  1. I have to say that I read that report when it came out and I am a bit skeptical. The report uses words like "may contain" and "can". There was no follow up and I did not see a sudden recall of brown rice products or infant formulas. So, how can we really know?
  2.
  3. yes, I do!! Thanks for the tip, Bun. I'll do that next time! I use the Chebe mixes sometimes and I love the ATG stuff, so Thankyew veddy much, Ma'am!!! Last time, I made that white pesto pizza and topped it with all the vegs left in the fridge, (roasted peppers, shallots, asparagus tips, portabellas) and it was crazy good.
  4. T H and WOODNEWT Your thoughts certainly sum up the "wild adventures of being a celiac". Individuals have different recovery times and different "guts" and health situations and we need to choose what works best for our own bodies.
  5. go ahead, I'll tell them YOU started it
  6. Great point, Sky!! I forgot to mention that I take supps that include these ingredients, too and EFAs. I also take amino acids. Works well to help replenish!
  7. Maybe not, but he is a celiac, right? and you said you have diabetes and chronic pain and well, he got it from someone. I do want not to highjack Dani's thread here, (or I will have to give myself a warning ) so if you want to talk about this more, give me a shout.
  8. See, hon--I told you this would get easier! And you're being schooled by some real masters here!! It's like going to the CIA (Culinary Institute of America) for free! (or the Canadian equivalent) Glad to see you're doing better. and NO croutons!! How did your consomme turn out?
  9. I have to ask...have you gone off gluten yourself to see if it helps? I know your wee one is gluten-free, but maybe it would help you? I have met many people with so-called fibromyalgia who have NO pain off gluten. They say "thanks, it's a miracle!" Nope, it's just a reduction of inflammation, but you're welcome. I went from a "just kill me now" level...
  10. EatMeat4good has said it all so beautifully, so I cannot add much more. I had all of these symptoms you describe develop in me, too --a few years ago when I became very ill from celiac and the malabsorption, but after 18 months gluten-free, they have vanished and only reappear when glutened by even trace CC. I hate these feelings more than the other awful...
  11. Dani, girl!!! That may be the quote of the week!no, Month, no wait--year! Well said! You're going to be all right, hon. You're on your way now.
  12. Well, some of us are a tad "mother-hennish" and tend to go overboard with the advice. (ok, that's usually me doing that. Guilty.) So, did we forget anything? Just holler. (just use your inside voice, please.) and I have to say, for a newbie, wow you are remarkably flexible and taking this all in stride with good humor (I've seen some of your posts...
  13. It can bounce around, depending on if you were fasting when the blood was drawn. Mine was 5.3, 4.3, etc. back then. But now, it is always between 2.4 and 3.0 . If I have eaten, it is lower. If it is a fasting draw for my blood glucose, the TSH reading is lower. (I did not know that until my doc told me) I think you may have answered your own question...
  14. Check things like these below for WHEAT. As Karen said, they will be labeled. Candies French fries Gravies Imitation meat or seafood processed luncheon meats Salad dressings Sauces, including soy sauce Seasoned rice mixes Seasoned snack foods, such as potato and tortilla chips Self-basting poultry ...
  15. Nick wanted a safe list because he says his friends are trying to cook for him. This is tricky business, Nick. Do you have your own cookware, utensils, colander, cutting board? They need to use THOSE if they prepare the ingredients. We can tell you safe ingredients, but then, the prep part could "undo" all that with CC. Karen turned me onto the...
  16. I hear you. A soup can was heavy for me 2 years ago and walking the length of my driveway left me gasping for breath. The treadmill at the gym? well, I made the 2 miles, yes, but it took me 45 minutes and I was in pain the entire time, my legs, feet, back burning and numb and when I slipped and almost flew off it, hubs said it was time to stop. No more swimming...
  17. I have to chime in here. I "pushed through it" for the 3 years I was unDXed and it made my pain level worse. I developed neuropathy and parasthesia and did significant damage to my muscles, tendons, joints and ligaments. All because doctors, PTs and chiropractors alike chastised me for not doing more. I had major muscle mass loss and bone pain, but no one...
  18. /celiac-disease/forbidden-gluten-food-list-unsafe-ingredients-r182/ Nick, at the top of every section, there is a FAQ section that you may find helpful! the safe foods list is there, too. Also, check this out: It's in this thread too and a bunch of other ideas that may help. That way, I do not have to bore everyone again with my lengthy...
  19. Not sure what possessed me since it was beautifully warm today, but I made a Burgundy Beef Stew Brazilian cheese rolls and the neighboring farm has Fresh Strawberries --yum Hubs was golfing and I was cleaning the house all day long (oh, all right, I was NOT, I was skyping with people in California and Hawaii and sunning myself on a lounge...
  20. I was wondering how the luau went?
  21. Yes, and it takes more than Gold eggs anyway to buy my favor. Hon, Gee EFF in Dee Cee is trying to make you feel better and he is very good at it. He's funny and empathetic. I know this is a frustrating disease sometimes and I know you know better than to intentionally gluten yourself again, so I won't scold you. But now you have found us...
  22. You do not need new dishes. I did not see that in her list. In the NEWBIE 101 thread, I put a link to what to do about replacing household items. Toaster, wooden spoons and cutting boards, scratched teflon, wooden rolling pins, plastic strainers, pizza stones. Anything POROUS. Don't waste all your grocery money on just gluten-free products...
  23. K, I agree--the calories, the carbs, the fiber...OUCH!!. My gut hurts just thinking about it. although, truth be told, the "IH that was " COULD devour an entire homemade warm French baguette slathered in Kerry Gold Irish Butter back in the day....(fat) buTT, she also wore a size 20 pants at one point.
  24. Thanks,Bartfull. Right back atcha!! (hugs)
  25. No, you made good points! and it could be a combo of both. Her TSH is elevated.
