ARCHIVED Resturant Chains That Have Gluten Free Options?
ECUmom3 replied to norahsmommy's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Not so for the Cary,NC location. I had the pizza there Sat. nt. and it was not good!!! Also, no gluten-free bread for dipping at this location. With all that said, however, I have had their gluten-free pasta with clam sauce a few weeks ago and it was great! Unfortunately for me, I have to travel over an hour to eat there. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Allergy Medications?
ECUmom3 replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Costco's brand-Kirkland Allergy Aller-Tec. It is gluten free. But if you do not have a Costco, my 2011/2012 Gluten Free shopping guide states that Walgreens offers the following gluten-free allergy meds., but I would check in case formulas have changed:Allergy Multi Symptom (Day/Night Caplet combo pack, Day Caplets, Day Quick Gels, Night caplets) and... -
Our family will be traveling to Hilton Head, SC again this summer for vacation. The first time since I've been diagnosed with Celiac. Any suggestions for safe gluten free dining? We usually travel to Savannah at least one day during our trip. Any suggestions for there as well? Thanks so much!

I need help. I'm still new to eating gluten free (approx. 2 1/2 months in). My son is getting married in New Bern, NC-approx. 3 hrs. away. We will be down there for 3 nts. and staying in a hotel. Made the reservations prior to diagnosis. It just came to me that I might need to check and make certain the room has a refrige. and microwave. They do not, but...

ARCHIVED Flourless Chocolate Cake
ECUmom3 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sorry, I don't get to check this site very often. My mom has been having heart problems, so I have to take her to her doctor's appointments. The cake turned out well, however, VERY rich for someone who doesn't eat a lot of sweets! I froze the majority of the cake, but haven't checked to see how it tastes afterwards. I'll let you know when I do. Thanks... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Makeup In Dept. Stores
ECUmom3 replied to wannabhealthy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not only is it possible to accidently ingest these products (ex. place contaminated hands in mouth, etc.) but many of us have DH (dermatitis herpetiformis), so yes we do need to be extra careful, not only with what we take in, but also what we put on our skin. Like many of the other who responded, I started using Bare Essentials. It's a little more expensive... -
ARCHIVED Flourless Chocolate Cake
ECUmom3 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Here is the response from King Arthur Flour regarding freezing the Flourless Chocolate Cake: Thank you for your email. Yes flourless chocolate cake can be frozen. However the texture changes dramatically. The defrosted cake will be much firmer and dense in texture. Please contact me if I may be of further assistance. Regards, Frank | the... -

ECUmom3 replied to ECUmom3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For those who might be interested-I did some further digging and found that none of the ingredients contain glute, so I ate some of them and haven't had any problems. -

ARCHIVED Flourless Chocolate Cake
ECUmom3 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank you both for your response. The wedding is May 7th, and it's about 3 hrs. from where we live. I know that there will be little to nothing there that I will be able to eat (at the Reception), so I'm trying to plan ahead(meals, etc.). I'm still very new to all this; not quit 3 months since diagnosis. We will be there for 3 nts. and staying in a hotel... -
ARCHIVED Flourless Chocolate Cake
ECUmom3 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm not a baker, but I would love to make this cake (the Flourless Chocolate Cake first mentioned in this thread) to carry with me and have at my son's wedding, and also at the Rehearsal dinner. Do you think that this cake would freeze well? Thanks. -
I'm sorry to hear that your daughter had to go through that. I know it must have been difficult for her to stand her ground against adults, but she was absolutely right in what she did, as long as she did it respectfully, as I'm sure she did. After all, she is the one who has to suffer through the consequences if your mother was wrong. I guess the best...

ARCHIVED Are Dove Dark Choc Roasted Almonds gluten-free?
ECUmom3 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought a bag of Dove Roasted almonds covered in dark chocolate. Does anyone know if these are gluten free? I tried to call the 800#, but their offices have already closed for the day, and I really want to eat some. Thanks for your help. -
I love grits and eat them all the time. Have never heard of the brand you mentioned, but I use Arrowhead Mills organic yellow corn grits. They say gluten free right on the box. Never had a problem with CC.

ARCHIVED Target & Wal-mart Brand Medications
ECUmom3 replied to horsegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had a bottle of Target's "All Day Allergy Relief" and wanted to know if it was gluten free. Instead of asking the pharm., I contacted the 800# on the bottle, and they were very helpful. It is in fact gluten free. I would suggest that you do the same. Have in hand a list of all the meds. you are interested in, and they should be able to give you the correct... -
ARCHIVED What's Your Favorite Coffee?
ECUmom3 replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I too like mild coffee, and my sister-in-law turned me onto Caribou's DayBreak blend. I use the decaf. It is the best coffee I've ever had. Check out their website. They have customer ratings on each flavor to help you choose the right blend for yourself. Hope this helps! -

Help! Diagnosed 1 month ago with Celiac. I have found, through trial and error, that I am not tolerating dairy and soy. I have also found that I am not tolerating vinegars very well, at the moment. Does anyone have a recipe for a tasty sald dressing that does not contain any of these. Thanks so much!

ARCHIVED Question For Ladies In Their 40's Or 50's
ECUmom3 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have just recently been diagnosed with Celiac and have DH. My oldest son will be getting married in early May, so I am looking for a quality foundation, powder, and blush that will give me good, and lasting coverage. I have fairly dry skin, however I still get a little "greasy" in the T-zone. I need good coverage because I do not have "flawless" skin, as... -
