  1. I have a thing for aquariums. My fave thing to do...in every city we have ever traveled to.... we find the aquarium. Enjoy all your festivities. Let me know how the risotto works out for you. xx
  2. all I could find on the internet was a tweet from patchi to someone that said no. (tweet is correct, right? I am a dinosaur) lol Open Original Shared Link Follow Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Sorry to inform you that our chocolate can't be considered gluten free 1/1
  3. YO SKI ! Great to see you on here (and not just in my inbox)...wait, that sounds odd YO Love 2 Travel chickie I made cilantro lime "rice"( i.e.cauliflower.) Chicken with Thai red curry. All PALEO. For pete's sake...this is LOTS of work. Waaaaaay more work than just being G F, so anyone who complains about being G F ? Stop it. Stop it right...
  4. That's just crazy cold. I could never live there. I hated the cold in NY and it was not as bad as that and it made me miserable and caused great pain. All I can say is, do what I did last year at this time: Focus on Getting the heck outta there!
  5. Dear B, If it is encouraging at all, I have been doing this Paleo diet since Dec. 13th and I can report some things to you. As we share the same residual symptoms post DX, maybe it will help? I had very definite w/d from sugar, gluten-free grains, legumes and dairy. No doubt about it. Headache, tummy aches, weirdo bowel stuff,--alternating D...
  6. Not being a wise ass here here, honest. I sincerely hope none of you are getting too whacked with snow and cold right now. And you are all on the news down here and they start the news with "those poor folks up in ......(insert place here)." So, I am hoping it's not too bad for you all. Where I used to live in NY...our friends report -11 and 13 inches...
  7. that IS bliss ! LOL Happy New Year!
  8. Lots of people seem to like the Glutino crackers as a sub for saltines. Maybe others can give you more suggestions.
  9. I was composing my reply when Colleen suggested we were done here, and did not see her post, so please allow me one last thought. Nick, No one has presented any "arbitrary guesses" to you. On the contrary, you're presenting them here. Article #1 was posted in the 90's and it is one doctor's opinion. "My guess is that this gluten is derived from...
  10. Paleo is meat, fish, poultry, wild game, eggs, nuts, veggies, fruit and good fats like: avocado, coconut oil. Olive oil No dairy. No refined sugar. No grains. No legumes. It's not exactly my cup o'tea, but I am giving it a good solid trial run.
  11. It's called the PALEO diet. I am doing it to reduce inflammation too. (and lose the 40 lbs. I gained post DX). I am on it right now. So is J. Glad to have the company! I like this chick's book and blog (in addition to reading Robb Wolf's book and visiting Elana's Pantry) Open Original Shared Link P.S. why didn't ya just ask me, sweets...
  12. Exactly my point, Nick. WE ARE giving you the research and the science. You're telling us " you got sick" and so, it's not G F. sorry, kiddo, but we just do not support the claims that whiskey is not gluten free. It's not just me saying this to you, it's the science and the celiac researchers that maintain that distilled alcohol is safe. You wrote...
  13. "You and other celiacs" may very well be unable to tolerate whiskey. It's pretty rough on the gut. BUT it is not a gluten reaction. Google searches and anecdotal evidence aside, the science still stands. Gluten is distilled out. (and if you LITERALLY died when you drank it, you would not be writing this post and insisting that gluten is in whiskey...
  14. You can have a stomach bug without a fever. I had one 2 weeks ago. I took extra probiotics and rode it out. People go to my gym when they are sick and spread their germs everywhere. ugh! stay home when you are sick, people!! Celiac disease is under control off gluten, so symptoms of a glutening will not "pop up" unless you have ingested gluten. ...
  15. I asked my Doc about this once and he said it could be a "precursor" to the skin manifestation of celiac (DH) And that the sores I got on my face, lip and scalp were not DH exactly, but "gluten sores" as he called them. I did have red skin, itchiness and pain. Hot to the touch, but not the blisters indicative of DH. I could not tolerate the sun or heat...
  16. My mince meat pie is not the one made with meat. Mine is the fruit-based sweet pie traditionally served for Christmas. It's fruits (and brandy.) Glad you feel better.
  17. Laura--kudos to your MIL and to you for easing so gracefully into the G F life. Addy Love2 Sorry you got hit by the gluten truck (dammit!) lots of water, proBs and rest. If you are like me, you may experience something I call the "dopey effect" followed by the "ouchy" factor, then the "burnies" enter...and my nerves sizzle. followed by...
  18. EERS03 I did not know you also shared this peculiar and horrid symptom with me. Sorry you had to suffer with it also. I think your thoughts about the shower are very wise. I dreaded the "rubbing" of the towel and frankly, even being touched was painful. (and I was doing PT and massages to help my painful muscles) Clothing was "prickly" and abrasive...
  19. It's funny, but I got some Lancome lotion for a gift and as I was reading the label, I was thinking about your post and wondered what you decided to do. From all the research I have ever read, even if there were a minute amount of hydrolyzed wheat in a lotion or a lipstick, it would take tubes of it to be concentrated enough to produce a problem. Open...
  20. One of the worst celiac symptoms I had --beginning 3 years before diagnosis--- was burning sensations in my skin. It was agony. I burned from head to toe, my skin was bright red and I felt as if someone had poured liquid heat into my bloodstream. No one could explain it to me and I saw dozens of doctors. After diagnosis, the best explanation for...
  21. Boatload of dental work here, too. (and thank you so much for that, celiac!) The mold materials may have had some gums in there that did not agree with me. And I always feel like total crap after anesthetics/numbing agents/any of the "--caines" family. But it still is not a glutening, as far as symptoms go, for me.
  22. Your recovery and triumph over gluten-induced illness, pain and misery...is inspirational!!! I just plain love you and I am so happy you have reclaimed your life, moved forward and landed that new teaching position! BIG CONGRATS, Dear MW Happy New Year, sweet girl!! Caribbean Hog Fish (Snapper), scallops, shrimp and roasted root veggies for...
  23. Ok, the "neck pain thing" is the bane of my existence, and my best advice is...get a massage! It's muscle weakness and it will spark up for no reason. But if I have it all week...and it is WORSE, something is going on. Check everything you are eating for CC. IMHO, the cappuccino is not the culprit.
