ARCHIVED Glutened-Little Vent
howlnmad replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Glad that you're feeling a little better. I hate it when the wife gets fouled up. I feel sorry for her and upset that there is nothing I can do for her. -

ARCHIVED Going Home For The First Time Since Dx, How To Explain "kitchen Rules" To My Mom?
howlnmad replied to BelleVie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's going to be a big help with her being used to you already having dietary restrictions. The big thing that she is going to have to get used to is what utensils she uses while preparing foods. That seems to be one of my biggest downfalls, grabbing the wrong dang spoon . -
ARCHIVED Questions About Sharing Food In Family With Newly Diagnosed Member
howlnmad replied to sriddle's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yup, it's true. And be sure to label the items gluten-free to avoid cross contamination in the future. -
ARCHIVED What Do I Feed My Wife?
howlnmad replied to IHateSpiders's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Co-existing isn't that hard but can be frustrating. You will make mistakes and you'll get mad at yourself, I know, I do it all the time. For the most part, the gluten-free foods don't taste that much different or any at all. I'm with ya on the bread. We keep my bread and hers but trust me, they are no where near each other. We have seperate cooking utensils... -

ARCHIVED Mc D's gluten-free Burgers & Wendy's Frosty Cone
howlnmad replied to Auntie-Manda's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The way foods get thrown around at Mc Ds, I can see a serious CC problem there . We tried Red Robin a couple of weeks ago and that was a big jump and I think that they'd be a little better trained or informed than the high school freshman a Mc Ds. -
ARCHIVED Struggling With Kitchen Prep
howlnmad replied to SkyBlue4's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The wifey still uses her mixer and hasn't had a problem. We did give up the bread maker but mainly because it was non-stick and we weren't willing to risk it. -
The hostess seemed a bit bewildered on the gluten free subject but I will say that our server seemed to be on top of the subject. I am so happy that the wifey has found another place that she's comfy with.

ARCHIVED Monthly Box Subscriptions?
howlnmad replied to emilykay405's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't know? $30 for cardboard? Ever try to eat that crap, tastes nasty . I think we'll just stick with cooking fresh foods. Protiens, rice and vegies go great together. Just kidding. If it's not available locally, get it where you can. Ooops, that didn't sound right. -

ARCHIVED Wheat Bran - Try It - It's Great!
howlnmad replied to Candy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Gonna take more than that to get me upset but I don't want/need anyone giving any newbies or oldies any bad advice that could set them back and make them miserable. -
ARCHIVED Wheat Bran - Try It - It's Great!
howlnmad replied to Candy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think with friends like that, who needs any damn enemies. And anyone that would suggest that is an idiot and has no idea what this is all about. -
ARCHIVED Wheat Bran - Try It - It's Great!
howlnmad replied to Candy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
At the risk of being warned or even banned, I'm going to say that this has to be about one of the dumbest things that I've heard. Just because it's the wheat husk, it doesn't have any gluten?! That's like saying an orange rind doesn't have any vitamin C. All I can say is that if it works for you, go for it but I wouldn't be recommending it to a Celiac sufferer... -
ARCHIVED Any 'canners' Out There?
howlnmad replied to notme's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks Ken. He says that they were full when they came out but the brine level shrunk over night. He also claims that the seals were good. I suggested that he poke the tops to let air escape. -
ARCHIVED Any 'canners' Out There?
howlnmad replied to notme's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I had someone question about okra (nasty stuff). He pickled some and says that as the jars cooled, the brine reduced. Claims it was 2" low over night. I suggesred repacking and processing using more brine. He was curious if this was common and how to avoid it. Any ideas? -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Beer
howlnmad replied to newcoeliac13's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Anheuser-Busch makes a sorghom beer called Redbridge that my wife didn't think was to bad. Then she tried the Bards and likes that even better. Click on the Bards ad on this forum and see if they sell any locally. We've been working with a local store to stock it for her. -
