  1. Well, maybe that's how it works!!! My husband had a vasectomy so there's no need for birth control pills for me but going off of them was hard because life was much worse after, for me. So now I have horrible periods AND low libido. Oh well... I did at one point try taking saw palmetto, an herb that is supposed to supplement testosterone, but...
  2. As someone who has been having to carefully order at restaurants for 6 years now due to various and *increasing* food limitations, I am used to it but tired of it, as well. That and my friends who will say, upon entering a place like the fair, "Oh wow, you can't eat anything here, can you?" I maintain a positive attitude about it all 90% of the time because...
  3. This is something I wonder about, too. I don't have the most raging sex drive in the world - makes me sad because I remember when I did... I'm going to be 34 this weekend and it seems sort of wrong to be approaching my "peak" and not care that much about it. I was on the pill for 13 years so I found this article of interest: Open Original Shared Link ...
  4. I suffer from low blood sugar from time to time, as well (am hypoglycemic). I was doing pretty well on rice and all the extra carbs I've been eating since going gluten-free but lately I'm having some trouble again. I'm forgetting words and having trouble typing - sure signs that sugar is getting to me. My blood tester is out of batteries so I haven't been...
  5. Isomalt, I believe, doesn't actually have barley in it (exception to the "malt" rule) but is a sugar alcohol, like xylitol, sorbitol, and malitol. All of them are guilty of causing diahrrea in suceptable individuals - in fact sorbitol (made of fruit sugar) is often in laxative remedies. They are all used by people on low carb diets as sugar replacements as...
  6. Thanks, Molly. That will keep me from looking for a while... I always feel like I'm shopping in one of those contests - "You have 10 mins to fill your cart" sort of thing when I'm there because we will have already gone to Trader Joes and likely someplace else and have frozen stuff in the ice chest in the car (for the 90 min drive home) so I always rush through...
  7. Thanks for the info. I actually got the gluten free product list off the web site and was happy for it but really wanted to try some good gluten free baked goods. Would also like to find some pizza crusts - would like to have the Amy's Rice Pizza but I can't eat tomatoes. On the whole I didn't find anything more gluten free at the Sacramento Whole Foods than...

    ARCHIVED Grrrr....

Oh yeah, that sets me on edge!!! What really gets me is the constant crinkling/crackling of packaged stuff like Little Debbies all my coworkers around me always get every day... that and "Oh this is so great! Oh that's right, you can't have it..." they don't really feel bad, you can tell by looking them in the eye (which I often do when I want to suddenly...
  9. I agree. We were frazzled when we got there the other day but it was the first time I remembered to look for all the things I read about here. Next time I'll try to talk with someone - we always go at such a busy time. It's not the reason we go to Sacramento but it is a major inducement. Stephanie
  10. I have gone to my Sacramento WF three times now in the past 3 months (a 3 hour round trip) and have not found *any* of the bakehouse items. I was just there this past weekend. They have very few gluten-free items - no more, for example, than my local health food store. I keep hearing all these great things about them and they do have awesome food (love the...
  11. It sounds similar to muscle testing. My chiropractor for the past few months has done muscle testing on me to determine where he needs to work on my alignment (I injured my shoulder last January) and it was very effective. He told me that if I wanted, he could test me for foods as well by my putting a certain food in my mouth, then testing my muscle. This...
  12. I went to the fair this past weekend and there is *nothing* there I could eat, except drink the bottled water. It was a major bummer. I guess it's ok because it's all really terrible, overpriced food anyway but still annoying. I went home after and made myself a killer pizza on kinikinick pizza shell though! Oh yeah, another good thing about not eating...
  13. I really lucked out in that one month after going gluten-free, we tore out our kitchen and started over, so no hidden flour on the cabinets. Of course I didn't feel too lucky during the couple of months I had no kitchen to speak of and had to fend for myself... My husband will usually eat what I eat and is pretty nice about it but he leaves crumbs, too...
  14. I wanted to be six feet tall. Was a goal. I had a size 10 shoe at the end of 6th grade. Still wear size 10 shoes. I met a second cousin of mine about 10 years ago and she wears size 12, for some reason I was envious of this! Funny anyway, I guess there is no one way to look/be with gluten intolerance. Stephanie
  15. I haven't been officially diagnosed as Celiac but I am gluten intolerant and have had symptoms most of my life. BUT I am 5'10", have great teeth (no cavities) and as far as I know, no osteoperosis. Stephanie
  16. I use agave, also. It's very similar tasting to honey and has a lower glycemic index, which is why I like it. You use less of it, measure to measure, than sugar, and also you have to reduce you liquids in your recipe. I use it most these days when I make brownies, when I need sugar for my pizza crust, and on my yogurt. I think it's getting cheaper. At my...
  17. Well, then you probably read my comments about three weeks ago where I was totally falling apart. I hadn't been that depressed in 10 years and was so worried that mythological "bell jar" was decending on me, I was freaked out! Turned out it was a two day emotional breakdown due to a miniscule amount of gluten. I still can't believe any of it, looking back...
  18. You know, those ads make me crazy! Esp. the pepto bismol one where there's a person who has heartburn, a person who has diahrrea, a person who has gas, etc etc etc. Like it's cool to have these problems, which one are *you*, while they all do some kind of dance. And the pepcid and zantac bits, the RV driving around the country so they can distribute their...
  19. I have been fluctuating for the most part between 3 and 4 but this month has seen a few 2s. I hit 2 last night at dinner and have been wallowing on the low end of 2 ever since. I would say I was almost a 1 but I still have my sense of humor... so I can't yet be that bad. Stephanie
  20. I think that if anyone has any issues with anything *you* are eating, or any way of eating, as long as it isn't people or your cat or something like that, they have no business saying anything. Period. It may not be in the Constitution but I tend to take the part about "the pursuit of happiness" (yeah, that's the Declaration of Independance, not the...
  21. Oh yeah, I'm familiar with detoxing too fast... I think that's the problem with the liver flushes I was doing. Too extreme for me. I have considered some of the Dr. Shultz cleanses but I think one I was most interested in contains capsacian/red pepper/cayenne. I can't take that - I get really sick. But the liver product sounds really good. Sounds like...
  22. I had problems going off the pill - I tried a couple of times but would have really strong PMS reactions as a result. I was on it for 13 years. I did have cramping issues while on it, and what felt like a cyst at times. After going off of it, all this intensified and my period got a lot heavier. But my accupunctrist recommended I read "What Your Doctor Won...
  23. Cleveland Bob - What kind of liver/gallbladder flush are you doing? I have done four and each one has been increasingly more traumatic so I think I'm done with those. I did get gunk out but I paid prices for it. I have been taking supplements for liver health and that seems to help - I wish I could find something in between the extremes on this one. My...
  24. Hi Turtle - I've done some colon cleanses - mainly fiber (psylliam) or others on a regular basis. I have also done the P&B shakes - psylliam and bentonite (that's a kind of clay) - but not seen much come of it, other than being really regular. I have not tried colonics - can't cross that bridge - but I have tried enemas - I used to get severe...
  25. Oh yeah, corn syrup is the kiss of death to me. Gives me hangovers of the sort I haven't experienced since early on in college. I had always thought it was just the crazy amount of sugar in it (I'm hypoglycemic) but I now wonder if it's the corn part... Stephanie
