I just let them know when we are talking about when and where I usually say something like.. "I am so looking forward to getting to together. Something you should know is, I can't have gluten which is in a huge number of things and they like to hide it in places. How about I make it simple and just bring food for myself. I know it has been hard for...

ARCHIVED I Let Dh Talk Me Into Something Dumb
Jungle replied to Poppi's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So, in the end it was a blessing in disguise. Now he doesn't question (in his mind or out loud) whether you should eat gluten. My DH tries to be supportive and on some level he gets it but he doesn't understand why just a tiny amount isn't okay. As I don't seem to have visible reactions it is hard for him to understand why I need to try my best to... -
ARCHIVED My School Doesn't Understand
Jungle replied to CourtneyLee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I vote for a Doctor's note and a link to this site. They can read about how important CC is and that you really can't be in there. There is no reason why they can't find an alternative for you. I like the idea of a project you do at home planning gluten-free meals and cooking them on Video. -
Well, money talks. I'd leave after speaking to the manager. And point out the obvious. A gluten free meal is not a big deal. Even if they only have a salad, they can serve that politely. I wouldn't want to eat in a restaurant where I had been made to feel so unwelcome. Who knows what they'd do to the meal in the back to get back at a difficult customer...

ARCHIVED Need Some Advice About Having Children Tested
Jungle replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just had my two older girls tested. (6 and 8) As I didn't have symptoms, and I tested positive, I don't think whether they have signs or not is a reason to be tested or not. I think it is important to know. Not knowing even if you don't have outward symptoms can still cause problems. I am waiting to test my 2 year old. As her growth is fine and... -
Good Question. I was asymptomatic and hoping to have more energy but after 2 1/2 months I feel the same.

ARCHIVED Annoying Friends!
Jungle replied to Victoria6102's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am sorry that people are so rude to you. What do you think about making an appt. with your youth pastor and asking him why he allows people to bully you? The behaviours you are describing are not okay for any reason. He needs to come up with a plan to stop them. He is responsible for creating a safe environment. If you get no where with him go to the... -
ARCHIVED Need To Vent, Shoulder To Cry On And Everybody

I am sorry that he isn't standing up and being a man to support his woman. -
ARCHIVED Restaurants Won't Allow Any Outside Food
Jungle replied to SarahB34's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Money talks. Cancel the booking and have the party elsewhere. If they are unable to meet your needs they don't deserve your business. -
ARCHIVED School Celebrations Without Shared Food (Ideas?)
Jungle replied to seezee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
After going to my first Birthday Party (for my nephew) where pizza was served. I agree about spending a week in detention being a better choice. That Pizza smelled so wonderful, and it was pepperoni, Mmmmmm! and eating gluten free dry store bought cookies was less than satisfying. Think activity based. Trip to the pool. Outside fun day. Movie.... -
ARCHIVED Should My Family Get Tested?
Jungle replied to chili's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The only reason I was diagnosed was because my brother and niece were. I got tested just to rule out Celiacs. Go figure. I have 3 kids also and will have them tested soon. -
When you RSVP you could write a quick note asking if it is not too much bother could they provide a gluten free meal but to also say if it is a problem you'd be happy to bring your own and just to let you know so you could be prepared.

So My husband and I are going to Honolulu for a week! Yeah, except last time we were there it was before gluten was on the radar. So any suggestions for gluten-free friendly restaurants and tricks I should know. I have only been gluten-free for about a month and although things in my home have settled in to a new pattern that isn't such a big deal I...

I am sorry to hear you may have miscarried. Having been there the not knowing is nerve racking and then (in my case) the knowing was heartbreaking. I'd like to be able to say I did something different that resulted in a happy baby. But I did everything the same. I had 2 easy pregnancies followed by 3 miscarriages followed by another easy pregnancy. I...

ARCHIVED Boyfriend In Denial About Celiac Disease
Jungle replied to ginny1138's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I guess you have to decide if this is what you want to sign-up for a lifetime of. If he doesn't want to take care of himself, can you depend on him to take care of you? It is not your job to rescue him. There are many things in life that are hard to deal with. As annoying as celiacs is, it is a very simple medical diagnosis. Don't eat gluten and... -
ARCHIVED How Would You Handle A School Like This?
Jungle replied to Kimmik95's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow, So I'd ask for one meeting with all the people who are in contact with your child in a school day including the principal. Then you can work out a plan together and make sure they all understand the seriousness of celiacs. I'd have a few reading materials ready for them and go through it at the meeting to ensure everyone understands the situation... -
ARCHIVED Nutrition Student With Questions For The Gluten Free World
Jungle replied to malfnutstudent's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What would have helped? Someone to come to my house and help me pull all the Gluten foods. Someone to go to my grocery store with me to show me what gluten-free options I do have. A booklet with recipes for common things like pancakes, biscuits, cookies etc. Someone to explain the ins and outs of celiacs. A list of tricks for eating out A simple way... -
ARCHIVED What To Do Now That I'm Pregnant
Jungle replied to parrfunkel's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think staying gluten free while pregnant is the safest way to go. If you are celiac then you are giving your body and baby the best of what it needs. If you are not celiac you are still giving the baby a healthy diet. On the other hand if you eat gluten and you are celiac then you and your baby are not getting what you need. Your testing may still... -

I second the crockpot and rice cooker with steaming basket. It means I can walk in the door and serve dinner. -

ARCHIVED Commandments Of gluten-free Eating Out
Jungle replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thou shalt have snack in your pocket. Justeth in case. Thou shalt remember you are eating out to enjoy the company not the salad. -
ARCHIVED New Food Allergies And Family Doesn't Understand
Jungle replied to GlutenFreeManna's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow! I can't imagine how hard it is even in your own home. To take your diet on the road and to a house that is nut-free is impossible. I like the idea of having your husband call. What if he phoned them to let them know how worried he was about you. It might make more sense when he explains how worried he is that he might lose you to something as... -
ARCHIVED First Time Going Out For Dinner Since Diagnosed?
Jungle replied to CourtneyLee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I vote bring food with you. Then when their food arrives you can pull your sandwich etc. out and enjoy your evening and not worry about it. After my first meal out I will always have snacks with me so I don't have to worry about it and I can just enjoy the time with others. -
ARCHIVED I Have A Gluten Free Bun In My Oven !
Jungle replied to Rachel W's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Congrats, and Prayers. -
How Rude! I guess the first time this happens you are surprised. But the second time you can have a plan. It is like when you are pregnant and people you don't know come and rub your belly. I just started smacking their hand away. They have no right to touch you even if you have a big baby belly. They have no right to be in your food. I wouldn...
