  1. Ruth, You've got several threads going asking the same questions about the testing protocol and I think you are having a hard time deciding the best route. I completely understand. People with non-celiac gluten intolerance would also have a very hard time with a gluten challenge, so having to abandon that testing route does not mean you have celiac...
  2. I just did the best coffee spit straight across the room........thanks.
  3. naw! this is me, sweets, come on! laughter is healing. If I had not kept laughing, I'd be pushing up daisies right now..
  4. I think (and again, this is just my opinion) that some fast food places are just too busy to take special care. I was only in a macaroni grill about 4 times before DX (I am just not a huge fan of the place but I met people there for lunch dates) and honestly, they seem intent on serving all the bread, croutons and pasta with sauces they can. In a hurry...
  5. Awesome heat pads and an awesome MT/PT who knows how to make muscles feel better (after she beats me up) lol Pineapple, is not a veggie, You know this, young lady, but I'll cut you some slack because the weather situ is scary. Always, always have booze on hand for basement hiding. The only way I managed to get through the tornado that came through NY...
  6. I was not really suggesting that's what they do. All I said was "I would not go to a place....." I have been burned by places offering G F pasta and pizza, promising the public that they understand cc issues. I just think, IMO, that all that sliced bread, crumbs, salad croutons, and a very fast-paced kitchen output could make for a few mistakes....
  7. Made Ski's suggestion for the crock pot balsamic pork and sweet potato fries. Not doing well the past 4 days. Serious neck pain.... and headaches. erg long story, but through no one's fault, I was glutened at a place I have come to trust. Innocent mistake on the server's part and I forgave her. She was so upset, I felt so bad for her. Anyway, as per...
  8. I would not go to any place where the primary food offering is wheat filled pasta. Look at Find me Gluten Free for ideas. I post there frequently.
  9. This is not entirely true, however. Open Original Shared Link There is a blood test available to determine whether or not an at-risk individual carries the genes responsible for the development of celiac disease. These genes are located on the HLA-class II complex and are called DQ2 and DQ8. Each case of celiac disease has been found to show...
  10. Ruth, Why didn't your doctor order the genetic test for you in the first place? just curious because I think he should have, IMHO There are blood tests that your doctor can order. I paid out of pocket for the saliva test, but later, my GI doc insisted we go with the blood work genetic test. My insurance covered that test so i am not sure what it cost...
  11. tri-gal It was once suspected that I had ankylosing spondyloarthropy, based on my symptoms. (this was before my celiac diagnosis when I was in agonizing pain from the unDXed celiac disease). The rheumatologist, to his credit, ran the HLA-B27 test and told me that if I did not carry that gene, it was unlikely I had SA. It was negative. And I thanked the heavens...
  12. I agree with you that support from those who share a disease like fellow celiacs (or diabetics or those with MS, etc) is valuable, but make no mistake: None of us are doctors (except Jebby but even she would never give any of us medical advice because that just opens her up for all sorts of legal issues) and none of us are substitutes for a gastroenterologist...
  13. K Are you okay? watching the national news and the weather report sounds ominous. xxG
  14. Yep, we eat, we drink, we tell stories, we encourage, we chat. We're "having dinner" with friends. I'll be doing roasted chicken, risotto, roasted asparagus today. Ok, there may be some vodka involved but no creepy guys in undies. Well, none that I don't know anyway. Happy Sunday, peeps. SKI tell D I think he's da bomb. and nice...
  15. You know, I have to laugh at some of the comments on this thread. As usual, whenever rational responses are given, it's considered "aggressive.' I do not know how anyone can tell "tone of voice" from type written words anyway. (usually someone uses the "you're being aggressive and snarky card" when they simply do not like the answer. It's a passive...
  16. I just explained my odyssey towards obtaining a DX on another thread. I'll see if i can find it. I post often, so it may take me a second or two. lol I figured out it was celiac making me so ill for 3+ years and brought it back to my PCP doctor & former GI doctor, yes but I did not " diagnose myself", if that's what you're asking. And the gene...
  17. in many cases, that's exactly why they are used.
  18. lol Ski has a buttload of emails to read, I am thinking she'll be thinking holy crappers never shoulda gone off for the day. The HOA here would frown on Colonel Underpants for sure.... but since he is a veteran, I'd cut him some slack. I'd salute him if I were you. Perhaps he'll salute you back < Nothing wrong with walking outside in one...
  19. he's me..(symbolically) .celebrating my coming back from the walking dead ....only I let him do all the work. You can figure this out. Just stay the course. ROFLMFAO --that's what I use
  20. ...and here i thought you lived in a sleepy Kansas town. You actually live in Melrose Place. (and for the love of mike, I HOPE it's boxers too)
  21. ooh! ooh!....I think someday you should go outside and salute him. ( I know I would! ) yes, Florida people are very relaxed. I met a woman the other day wearing her bathing suit in the grocery store. (the beach is 5 miles away) honestly, she should not have been wearing a 2 piece bathing suit, period, but she was happy Jiggling herself throughout...
  22. lmao the trouble with reading too much of that STUFF is you become afraid of eating/drinking anything. We should live like my maternal Grandfather--he was 92 when he died. Except for a few cataracts and angina, the guy was fine. He ate what he wanted. period. he ate stuff like steaks, raw oysters, gobs of butter, cheese, heavy cream, ice cream every day...
  23. (1) but, the triggers of celiac are understood. Maybe you could read Dr. Fasano's new book. It has great info. (2) a theoretical possibility of a reversal of what? the symptoms? okay, but that's not theoretical, hon....it's a fact: symptoms reverse off gluten. Symptoms return ON gluten. Off--remission. On--resurgence. (3) celiac is an autoimmune disease...
