ARCHIVED Iron Supplement/constipation/vommiting
stanleymonkey replied to momma bee's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If she still chokes and vomits a lot, ask about eosinophilic esophagitis, our 2 yr old is going to be checked for it ask she chokes a lot, even on her own spit -

stanleymonkey replied to GwenO's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We use superstore products sometimes, they are certified gluten-free. She might be very sensitive to even those products. We have noticed my eldest gets her DH back if she has too many processed gluten-free products. The only gluten-free alternatives she usually gets are bread and cereal. Even then we limit it. It might be worth avoiding gluten-free... -

ARCHIVED Gi And Allergist Appointments- Suggestions?
stanleymonkey replied to wmramsel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If she has a skin prick test the allergist will measure the size of the hive, it is supposed to indicte how severe the allergens, then they will do an IgE blood test to determine if it is an IgE true allergy. There is no skin prick test for gluten, but I would make sure they do barley wheat rye and oats Skin testing and blood testing gives a more accurate... -
ARCHIVED Gi And Allergist Appointments- Suggestions?
stanleymonkey replied to wmramsel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Some people get no + skin reaction as an allergy is caused by blood cells, your skin is not your blood, well that's how our allergist explained it -
ARCHIVED Gi And Allergist Appointments- Suggestions?
stanleymonkey replied to wmramsel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Our allergist stands by food challenges of suspected foods and IgE blood tests of suspected foods, as your skin is not you guts so you cannot always expect your skin to react the same way as if the food is consumed, I'd keep a note of any foods you think are bothering her and talk to the allergist about IgE testing -

There is also a flip side with an allergist - false negatives, our daughter milk allergy never showed up on the skin prick test, but one drop sent her into anaphylactic shock -

Mabels labels are dishwasher safe ( don't tell me off moderators but if you go to their website and go to cpc preschool fundraiser my daughters preschool - who have been awesome in relation to keeping her safe from gluten exposure - get a share!) I know the mabels labels last my nephew has them for daycare, and they have held up, I know people that get the... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Substitutions And Allergies
stanleymonkey replied to FabRik's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Allergy and intolerance are often used interchangeably by docs, if your tested showed an allergy to wheat then you gave an allergy to wheat, you could also ave an intolerance to wheat but that wouldn't show up on an allergy test.- 1 reply

ARCHIVED New, 2 1/2 Yo Probably Celiac, To Test?
stanleymonkey replied to wmramsel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have you been referred to a pediatric allergist or a regular one? I'd push for a pediatric one I'd they haven't , regular allergists don't always understand how allergies manifest in kids. Usually allergists are immunologists as well, spit may be worth asking about celiac disease, and the allergist will be able to refer to a dermatologist. Our daughter... -
ARCHIVED I Need A Safe Rice. Reacting To Lundberg Time, And Time Again.

Try the bags of rice from predominantly Chinese stores brands that are from the Philippines etc, they rarely grow wheat there, and rice tends to be grown in paddys in the middle of nowhere -

Still waiting! And the last few days she has been pretty bad, of course probably because it's. Holiday weekend! They never get sick during normal office hours! She's had my mother in law freaked out a few times as she thought she was choking, guess a few phone calls are needed on Tuesday to chase up doctors. -

stanleymonkey replied to wmramsel's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just to warn you celiac blood tests in young kids are very unreliable, also if the one day of gluten is all she has had since nov 2012 barring the odd trace amount unless horrific damage was done, her gastro tract may be healed and the blood test will be negative. We cannot have a gluten challenge with our eldest as it makes her horrifically Iill our gastro... -

I forgot to add miralax is odorless and tasteless just stick it in some broth even, don't tell him it's there he won't be able to tell. My 4 yr old never knew when she was getting hers and this is a kid who. An find a tiny piece of onion in a huge bowl of fried rice! Holding in his poop is probably partly a control thing, so if he knows he's getting miralax... -

We were told 1 g for each kg of body weight. We got our four year old off miralax finally, we were told a kd should be on it at least 6 months to get their bowel to shrink and start working properly. Soda is a diuretic, so you won't be helping matters. He seems to be having as difficult a time as my daughters were. You need to see his ped or a gastro to... -

stanleymonkey replied to NotMollyRingwald's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Steamed chicken with salt pepper and a slice of ginger on top. You could try congee, it would be a good food to try for the first few days off the evil stuff! You can make a huge pot of it, and it freezes well, and is so easy to warm up. Add whatever meat and veg you want to make it a full meal. My MIL swears by congee for everything from a cold, to recovering... -

stanleymonkey replied to cait's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Our daughters are both gluten-free, we never got a definitive answer as to wether they have celiac or not as the testing is so unreliable in little kids, and our ped didn't want us to make them ill to find out. We see a dietician, and gluten-free has not done them any harm, they eat a more rounded diet than any of their friends and are very healthy. If... -
