ARCHIVED Things People Say To Celiacs
IrishHeart replied to researchmomma's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
oh Snap! Great comeback! Not rude--perhaps a lesson in civility he sorely needed. Good for you!! I know some people "feel sorry" for me and my gluten-free life--but the irony is--my doc says our diet is healthier than anyone else's. I feel sorry for the ones who SHOULD be gluten-free but won't do it (like my family and some friends). Someday... -

Quick (sarcastic) reply is....."Hell yes, aren't YOU!!??" and then look at them with a tsk, tsk! and a --- as if they are sooooo hopelessly "ten minutes ago" -
ARCHIVED Things People Say To Celiacs

Well, he is unusually progressive thinking. For a while, they dragged their collective feet about that, saying the recipe --the amount of gluten in it--could not be tampered with for religious reasons. I read some nuns were busy working on a recipe with low levels of gluten. Maybe it has come to pass. My first thought was "you darn well better think of... -

Hilarious and yet, frustratingly annoying as well Thanks for sharing, honey! Yes, I have heard similar queries about bread, only it was "WHOLE WHEAT is wrong, but other bread is okay, right?" another was: someone, smiling at me, all excited, holding up an ice cream sandwich and asking: "This is okay, right!? It's just ice cream!... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like Dr. House Detoxing From Vicodin :(
IrishHeart replied to Meggielynn13's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I carried LaraBars with me the first few months. And bananas and apples. Baggies of nuts from nutsonline (safe/ gluten-free) I could not each much at first, my GI tract was in flames and I had NO appetite. I made myself eat proteins--meat and chicken. You need protein, hon. You need WATER right now --so drink up! Probiotics to replenish your... -

oh you did, did you? You're right! I told ya, kiddo, I'm here for ya. To other members--she and I discovered we live pretty near each other! See, hon--they are telling you everything I told you in that email--about good fats and plain foods. It helps to hear it from lots of us, though!! You're going to be all right, it... -

Honey! (hugs) You are NOT lost and alone. You just feel like crap. To be sick with bronchitis on top of it makes it worse, I know. Many of us had gluten withdrawal symptoms and they will pass. Keep hydrated. I gave you that list of gluten-free comfort foods you CAN have -- so you can get through this hard time. Go to either of the two bakeries... -
ARCHIVED Rice Dream New Label "gluten Free"
IrishHeart replied to gffamily's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Barley is not an allergen. (I have no current personal experience drinking it myself. I tried it when first DXed and was very sick at the time, so I cannot say if it was from that or not) Some people report they can still react to that low level of gluten, so it is an individual choice. There is really no legal ground to "sue" over. -
ARCHIVED Thoughts On Gluten Challenge?
IrishHeart replied to jennynic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You got incredibly lucky with a knowledgeable doctor. DXing you on the spot like that--because he recognized DH--is amazing. I know many members on here who had DH and NO doctor knew what the heck it was, some even refusing to biopsy as they requested, just to rule it out. I was emaciated, nearly bald, weak from massive muscle mass loss, in crippling... -
ARCHIVED Surprise Mystery Glutening
IrishHeart replied to Poppi's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks, hon! She is pretty resourceful and has many animals and I think she has already found something else to use. I will ask her. She DOES hose herself down after feeding them, she reports. She has been raising various animals and birds for 35 years and never made a connection to the feed until she was gluten-free and of course, her system was clear... -
ARCHIVED Glutened! Who Was The Culprit?
IrishHeart replied to rabbit24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Your diet is missing fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish and nuts and eggs. You are losing weight, hon because you are not getting enough protein! If you are eating butter and using cheese on that pizza crust--you may have a dairy intolerance. There is so much going on it COULD be, rather than any "suspect" product. Eat plain foods... -

Oh hon, I am sorry you asked a question and no one answered you! What section did you post in? This subject is discussed often on here--animal feed, pet food, etc. See the SEARCH THIS FORUM VIA GOOGLE in the upper right corner Use that and a whole selection of similar threads will come up. I even responded in one of those threads... -

Turkey meatloaf with various herbs, braised shallots and brussel sprouts and garlicky smashed potatoes. I am on an elimination diet and it is getting old really fast. -
ARCHIVED Thoughts On Gluten Challenge?
IrishHeart replied to jennynic's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If I were to reintroduce gluten for 3 days, let alone 3 months to do a gluten challenge, I'd rather just shoot myself in the head right now. It would be easier. I can understand you want a "firm diagnosis", but in truth, the treatment is still going to be the same: no gluten. You feel better off gluten. Why undo all that? Can you really afford... -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Buckwheat And Other Grains?
IrishHeart replied to SGRhapsodos's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Probably wise! One of the many things I have learned about this disease process is....everyone is different! I can eat gluten-free oatmeal to my heart's content, but try and eat too much corn? ah, nope! And it does not mean we are not healing, hon---just "not there yet" Ask your doc about it, though, just to be sure. best wishes! -
Yes, that's the one I used as well. It produced a delicious rice milk. (I just did not use it fast enough as I was the only one using it.)

Good thing I re-read THAT post, since it really is my intenton to provide ACCURATE info. That number should be 2 million Sorry for the error. I was having a bad typo day ...and shame on me for poor proofreading. Carry on.

ARCHIVED Can Celiac's Have Pro-Biotics?
IrishHeart replied to GFSAHmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
They are an investment for sure, but the bottle will last for awhile. (I used them myself and think they are wonderful) The man is a chemist and very knowledgable. Give him a call, tell him about your child and that he has celiac and he will tell you how to dose. He sent me great info via email. Nice guy. -
ARCHIVED Questions
IrishHeart replied to AlanM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Everyone gave you excellent advice. I was going to say this: Positive is positive. Symptom resolution-- off gluten-- speaks volumes. Your "nutritionist" is grossly mistaken. And NCGI does cause extensive damage, despite what some literature says. If I were you, I would consider myself a celiac and then, see a proper gastroenterologist... -
I know what you mean. I did make rice milk once and it was a relatively easy recipe, but because you have to make such a big batch for all that prep to be worth it, I did not get through both bottles I produced fast enough- and it went rancid pretty fast. What a bummer--for all that work! Hope you find the coconut milk works for you, because...

ARCHIVED Can Celiac's Have Pro-Biotics?
IrishHeart replied to GFSAHmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Probiotics are necessary for balancing flora in celiac guts. Open Original Shared Link They are beneficial and may do him a world of good. I agree with Skylark--a full spectrum probiotic is better than just one strain as we have many in our bodies that need replenishing. I think Custom Probiotics makes one just for infants and children... -
It is a section for super sensitives to discuss things. And those of us who are super sensitive to lower levels of gluten answered you. Honestly. We just have differences of opinions about it Hopefully, you can find what you need to fit your milk needs. Best wishes, IH

I only heard of it when reading about amino acids months ago and how we celiacs are deficient in them and some trace elements and checked my vits, too! there it is. -
This is a spirited discussion indeed. Not necessarily a bad thing. Lots of intelligent folks on here. But you are correct--The query was: Does it bother you? and like all of these queries, some said no and some said yes. Guess she will have to decide what to do with it. Cheers all, IH
