The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes! and on the opposite side of the box is one of my favorite all-time quotes : "When the gods want to punish us, they answer our prayers."--Oscar Wilde and I always add: I prayed for patience. I got Celiac. -
ARCHIVED Genetic Test Results........
IrishHeart replied to roxieb73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, and my doctor told me of a man who had negative blood, neither gene, no celiac in the family and total villous atrophy upon biopsy, which he did based on symptoms. Wise doc. -
ARCHIVED Genetic Test Results........
IrishHeart replied to roxieb73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Genetic testing used to be used as a more of an exclusionary test, not as a diagnostic tool. If someone had typical symptoms, but was negative on both blood and biopsy and did NOT have either DQ2 or DQ8, celiac was ruled out. -

Agreed. There is so much wrong in the article , apparently, we needed so many proofreaders to sort it all out. -

ARCHIVED What Do You Think Would Help Me In The Morning, Kind Of Gross?
IrishHeart replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Super Sensitive People
Not gross- just a fact of life. Do you mean D?? or firm BMs ??. Because those are two different issues. Do you take probiotics? Your system may be trying to balance. (took me a while, but I used probiotics to speed things along) -
ARCHIVED Would Anyone Recommend Homeopath Testing?
IrishHeart replied to Kirstie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
oh hon, I understand your frustration with feeling so ill (that was me for many years) and we want to help. I am going to agree with Vincent and Karen and suggest you are still healing and it may be too soon to tell if you still have some other intolerances. Have the testing done that Karen suggests to check for anemia or other deficiencies. I... -
ARCHIVED Would Anyone Recommend Homeopath Testing?
IrishHeart replied to Kirstie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It was unclear, hon-- and we all thought you were seeking a celiac DX from the way you phrased it. Thanks for coming back on and explaining what you meant. -
ARCHIVED Would Anyone Recommend Homeopath Testing?
IrishHeart replied to Kirstie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The original poster just came back on and clarified that SHE made a mistake in stating what she was looking for. If you read what she wrote originally, all of us thought she was seeking a celiac DX through homeopathy or allergy testing without consuming gluten. We are just trying to help. No need to be unkind. -
ARCHIVED Would Anyone Recommend Homeopath Testing?
IrishHeart replied to Kirstie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
One more time. Celiac Disease is not diagnosed via allergy testing or homeopathy or by food in vials or any other means. I'm sorry, but I AM answering her question --which was how can she be diagnosed for celiac without having to ingest gluten again because it makes her feel so bad. The answer is: She can't. (see Skylark's post) The major... -
I am sensitive to trace gluten and do not use anything from facilities with "shared lines" or "also produced in a facility with" wheat. Many people do fine with these, but I do not. Just me. That said, I do some use Certified G F products and and I have no problems at all. I order dried fruits, nuts, seeds, flours, quinoa, etc. from nuts...

ARCHIVED Would Anyone Recommend Homeopath Testing?
IrishHeart replied to Kirstie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have no idea how that is possible, since celiac is not an allergy. It is an autoimmune disease and is not diagnosed by allergy testing, which is done by skin prick testing. Allergies are IgE -mediated. These are VERY different things. -
It's going to be tough if you cannot eat ANYTHING from a package. I was going to suggest make your own granola or trail mixes, like I do, but you're saying "nothing from a package". Amaranth, grains, seeds, dried fruits, etc. have to come wrapped in something. Is that going to be okay?

I can't stop singing........Tiramisu! Tiramisu! still not quite sure what the ark has to do with it.. maybe that's supposed to be all of us??

Can you make a granola mix for yourself? Do you tolerate ANY thing from a package, like certified oats, quinoa, dried fruits, pumpkin seeds? If I know what you can do, maybe I can help more.
-
Oh, just what this group needs, more wine. Wine makes everyone think they can sing and dance and whip up a tiramisu at 4 in the morning .....
-
oh man, wouldn't it be so cool if you met a GIRL named Tiramisu?

The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Take it slow at first--with the eating, I mean. None of us ate like this right after DX. I could hardly choke down rice and boiled chicken. As for substitutions, tell us what you need and we can help. Do you mean things like bread crumbs in meatloaf or meatballs? Subs for fried chicken? Eggs? dairy? that sort of thing? The "to taste" means... -

M, Women who "behave" never have any fun. I like misbehaving. STUFFED PEPPERS tonight Mixed greens salad with goat cheese, toasted pecans, roasted pears and champagne vinaigrette Blueberries and nectarines are in and they are fantastic. I am resisting making them into a galette. LOVE2TRAVEL is whispering "Go on, why don't you... -
