  1. I bought some Applegate dogs for my mother when she was here visiting. I had one. Not bad--except I found them rather salty. Could just be my taste buds, though. She liked them a lot. I have wrapped and baked them in CHEBE dough (no grains in that mix, just tap starch) --as JNBUNNIE suggested--and Hubs liked them.
  2. Barty, I am sorry you are still feeling lousy. I have to agree that getting sicker my the minute does not seem like a continuation of a glutening. Even my bad bout --and we got "hit" at the same time--has cleared up. Sounds like it could be a bad bug causing the D and Bunz is right...use some Immodium to get it to calm down and drink a lot of fluids. I...
  3. Amen to all that, girl! Absolutely true, true, true. They do not call us warrior princesses for nothing. I do know what you mean about doing those things again that I had lost. Driving, comprehending, dancing, cooking, gardening, traveling.... all coming back to me now. Singing at the top of my lungs too! My hubs has his wife back. whoohoo! I...
  4. I referred to gluten as a "she", but I am not sure why. Maybe I was thinking along on the lines of a bulldozing loudmouth mother- in- law type? Vulgar, loud and pushy, barging in on you when you are not expecting her (and had planned on a quiet weekend), bullying you and giving you a migraine and making you ill-tempered and ready to swan dive off a cliff...
  5. Patti and I posted simultaneously. 34 bags? holymotherofpearl. That's a lot of work. Good for you! I'm with you guys. Chebe pizza with bacon, fresh tomatoes, fresh julienned basil, 3 cheeses (mozz, shaved parm and smoked provolone) and carmelized onions. ***I should add: This pizza is for the hubs only. I have gone wholefoods/paleo for...
  6. Just to put this in perspective a little? As careful as I am (I mean I conduct the Spanish Inquisition when I go out ), I was glutened at a restaurant on Sunday, August 19. What's today? Sept. 7. Only today have I begun to feel the "level of normalcy" that it took me over 21 months to achieve. Some people underestimate what a speck of...
  7. I have heard about this same thing when taking the "pearls" and I am not sure why that happens. Maybe they are very potent?? When I first started out, I used probiotics in powder form and used half a dose and worked my way up, as suggested by the company's owner. I had virtually no detectable beneficial bacteria in my gut upon testing and I had to rebuild...
  8. I agree with Patti--whole, plain, simple foods. I gave up dairy, soy, high acidic foods --like coffee and juices (had no choice, my GI tract was raw) -- for the first 10 months. By 18 months, I got most back. Hope you feel better soon, Ron. Most of us can really relate to your struggles here.
  9. That is perplexing, Ron and I am not sure what to make of it. No shared colanders or toasters, so that's not it. Did you have your vitamin levels checked? perhaps it is not the food at all but a deficiency? Low folate had me pretty goofy and extremely tired.
  10. I love travel brochures!! Hubs got me a NOOK last Christmas, but I do not like it. I like the FEEL and SMELL of books. I keep trying to turn the top right corner of the NOOK ---as if it's a "page" (old habits?) But our bookshelves are overflowing !! and there are neat piles of books on the floor right now. hey, some women like shoes......
  11. oh yes, I was advised to eat MORE WHOLE GRAINS back in 2009 for "IBS" and "Adrenal fatigue" and I loaded up on whole wheat, rye, barley, oats....and as my hair fell out, my brain stopped working, my muscles lost their tone and mass and I dropped 90 lbs. I thought "well, this can't be right....." Keep us posted!
  12. Ron, I understand your frustration, I really do. Allergen-specific IgE antibody tests are usually ordered when a person has signs or symptoms that suggest an allergy to one or more substances. Signs and symptoms may include: Hives Dermatitis Eczema Red itchy eyes Coughing, nasal congestion, sneezing Asthma Itching...
  13. I am so glad you saw this and posted, K (I was just going to PM you and ask if you'd pipe in (you must be psychotic psychic)---because when I said: "Lots of members on here co-exist just fine with gluten eaters" you are one of the ones I was talking about.
  14. Make your home gluten free. Serve everyone the same delicious wholesome foods that you eat. Tell "them take it or leave it"? My husband went gluten-free with me (I did not ask) after he saw how easily cross-contamination can occur and how deathly ill celiac made me. He chose to put my health first over everything else. He learned how to read...
  15. I suggest you take PROBIOTICS after strong doses of antibiotics to replenish the beneficial bacteria in your gut. Doctors are quick to prescribe the anti-Bs for "possible" anything (I mean, did he even test you or just guess??) but they fail to suggest the PRO-Bs and it can wreak havoc in your GI tract. Been there/done that. Just a suggestion. Hope...
  16. Conclusion: Patients with celiac disease are not followed up consistently. Follow-up examinations often are inadequate and do not follow AGA recommendations. Improving follow-up strategies for patients with celiac disease could improve management of this disease. Pardon my sarcasm, but gosh, ya think? The question is, WILL ANYONE IN THE MEDICAL...
  17. How sweet. Happy Anniversary, Hon!! Cheers! We had BLTs ( we only have a few tomatoes left on the plants, but they are still yummy) on Against the Grain baguettes. Hubs had fresh corn from the nearby farm. I had some giardiniera on the side. I was still full from lunch.
  18. Yes. I had all those symptoms you listed. And your symptoms, plus your Dad being a celiac? Speaks volumes. Do not blame yourself for "not paying attention"---your dad's doctor should have told his family to be tested immediately. This is a genetic, hereditary disease. I think you are one of us, hon. Welcome!... and just know this---you are going to...
  19. You said: "I can't believe this is how normal people live" NewNicole, this is YOUR new "normal"!! This is what healing feels like. This is how a body works as it is designed. (I get this part BIG time --because I am starting to feel it myself after a life time of wondering what "normal" felt like, too) Congrats, honey!! So...
  20. This is a very interesting study. Thanks for sharing it with us. I think it holds many truths ---as I most often hear celiacs say they "do not want to bother anyone" with their special dietary needs, so they stay home instead. I just spoke with someone who was glutened because he did not want to cause a fuss by asking too many questions of the server...
  21. I'm not a big sci-fi fan, (sorry all those who are, just not my thing) yet I love to watch Fringe. And by romance do you mean the ones with a Fabio type on the cover, his long hair blowing back as he holds the woman almost upside down in an impossible back stretch with her tatas falling out romance? or Wuthering Heights ill-fated wanna cut your wrists...
  22. I read your description of symptoms and I am sure that fainting sensation was scary. (I can relate) And I am glad you feel better off gluten. That is usually an indicator of a gluten sensitivity of some level. However, your doctor's advice puzzles me. Why didn't he just do a celiac blood panel while you were still consuming gluten? The longer you are...
  23. I once read a "Constitutional Law" book because it was there and I was wide awake. Too lazy to go downstairs and I wondered if I would understand it. I did, but it bored me to tears and I fell asleep shortly thereafter. The shampoo bottle was more interesting. Needless to say, I turned down my law school acceptance.
  24. No worries, hon--it's in the past. Happy to see you feeling better. and the Twain quote--is PURRfect. Best wishes to you!
