  1. I was diagnosed with Celiac about 2 1/2 years ago (diagnosed via 3 different blood tests by 2 different doctors and biopsy). About 18 months ago I began a vegan diet, lost 75 lbs., stopped eating any sugar other than what is in fruit/veggies naturally, began exercising regularly, started taking probiotics daily and now have normal digestion, dropped my cholesterol...
  2. But with probiotics you can create a healthy colon environment rather than taking laxatives which does not help you other than to go to the bathroom. I can't believe no one here takes probiotics!
  3. Probiotics are the way to go. I take Align once a day and my chronic constipation is cured - normal bms for the first time since I was in high school....I am 62 and was diagnosed (blood test and biopsy) with Celiac almost 2 1/2 years ago. I buy Align at Costco. I am vegetarian - eating a plant-based diet other than salmon once a week and plain Greek yogurt...
  4. I was diagnosed 2 years ago next month....I have suffered from constipation most of my adult life. I have taken expensive digestive enzymes, different pro-biotics, fiber - tried so many things - nothing helped. I was spending $100 a month on a natural probiotic and fiber capsules from my nearby apothocary store....with very mixed results. I started taking...
  5. Bacon is delish - no doubt about it! I think that it is great that you have found a diet that works for you - bottom line is not all of us with Celiac react the same to certain foods or even exposure to gluten...finding the path that makes us feel our best is what we all need to do - good luck with your Paleo diet!
  6. I appreciate everyone's posts and thoughts. I just came from the doctor and got the results of my extensive blood tests - I am doing great - in fact, I was told to take my iron supplements only every other day instead of every day - probably because of all the leafy greens I'm eating and the fact that I'm not eating anything remotely suspect of containing...
  7. Thanks kenlove! I'm happy to hear that you are feeling better on your vegan diet - you have been eating this way for a while now - very encouraging. So sorry about your heart issues - is the damage repairable through proper diet? I go in tomorrow for my blood test results to see if I am lacking in any vitamins/minerals - I did this to make sure that I...
  8. Are there any other vegans with Celiac out there? Apparently not.
  9. Hi all, just wondering if there are any vegans out there? My husband and I have been mostly vegans for a little over 3 months (I say mostly because we do eat local, organic egg whites and local honey) but other than that we adhere strictly to an animal-gree diet and nothing we eat has cholesterol in it. I was diagnosed with Celiac about 18 months ago...
  10. Could this constant feeling of being hungry/tired be psycological? No offense meant, but what you are describing sounds more mental than physical.
  11. Really it is not bread that makes you not hungry....vegetables, fruits, legumes, beans, nuts, seeds - those foods make you full. Just elminate bread and start eating more of the food that I listed - I guarantee you will be fuller longer and be healthier.
  12. My idea of eating gluten free has definitely changed over the last 18 months (since I was diagonosed with Celiac). I started off spending a fortune on processed "gluten free" products - I just gained weight, was always constipated and was always hungry - probably from the lack of fiber in "gluten free" processed foods. Now I eat a plant based diet and...
  13. I would eat before the event or take a lunch that I could eat in the car and then have a green salad or something at the event (bring my own dressing). I wouldn't want to take food to be heated up and I would try to make things as simple as possible and not make a big deal out of my needs. Adopt a mindset that these events you are going to are just 1 day...
  14. I eat gluten free oats on a regular basis. My celiac sprue level is almost normal.
  15. First of all - celiac disease is different than a wheat or gluten allergy although they do have some things in common. Here is a link that might help you unerstand the difference: Open Original Shared Link First, you need to be tested for celiac (blood test) to determine if you have the disease as it is significantly more serious to have celiac...
  16. I will develop throbbing pain in my left lower abdomen within a few hours after being glutoned, I won't sleep well that night and I will be extra tired the next day. I have never noticed any emotional symptoms.
  17. You gave me a few giggles with your post...I know there are many that just don't understand - even professionals. When I travel I notice that some states/cities are just more aware of celiac (restaurants, grocery stores, waiters, cooks, etc.). Kentucky (where I live) has a way to go although we do have our first gluten free cafe and bakery that opened...
  18. There are such things as celiac informed and educated dieticians. Please don't listen to those who just dismiss every single dietician because personal prejudice. The hospital dietician who counseled me was the most knowledgeable person on celiac I have run across - including my doctor. I was able to ask her any question about celiac and she had answers...
  19. Hopefully your doctor has made an appointment for you with a dietician or nutritionist. My doctor sent me to the local hospital for a 2 hour orientation on celiac with a dietician. She had mounds of helpful info - local restaurants that served gluten free foods, local support groups, online support groups, lists of foods with hidden gluten, diet guidelines...
  20. Vitamin D, Iron and thyroid - all very low because of celiac.....but all things that will improve or become normal as I remain gluten free,
  21. Of course I've explained all these things to my son - I am his mother and I love him. He isn't interested in hearing it - I can't force him - he is 39 years old! We get along very well and have a very good relationship. He is a successful businessman and has 4 small children and a wife and two businesses so his life is very busy. He just doesn't want...
  22. My oldest son (39) has all the symptoms of celiac and has for years. I was diagnosed earlier this year and have told him repeatedly that he needs to be tested....he won't and he is critical of me for not being willing to have even a little piece of pie or a hamburger.....he doesn't want to understand the disease because he is not willing to face the reality...
  23. Yep - I told the store manager right after the incident.
  24. My husband and I were at Costco today - rarely do I try any of their samples unless they specifically say "gluten free." There was a sample lady there today that was promoting a stir-fry tofu product - "low fat, high in protein and gluten free" is what she said. The ingredient panel was cut from the box and displayed on a display board - "gluten free...
  25. I supply the sacrament gluten-free bread for the 5 people with celiac in our ward. I would ask the Stake President about this because I believe your Bishop is incorrect in not allowing you to bring gluten free bread or rice cakes for the sacrament.
