  1. Probably! Also, ridges are a sign of anemia. I had beautiful nails until a few years ago when I became very ill and my nails developed long, vertical ridges and splits. I hope that will resolve in time. Some are better and they are growing stronger again. I see it is listed as a celiac symptom in Recognizing Celiac Disease by Cleo J. Libonati: ...
  2. Your link takes me to an article written in Portuguese. Fortunately, my computer translates languages into English for me.
  3. Holy sh*t. literally. 12 pieces of bread a day? Mother Mary, within a few days, I would be sitting in a wheelchair in a mental health facility, my wig all askew, insane with nerve and bone pain and dumber than a haddock, wondering when Howard Hughes was coming to pick me up for our date and if he will mind if my giant purple bunny comes with...
  4. Not my fav either. I only posted it at Sora's request. Dancing, however, is my second fav activity/skill.
  5. and they tease ME for long posts! (just kidding, hon) and just to complicate things, shortness of breath can also come from anemia. I was terribly SOB while quite ill with celiac. It's gone now that multiple anemias were treated (iron def, B-12 and folate)
  6. Oh baby, are you in for a treat!!...dance yerself into my kitchen and grab a fork, you tiramisu virgin, you.
  7. aw bunnie. I feel your loss right here in my heart. Sorry, hunny. and oh boy! can I relate to the "Daaaddy? can I have...." and it was mine. Except for my Mom, the NO! monster who got in the way. Otherwise, I would have had 18 puppies, 16 kitties, 37 bunnies, a pony and a Corvette when I was a teenager. and, P>S> your Mom...
  8. Your parents surely do have gluten-related symptoms, hon. Thanks for your kind words about my Daddy, Dani. He truly was an amazing father and yes, he said his life was full because he had me. I am his only biological child, but he raised my older half sister and brother like his own and loved them just as much. His death sparked this thing in me for...
  9. Hon, I am saying the same thing! He IS wise to look for those other things that "run in the family". My doc tested me for Crohn's, h.pylori, and other AI diseases because they run in the family. I am not saying don't have the tests. On the contrary, I think you SHOULD. But, saying there is "no family history" just does not apply. It just means no...
  10. I have to respond to the statement that a "negative blood test probably means you do not have celiac." This is not necessarily true. The tests can be falsely negative for a variety of reasons. Mine were, and I have Celiac. Your genetic test indicates you are positive for the HLA-DQ8 gene which is associated with celiac, but is not a diagnostic...
  11. Well, I was going to suggest something, but you guys beat me to it.

    ARCHIVED Doctor In Oklahoma City?

Hey guys, just a thought. I am in NYS but I saw this thread and I know if you call the nearest Celiac Support Group and ask them--they usually have a good celiac-savvy GI doc on their advisory board. this info may be outdated (I found it here on c.com) but there may be forwarding info. Oklahoma Norman - Resource Contact: Kate Martin Norman...
  13. AHA!! Now,I'm all set. Here's my breakfast shift partner! I'll take the pastries and breads, sweetie! and Lawd knows, I've got the chit-chat. I'll be sunning myself in the afternoon and joining you all for wine later, too. Okay, we have the plan...who has the $$$$$$$$$ and the place?
  14. That's what printers are for. Print that puppy off. Make a shopping list. EAT! No head hanging necessary, kiddo. You are absorbing SOMETHING from the minute you go gluten-free. And as much as I like daiquiris, too....BOOZE is not the best idea in a gut that is still raw. You need nourishment, kiddo. EAT!! Said with all the love in the world...
  15. That works, honey!! I KNEW I'd get the breakfast shift anyway.
  16. I had a Dad who was my best friend. He felt I could do no wrong and loved me unconditionally. He had anemia, required frequent blood transfusions, had horrific ITCHING, h.Pylori and a "bad gut" for as long as I can recall, needed a heart valve transplant and finally developed kidney disease, requiring dialysis that could not save him. Sound like anything...
  17. Sweetie, if something has dairy it it, it has to be labeled: CONTAINS MILK. That's the beauty and blessing of food labeling laws. Okay, now--you can't find yourself left with just a pitcher of yummy drinks and a head of lettuce. Time to get some supplies. Did you read the NEWBIE 101 thread I put together? I humbly submit, it may just help you get started...
  18. I know you are just joking, but you can eat very well dairy and gluten free. Jules Shepherd makes a living out of it. I did it for 10 months. http://www.julesglutenfree.com/ But as a long as you're pouring, c'mon girl, hand me a daiquiri.
  19. This is where we need LOVE2TRAVEL---she has the place in Croatia!!!!
  20. Now see, this is the problem....ALL of you will want the afternoon wine hour shift and I'll be stuck with the breakfast shift. I want WINE TOO!!!!!!
  21. Digest Gold by Enzymedica Custom Probiotics (google it--he's in CA) I suggest the multi-strain blend, but he will talk with you on the phone. He's well versed in celiac. When I was Dxed, I had no detectable good gut bacteria when I was tested--which my doc says is just "impossible" ---and I used this product to replenish and it set my gut straight...
  22. oh, gosh, sorry K, if it was of little help. I was just relaying what a native Californian told me via email. Good thing Janet saw this!
  23. I have to echo Peter's thoughts. I did not resolve most symptoms until 9 or 10 months into the diet. The light-headedness and blood sugar dips and spikes finally normalized in the last few months. (16 months) My doc was concerned about it because my sister is a type 1 diabetic. Vertigo took a while to resolve, but it did. It's an awful feeling, isn...
  24. A four- hour fasting test --when she says she gets light-headed after only two hours without food--is going to make her feel pretty lousy, I would think. I had glucose monitoring tests done several times and I felt really sick and faint during the whole thing after drinking the stuff and I was being supervised in a lab setting. Be careful with doing...
