  1. Happy to see you enjoying your time off. When I clicked on the camera link, I thought I was going to see your pics.
  2. YAAAY!! It's the little things that make us so happy, right?
  3. yowzers, that's VERY descriptive, Bunz....blood? I was going for "dirty socks"... either way...blech, it is.
  4. I have read this: "Scientists are exploring the possibility of using enzymes as a celiac disease treatment. In May 2011, Alvine Pharmaceuticals was awarded four patents for gluten-specific proteases (enzymes). Alvine's lead potential product, ALV003, is a mixture of two enzymes that may be able to break down gluten into fragments too small to cause...
  5. Sorry, but as far as I know, there is no known "advance protective shield" against gluten CC for a celiac. These are digestive enzymes, that is all. You can take digestive enzymes made by any company before a meal and get the same result. Will they help you "digest" gluten? Sure! Will they "stop the effects" of gluten (i.e. inflammation and the autoimmune...
  6. Just trying to sort it out with you and from your replies, it would seem as if you have been exposed to several sources of CC---as we all do, in our every day lives--so, take communion and skip the wine, is all I can offer. From all you have told me, I am guessing you are possibly OVERDOING it PHYSICALLY because you are so excited that you feel better...
  7. Personally, I do not like bean flours either...and maybe that is what you taste?
  8. yet, you are quite possibly the youngest thinking one of us all.
  9. He made them, you handled them and waited until you got home to wash your hands? My guess is during that time, you probably touched your face approximately 20 times and did not even realize it. Did your son eat those too? Did he give you hugs and kisses? CC happens so easily. If you are gluten-free, your home is gluten-free and everything else...
  10. Think about it. If others who took in the gluteny hosts sip from the shared cup, then you do, what can happen? Sit up front and ask the priest to let you take the communion wine FIRST or refrain from it altogether. And secondly, c'mon now, sweets, we have discussed this, but I will tell you again ....healing takes time, often 6 months to 2 years...
  11. I agree ---and I would recommend avoiding kefir when newly diagnosed IMHO. It's really hard on a damaged gut, despite the healing nature of it. I figured it would be a FAB idea for me, too.... but, nope. ( your story brought back a "fond" memory. It lasted about 3 minutes in me before causing terrible cramping and it took about 10 more minutes...
  12. yep, well, at your advanced age, Bunz that razor sharp quick wit starts to go and soon, you're out of ammo.....
  13. you're adorable.
  14. You got that right, sister!
  15. I haven't seen any older folks pipe in yet. (we're the young'ns ....right?? ) When I hit 40, I decided to start counting backwards, so.... I'm 25.
  16. She always says "OMYGAWD!! I am soooo fulll!!"" and I always reply, "whew, that's a relief. I was aiming for that!!" and she laughs!! Tonight's dinner: The few remaining "encores" --as that cake & whipped cream? WENT HOME WITH HER!
  17. I dunno....mine follows me everywhere I go, too!
  18. Hubs' sweet Aunt was here for dinner yesterday (hence the late post) but she is so easy to cook for and I LOVE having her here. Can you imagine an 84- year- old who will happily eat ANYTHING you give her (and who loves her Manhattans? ). She is such a fun gal! She feasted on: Shrimp cocktail Tapenade and garlic toasts artichoke and spinach...
  19. OMG, tell me about it! I have gained 38 lbs. since DX! 38. My doc says "it's fine. You were thin and malnourished" blah blah blah".. I went down 90-95 lbs. but I was also overweight to start. When I bottomed out, I was 122. Looked like a prison camp victim. Still looked yucky at 130. 135. 140...okay, not bad. 145...okay, much better...
  20. me too! Evil temptresses
  21. I really never discussed it much with him after we saw the test results. To be honest, his first priority was to get me straightened out. I had many deficiencies and he only ordered the genetic tests as part of the full follow up diagnostic package on me. I requested them because my Dad had suffered some strange & horrible gastro symptoms and had...
  22. We'll probably still worry, but please be safe!
  23. Yes!!...and the one I have as well. DQ2.2 DQ2.2 is shorthand for the DQ α2β2 heterodimeric isoform. The isoform is encoded almost exclusively by the DQA1*0201:DQB1*0202 haplotype. The haplotype is linked to DR7. A small percentage of coeliac disease are associated with this haplotype, and some disease causing gliadins are presented by DQ2.2. The haplotype i...
  24. "views" ...means the number of people who read this post and this site(while surfing the internet)...not necessarily members who are "ignoring you and not responding", okay? Those "numbers of views" mean nothing --in terms of people "unwilling to respond"... so, don't take it personally. I have Double HLA- DQ2 (I am a 2.2, according to my genetic...
  25. I agree with JERSEY ANGEL who said: "To dismiss the matter simply because of race does not make sense to me--if a formal diagnosis is important to you, then by all means tell the doctor you want the testing. He/she works for you and your symptoms mean something is amiss." (I would have said almost the exact same thing, but since she said it so eloquently...
