  1. Tonight we had salad with homemade ranch, fauxtatos (mashed cauliflower chock-full of butter), baked asparagus, and baked salmon with dill. I should have taken a picture.
  2. Hi, I started copying all our blog posts here so that when one was particularly relevant to a thread, I'd be able to link to it rather than basically rewrite the whole thing out in the thread. This was a hassle, since I had to make sure to strip out product links and links back to my blog for each post, plus change it all to bbcode from HTML, but it seemed...
  3. You were right. She totally cheated. I'm not that kind of girl (I have a will of steel and overblown sense of personal pride when I say I'm going to do something) and was totally surprised when she started doing things like packing lunches for the kids rather than making them do it so she wouldn't be "late to work." A big part of the problem was that she...
  4. Definitely get him tested for celiac, diabetes and thyroid issues. Oh, and one kind of anecdotal thing about the bathroom visits - I always needed to pee a lot, and have always had problems regulating blood sugar, but diabetes screening came back negative. Once we switched to the GAPS diet I stopped needing to pee all the time and I don't have those big blood...
  5. Hi! Either way it does sound like once you get your testing done you'll want to eliminate gluten. It can be daunting to learn a new way to eat, but once you do you will feel so much better that stuff is likely not to even sound good to you any more. I've written a post about how to eliminate gluten from your home. The site linked from my profile also has...
  6. I wanted to add something cute - a couple weeks ago the kids' friends came over. The kids all came in for snacks after playing outside. My kids were sitting at the table. Their friends looked in their bags, then went and sat on the step outside to eat. I invited them in, and they said - oh, we'll finish out here - we have graham crackers! Even kids can be...
  7. We take a cloth and wash with soap and water, then put that cloth in the laundry and repeat with another one. A remote is tricky because of all the crevices. I'd not let people touch it with gluten-y hands. When people eat gluten in our house (*rare* because we let people know ahead to please not bring it), we put paper towels down in the area, only eat at...
  8. As for the book, do you mean the GAPS book? We have read it and are using the diet and it does NOT say that celiac people should EVER start eating gluten again! Here are a few facts about GAPS: The GAPS diet is not directed specifically for celiac people. GAPS stands for Gut and Psychology Sydrome and is all about the way a damaged gut impacts mental...
  9. My son is dealing with the same kind of thing from other kids at camps. I haven't figured out how to make him feel better about it when someone is really insistent. Fortunately, like your daughter, he is fully committed to the diet and would rather go hungry than accidentally get glutened! We NEVER eat food prepared outside of our own kitchen (or one of...
  10. It sounds like there is something going on besides celiac disease, to me. Did they run a celiac panel to see if that is part of her problem? That said, I don't see how gluten could *help* the situation. You say being gluten-free has not caused a difference for you - I wonder if you are truly gluten-free? I have a guide on my blog for being 100% gluten...
  11. Left over roast beef with beet greens from the garden. So good!
  12. Hi there, There is a chance you will see results that quickly just avoiding gluten, but for many people it takes longer. Also, you need to really, truly avoid gluten! That means even trace amounts. As gluten has been out of your diet a while, you will probably become more aware of it when you get "glutened." Here is a post on my blog which explains how...
  13. Thanks for checking out my blog! It's actually easier to have us *all* on the diet than having to feed everyone something special. If only we could all go on an ice cream diet!!! As for the drama, yeah, that is really annoying. The public announcement and offers to help without any follow through are so obnoxious. I'd be pissed, too. In the long term...
  14. I'm glad you're feeling better about it and keeping it all in perspective. Your daughter sounds like a delight A bit more info on the screenings: The bone age test is just a wrist X-ray. Then they compare it to charts (in an actual book, I could barely believe it!) that show typical bone development. The radiologist put her at around 10, but the endocrinologist...
  15. My partner, Kelsy, wrote this, not me! As Joy and I settled into bed last night at midnight(!), I suddenly jolted awake. We forgot to do the chores! Our poor bunnies were hungry and thirsty and, after losing a chicken to a raccoon last week, we were definitely not leaving the coop open all night. Up we got, me in my bathrobe and Joy in some clothes she...
  16. I don't know if it's gluten - I've noticed that since being gluten-free I stutter horribly when I'm flustered. I didn't used to do that. Whenever I get migraine auras I get aphasia (saying the wrong word). The first time I noticed it I was doing times tables with the kids. I was reading the flash cards to them. I'd think I said the right word, but I'd...
  17. The kids scrambled eggs with beet greens. I had leftover chicken & veggie soup.
  18. We do like GlutenFreeManna. It's guaranteed safe and super easy.
  19. Yes, I am currently on this diet (so are my partner, two kids, and their dad). We have been doing it since the beginning of February. We took a couple months to get through the intro diet. Dairy, nuts and eggs do not get introduced right away on this diet. The reasons they are problems for you will make a difference in whether you'll b able to introduce...
  20. Whew! It's only Day 1 and I'm exhausted. First thing this morning, I ran out to Open Original Shared Link to pick up the soy free/corn free chicken food I ordered. Arriving home around noon and seeing Joy and the kids hard at work cleaning up the kids' rooms, I knew it was up to me to make lunch! I had thrown a chicken in the crockpot (recipe forthcoming...
  21. I think you might feel better if you ate more than one meal a day. What are the reasons you only eat one meal? When you say you want real food, what kind of things are you missing? You say you haven't improved in 2 years, and that the dr said you were very bad off 2 years ago. You also mention your family is unsupportive. That brought a few thoughts...
  22. I don't have SIBO but wanted to put it out there that GAPS might be looking into for you. The whole point of the diet is to starve out the bad critters in your gut and to introduce the good guys, restoring your gut flora balance. If you've got the good guys in the wrong part of your digestive tract I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I have a couple...
  23. Where did you get the bacon? Was it sliced in a deli? If so the shared equipment could have been a problem.
  24. That sounds good to me! Anyway, if you want ideas, all the recipes posted on my blog (linked from my profile) are grain free, soy free, and corn free. We're also free of all starchy vegetables and packaged ingredients.
  25. Regular table salt has dextrose added to stabilize the iodine, which is an issue if you are avoiding corn. It can have flow agents added as well. We use celtic salt.
