ARCHIVED Best Thing About Going Back On Gluten...
shadowicewolf replied to EmiPark210's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There would be no way i could handle that. I still don't know how i passed that one semester when i was sick. Luckily, I have my own kitchen. But sometimes i wish I could grab that quick meal and not have to worry about CC. I do get apples from there though... and sometimes milk.... But that's it. -

ARCHIVED 8 Months In And No Improvements
shadowicewolf replied to Panda123's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It can take up to two years for any damage to heal. Consider keeping a food dairy. It can help you figure out what might be bothering you. It could very well be that you have an additional intolerance to something (such as corn, soy, and lactose). -
ARCHIVED Celiac. Do I Have It?
shadowicewolf replied to Currantbun's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to be on gluten for testing to be accurate. These two can be caused by acid reflux. Outside of the tongue thing, the rest of those can be caused by celiac. -
ARCHIVED Can't Trust So Called Gluten Free Menu Items Anymore
shadowicewolf replied to glutego's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Generally, it is not safe to eat out unless you personally know the cook. Some restaurants have high awareness of celiac. Others do not. I've eaten out at steak houses before and have been okay. -
ARCHIVED Just A Warning About Perdue Chicken
shadowicewolf replied to ruuning like a zombie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I couldn't find anything on their website either. Generally from what i've seen, chickens are often injected with a salt solution (water and salt). -
ARCHIVED Xanthan Gum
shadowicewolf replied to lissycat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
xanthan gum is sometimes found in pasta sauces. Ragu's Classic Alfredo has it in it. So it is sometimes used in other foods, but its rather rare to find it in them -
ARCHIVED How Do You Cope Post Gluten?
shadowicewolf replied to Vinturi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I tell myself no, its not worth the trouble. I don't do candy anymore for a reason. As a child i only really ate atomic fireballs (had to stop after my tongue decided to go all rough and irritated and last for a week or two without the ability to taste and being really sore), gum does the same (cinnamon flavor). I think its due to the red food coloring... -
ARCHIVED Calling It Celiac?
shadowicewolf replied to bambino716's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No, sadly you really can't. For any school things you need to have a doctor diagnose it. Class room accommodations and such are the reasoning. Luckily it falls under the ADA (Americans with disabilities act) if you are in the US. I've heard of young children getting diagnosed without testing on the basis of a failed gluten trail failing if their... -

ARCHIVED Shocked After Modified Food Starch Comment
shadowicewolf replied to 1974girl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wheat is an allergen as a result it must be listed. It cannot be hidden what so ever. From the USDA website: Open Original Shared Link Meat does not have gluten (unless of course it is breaded or what have you). -
ARCHIVED Should I Have Her Tested
shadowicewolf replied to Gleepers's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, get her tested. Celiac has a wide range of symptoms. The fact that she packs on lbs when she isn't eating enough seems to me like her body may be hording what nutrients it can get. Some celiacs have major weight loss before diagnosis and some gain weight. Another thought is NCGI (non-celiac Gluten intolerence). It can mimic many of the same... -
ARCHIVED Can Going Off Gluten Be Dangerous?
shadowicewolf replied to arocchio's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nope, not at all. If, all of a sudden, you got tired from eating too many oranges and decided to stop eating them, would that be dangerous? Nope. Allergies can happen at any time, of course. There is no predicting those. However if you feel better off of it, then by all means, don't eat it. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Depression
shadowicewolf replied to kaki-clam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep, sounds like you are going through the gluten with drawl. Your body likes the gluten, even if it makes you sick. So, it throws a temper tantrum when it doesn't get it. Generally, from what i went through and what i've heard, mood swings, depression, and so on. -

ARCHIVED Reaction To Rice Cakes, Rice Chex
shadowicewolf replied to julissa's topic in Super Sensitive People
Rice chex has vitamins that are derived from soy. Rice cakes can be cc'd. Try a plain bowl of rice and see how you do. -
ARCHIVED I Was Diagnosed With Celiac
shadowicewolf replied to Lior's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac has a wide range, from stomach aches to constipation. Yes, it is very possible. Celiac can go "silent" (no symptoms) and still be doing damage, regardless of how much gluten has been eaten. -
...I was a year younger than you when i got my glasses (at 5) and lets not get into all the different orthodontic appliances that i had to use... One of which was one that had to be cranked every night. ARCHIVED Celiac Disease.... Do I Really Have It?
shadowicewolf replied to CEThegreat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you were diagnosed via biopsy than i'd say that yes you do. The thing is, to me, it looks like you were a somewhat silent celiac at the beginning (aka next to no symptoms). And with the stopping of the gluten and then re-introducing it, in a not so strict fashion, I believe, has caused you to become more symptomatic. It is very good that you are... -
Really? I had both. Braces for 7-8 years (something like that) and glasses for most of my life. Its very possible that you might have a slight reaction to almonds. After all, anyone can become allergic to anything at any time. Yay! The glasses, by the way, that i was talking about were the no rim ones. I'm too clumsy to even attempt to try those...

ARCHIVED Peanut Butter
shadowicewolf replied to sdore's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No problem! We like our peanut butter. They have a natural version of the honey (roasted? or was honey just added) version. I didn't care for it to much. Rather make my own peanut butter and honey mix. -
ARCHIVED Hla Typing
shadowicewolf replied to VeggieGal's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've got both 2 and 8 My gut was a mess prior to starting the gluten free diet. Vomiting (once to twice a day) plus "D" on a daily basis was not fun. Nausea was a day to day battle. I had some neurological symptoms then too (part of my right arm would go numb, with two of my fingers). Was it gluten related or a pinched nerve? I have no idea, but it stopped...
