ARCHIVED I Like Our Doctor For Other Reasons And Don't Want To Switch....
IrishHeart replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
But, it's not a headline, it's not misleading and it's not "just most common" it's what the research says. . This is what the leading celiac researchers say: HLA DQ2 and HLA DQ8 are the genes associated with celiac disease. Read any valid source and this is what you will find. Open Original Shared Link My guess is you did the cheek swab... -
ARCHIVED My Histamine Journey
IrishHeart replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I don't anymore. I see no advantages in stressing. Never got me anywhere and it does not solve any problems. Complete waste of time worrying about things i cannot control. And the things I can? well, I find a way to control them. Now, if I could find a way to get the squirrels to stay off my bird feeders (without shooting them dead because I respect all... -
ARCHIVED My Histamine Journey

You do not need a book. Keep out all high hista foods for 4 weeks. if you have no symptoms, you system is clear. Trial one food at a time. Add in one high histamine food per week, for example, eat a bunch of shrimp or lobster for one day and see what happens, but no other high histamine foods. See what happens. maintain a low histamine diet... -
ARCHIVED Positive Genetic Test Plus Symptoms- Does That Equal Celiac?
IrishHeart replied to cindyb1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just carrying the gene is not a diagnosis, I am afraid. Many people carry the genes for celiac . In fact, "up to one third of the U.S. population has the genes for celiac disease, but it is thought that only 1-4% of them will actually develop the disease at some point in their lifetimes. This means that people with DQ2 or DQ8 can develop celiac disease... -
Hi PR40 I just saw a presentation by Dr. Fasano, one of the world's leading celiac specialists and he never once said "good news! there are celiacs who can resume eating gluten without consequences!!". (if he had, the whole room full of people would have probably run out for bagels and dozens would have been killed in the stampede....) I think maybe...

ARCHIVED Gluten Sensitivity ~ Question About Igg Aga Result
IrishHeart replied to haren.13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
She could still be non-celiac gluten sensitive and exhibit all the symptoms you describe, including the behavioral issues. Open Original Shared Link Sounds as if being gluten-free and DF is keeping her healthy and happy, IMO. Symptom resolution --to me, that's an excellent indicator. -
ARCHIVED Dr. Fasano's Gluten Freedom Discussion
IrishHeart replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Publications & Publicity
The entire book is well written and having met the man, I can honestly say, that he is the most down-to-earth compassionate doctor there is and we are fortunate he is our most vocal celiac advocate. Case in point, while he was speaking to this giant room full of people, a baby started to cry and fuss at the back and the mom scrambled to get him out of there... -
ARCHIVED Ireland - Tips Needed!
IrishHeart replied to JosieToo's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I agree with this totally: Make sure to try the salmon, if you like fish. Best salmon I have ever eaten was in Ireland. and would add: no one on earth is more accomodating than the Irish, IMHO. I would live there, if I could. Have a great trip--it's a beautiful country with generous and kind people and they "get Celiac". -

kitties have major healing powers. a "good colon" is a happy colon. and if'n yer going for fried balls, you're feeling mighty good post "procedure". so glad from what I have read (there I go again!) palm oil has debatable health benefits and the jury is still out http://content.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,2115331,00.html -

I have a 3 ring binder for "gluten-free recipes"--- i.e. baked goods and my old binder which I have had for YEARS which contains everything else. Plus a bunch of recipe books, magazines and a big ole file folder marked "try these". Margarita dinner --whoohooo!! Gimme one! Gimme one! cheers, babe. -

(Bella helps me type too. If I ever say anything stoopit, it's her, not me.) That flatbread idea is great. I got a small bag of ADDY's flour (yes, it's called that now) so I may give it a whirl. I'm going to try that pork recipe myself this weekend. It's your fault I now own two slow cookers. I actually say "Karen made me buy this bigger one " . ... -

The path to finding what else may going on besides gluten intolerance is not always a straight walk, but you can "get there" if you are persistent. Just hear me when I say this: Don't let it consume you and make you crazy. Stressing out over "is it this? is it that?" just creates inflammatory cytokines in your body and that just perpetuates GI tract... -

ARCHIVED Severity Of Symptoms Linked To Genetic Profile?
IrishHeart replied to sweetsailing's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Same here. My GYN, former Endo (cause I do not need him now), a psych doc I went to for "anxiety meds" (I never took )and my PCP--all test for celiac if their patients present as I did with a plethora of symptoms--especially the "extraintestinal ones" because I MADE THEM read the literature. Still working on the 3 neuros I saw. They are stubborn. lol ... -
ARCHIVED Severity Of Symptoms Linked To Genetic Profile?
IrishHeart replied to sweetsailing's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sadly, no. Upon very bad advice from a "functional med doc", I was tested when I was already gluten-free for almost 2 months. (I did that out of sheer desperation on my own since no one could give me any answers and my cousin's wife with NCGS told me "I think you have celiac!) anyway... He told me the test would still be valid. This is incorrect, I know... -
ARCHIVED Severity Of Symptoms Linked To Genetic Profile?
IrishHeart replied to sweetsailing's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am another double DQ2. I just read about the double DQ2 gene being a higher risk for celiac than just one copy in Dr.Fasano's new book and I had to laugh. It explains both of my parents and my health histories, but it's too late for my Dad.. I am not sure it makes it "more severe" in us, but it surely increases our risk of developing it, according to... -

yeah, that "stuff " is always good on the side. I like the looks of that recipe, ski! Yaay for bagel-tolerating. whoohoo! I decided against split pea soup and decided in favor of black bean soup. The great thing is, J does not care either way. He's very easy to cook for--except when it comes to fish. He does not do fish. (shellfish, yes. fish, no... -
ARCHIVED When Labels Say "may Contain Gluten"

Then don't eat those! The can states they are made with peanut oil. Allergy tests are notoriously incorrect. Are you sure it's a peanut allergy? Talk to StephanieL about this. Shoot her a PM . She has extensive knowledge about allergy testing. -
ARCHIVED My Histamine Journey
IrishHeart replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
FE The only way to know if you have a true histamine intolerance is to go on a low histamine diet for 4 weeks. I just explained this on your other thread about this topic. There are no definitive tests in this country. The allergist is not going to help you with this. Those of us who figured this out did it by researching the disorder, making... -
ARCHIVED Dao Enzyme Testing
IrishHeart replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I never said I had "testing for DAO enzymes" because there are no tests available in this country. I said Jebby (aka Jess) had testing for MCAS. You would have to read her blog to see what is involved in those tests. THE BEST way to know if you have a true histamine intolerance is to go on a low histamine diet for 4 weeks. If your symptoms improve, that... -
