ARCHIVED When Glutened To You Feel Terrible Instantly?
color-me-confused replied to Silencio's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
For me it's about 1/2 hour to an hour for the stabbing pain in the duodenum to start. Then it's all downhill from there... -
ARCHIVED Any Low On Vit D?
color-me-confused posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My vitamin D levels are very low again, in the single digits. I am on the 50,000 IU weekly treatment regimen. Does anyone else have trouble keeping their Vit D in the normal range? -
In the past for injury-related inflammation I've found that large doses of fish oil capsules worked amazingly well. I'd take around 12-16 a day (reasoning that fish oil is food) and the efficacy was superior to ibuprofen for me. Usually I just use naproxen sodium for inflammation but if the max dose isn't doing the trick I add some fish oil and it helps...

ARCHIVED Bloooooooated
color-me-confused posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Agh. I got glutened last Friday by a restaurant. I had thought I was doing better, but I think I slipped up at work and re-glutened myself by accidental cross contamination of my lunch in the company microwave. The timing for this afternoon's new round of reflux and stomach pain would fit that scenario. Now my stomach is swollen and blah I feel like crap... -
ARCHIVED Three Month Bicycle Trip
color-me-confused replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Obsessive phase over some idea? You must be related to me! Cycling is a passion of mine. I don't do any long distance touring but am planning on trying some randonneuring rides in 2012. If you're putting in 3500 miles to cross the US consider Open Original Shared Link. Have you considered doing one of the group tours run by a group like Open Original... -
ARCHIVED Neuro Signs
color-me-confused replied to red island's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I eat lunch somewhat late to avoid a crowded lunchroom. I have sort of a ritual that involves wiping down the microwave, my spot at a table, and the chair with a towel with some cleaning spray. I use my own utensils and never eat anything people have brought in, except fruit which I'll re-wash. Also, anything with gluten is banned from my office and if... -
ARCHIVED Social Situations
color-me-confused replied to Googles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have a coffee mug that says Open Original Shared Link that I use at work. It gets the point across, but I've been here a few years and they're used to me and my sense of humor. Some humor goes a long way, in my experience, in making others feel more comfortable about my issues. -
ARCHIVED Sarcasm About Celiac
color-me-confused replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't encountered any such attitudes (yet!). Do men get less crap, snarkiness, and hostility from co-workers, friends, and acquaintances about the gluten-free diet? -
ARCHIVED A Miracle?!? - Change In My Reaction To Gluten
color-me-confused replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Here's a question: does the way that the gluten is cooked make a difference? If that gluten cake was cooked for a long time perhaps enough of the gliadin proteins were denatured, reacted with something in the cooking process, or something along those lines so you didn't get a severe reaction. This isn't unheard of, there was a paper published a few years... -
ARCHIVED Acid Reflux Is This A Symptom
color-me-confused replied to Richie1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had 7 years of acid reflux that responded poorly to Prilosec. It got absolutely unbearable in the months before getting my somewhat murky celiac diagnosis. Resolved after 2 days on the gluten free diet. Now, reflux is my 'early warning sign' that I've had a low-level exposure to gluten. -
For some reason if I take a magnesium tablet (Mg oxide, I think it is) at night I sleep very deeply.

ARCHIVED Today I Miss Biscotti
color-me-confused posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't really know why, it's not something I ever ate with any frequency. Nonetheless, I am having a real craving for biscotti today. -
Has anyone tried treating brain fog? It's very similar to fibro fog found in fibromyalgia, and those patients are sometimes treated with drugs like Concerta (ADHD med) or Provigil (often used for narcolepsy) which clears the fog.

ARCHIVED Coping With Increased Sensitivity- Any Success Stories?
color-me-confused replied to dws's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Non-celiac gluten intolerance is considered to be about 30 years behind celiac disease in terms of research, quoting a researcher from memory. You can find papers published in the last few months that are establishing non-celiac gluten intolerance as a separate disease category. There's always the possibility that you're sick with something else entirely... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Attack, Has This Happened To You?
color-me-confused replied to oldman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Here in the USA health care is expensive and the wait times are also horrendous. My wife once spent 10 hours in an ER waiting room with a kidney stone, dry heaving in a bucket. My pleas to get her re-triaged fell on deaf ears, I nearly called an ambulance to pick her up from the waiting room to take her back to the same ER. -
ARCHIVED Pans And Cross Contamination
color-me-confused replied to DiagnosedandDealing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Place the pan in your oven. Run a self-cleaning cycle which will burn the seasoning and any proteins lurking about off. Then scrub it clean, re-season, and it'll be fine. -
ARCHIVED Rice Works Chips
color-me-confused replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I tried the sea salt variety and liked them, they're sort of like tortilla chips. Then my lips went numb, a sign of an allergic reaction. The only ingredient on the list I'm not 100% sure I am not allergic to is the sesame seeds...I've been avoiding sesame seeds since then. -
ARCHIVED Health Risks Of Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance?
color-me-confused replied to color-me-confused's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I guess in practice either gluten intolerance or pre-clinical celiac is the same...don't eat gluten! thanks for your help. I'm going to do some reading and try not to worry about the difference too much, I think. -
ARCHIVED Health Risks Of Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance?
color-me-confused replied to color-me-confused's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was looking at my blood work last night. The IgG test is on there but it doesn't say if it was the anti-gliadin version or the total IgG test. I'll have to dig into that a little more to see which was done. If it was the anti-gliadin IgG in the normal range than I'd wonder if I have a gluten intolerance, it might be an intolerance to some other part... -
The doc thinks I'm more in the gluten intolerant group than the celiac group, based on the degree of inflammation in my biopsy. Aside from the lack of difference of treatment (gluten-free diet), what's known about health risks of non-celiac gluten intolerance? Not that I am all that interested in eating gluten again, I can't imagine any good would come...

ARCHIVED Vitamin D Deficiency--Poll
color-me-confused replied to PainfulSpaghetti's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Tested at 15, 8 weeks of 50,000 weekly and 2000 daily, along with only sunscreening my face, got me to 27. Now on 1000 daily. -
ARCHIVED What If A Gluten Free Diet Is Not Strictly Followed?
color-me-confused replied to Jen39's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Of course it is realistic. It will take self-education, effort, lots of mistakes, and lots of energy but you and he can do it. Oh, and prepare to spend more $ on food -
ARCHIVED Scratched Aluminum Coodware
color-me-confused replied to Austin Guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When you say aluminum you mean plain metal right, not Teflon? If they're Teflon toss them. If the pot is hard anodized aluminum it's unlikely you'll be able clean out the scratches and that anodized coating is too thick to remove easily. Otherwise for plain aluminum I say keep them both. Scrub the #%&! out of them with steel wool and Bar Keeper's... -
ARCHIVED Losing Weight After Going gluten-free?
color-me-confused replied to xxkristin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've dropped 25 lbs after going gluten-free. My carb and snack cravings are gone. More than that my appetite is normal, i.e. I can tell when I'm full or really hungry vs. bored/tired/etc. I'm eating a lot less but I'm eating the right amount. I think I had years of minor malabsorption which had left me in a metabolic "starvation mode" like people land... -
ARCHIVED Aaack! He Put Macaroni In My Pan. Now What?
color-me-confused replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Teflon pan? Toss it. Go for cast iron or carbon steel if you want nonstick - if need be the seasoning and re-applied can be burnt off if they get glutened.
