  1. That really stinks! But it seems like you have a good attitude. Maybe all of us who have had to stand up to people who "think it's all in our heads" have learned to be stronger than the average person. And that strength will see you through. You'll be in my prayers.
  2. To each his own, I guess. Some folks like liver and onions. Some folks hate it. Some of us love Udi's and Rudi's. I guess you don't. Now, if all you had ever tried was Ener-G tapioca or rice breads, then I'd have to agree with you!
  3. Ice cream has gotten me in the past too. I used to LOVE Bunny Tracks. Now I can't eat any Blue Bunny ice cream at all because they use corn syrup. Ben and Jerry's peanut butter cup is the one that got me. It said the PB cups were gluten free, but made in a facility that processes wheat. It was the ONLY ice cream that even came close at the tiny grocery store...
  4. I'm pretty sure sals do me in too. You know that peanut butter is full of sals, right? And are you peeling those potatoes? The other thing I can think of is the corn. It is fairly high in sals and it is in everything, including the plastic lining in the cans your green beans come in. I found out the hard way that at my sensitivity level, the corn in the new...
  5. Up until I found out I can't eat corn, I LOVED Udi's. To me it tastes like french bread. And I LOVED Canyon Bakehouse seven grain bread. It was almost like having dessert. Now I can't have any bread at all, and although I wouldn't eat Ener-G bread if you paid me, I definitely miss the other two.
  6. I have a sister like that too! As a matter of fact, she "disowned" the whole family, and now she is my only living relative, but I haven't talked to her in almost eight years. She lives in another state. When I moved here (South Dakota) from Connecticut I thought I should call her to let her know, just in case she ever needed to talk to me. She said she doesn...
  7. No GI symptoms except loose, pale stool. Other symptoms: psoriasis, HORRIBLE insomnia, some brain fog, and I have discovered that anything else that is wrong with my body, unrelated to Celiac, gets a lot worse when I have gotten into one of my "poisons". Oh, and I just read in another thread that someone's child had trouble dealing with being in...
  8. Depending on my mood at the time, I might answer someone who said they'd kill themselves if they couldn't eat bread with something like this: "I'd kill myself if I were as stupid and insensitive as SOME people I know."
  9. I don't know if it will work for gluten (probably not), but a friend suggested I drink a glass of water with 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to get the salicylates out of my body. I looked it up, and it IS suggested for metal poisoning, AND for salicylates. That's probably why it WON'T work for gluten though - heavy metals are somehow bound in the...
  10. It depends on what you mean by buying in bulk. If you mean pouring your own out of the bin, the way you can at some healthfood stores (and even some grocery stores for certain things), I don't do it at all. Too much chance of CC.
  11. And if you're still not feeling well after being gluten free for a while, odds are you are intolerant to other things. I found out that corn is even worse for me than wheat. And with the help of some great folks on this board, I figured out that I am salicylate sensitive. Others have problems with tree nuts, nightshades, and a host of others. Flattened villi...
  12. I heard that Speedy Dry has chemicals in it that are bad for cats. This was several years ago and I'm not sure how true it is, but it's not that much cheaper to make it worth the risk for my kitty.
  13. I get the cheap clay type, eight pounds for a buck at our local dollar store. I tried the clumpong kind, and to me, the plain old clay type cuts down on any odor much better than the expensive stuff. And because it's so cheap, I can change it every day. That REALLY cuts down on the odor.
  14. It's been almost five months for me, and I am still taken by surprise with these "meltdown moments". Sometimes I will be fine in a given situation. Other times, even in the exact same situation, I start to cry. I think we are overwhelmed still, with all that this entails, and of course we're still in the process of healing. All of that can lead to a bit of...
  15. I give guitar lessons after I close the shop at six. For three Mondays in a row, my new student's parents didn't come to pick him up until at least a half hour after the lesson ended. Last week when the mother finally showed up 45 minutes late I went to the car and told her that she needs to be here on time. I told her I was supposed to be somewhere half...
  16. Here I am, a day late and five dollars short. (Inflation, you know.) Hope your birthday was so good you've decided to extend it into today!
  17. I haven't had any luck with Ben and Jerry's and it's a shame because I LOVE their ice cream. It seems that all of their gluten free flavors have corn, and all of their corn free flavors have gluten! The last time I tried it was during a weak moment. I got the peanut butter cup flavor which contains all glute free/corn free ingredients, but the label DID say...
  18. Kdonov,I can't thank you enough for the links! Some are sites I visit regularly, but some I had never heard of. I found a list of foods that are OK if you have salicylate sensitivity, and when combining that with my gluten and corn and almond issues, there are still a surprising number of foods I can eat. As someone who doesn't like to cook much...
  19. Well, I'm pretty depressed right now. I have a very painful jaw that is unrelated to food. But I need painkillers, and ALL over the counter tablets have either corn or wheat. I found BC Aspirin Powder, and the ingredients are: Asperin-742 mg, caffeine-38mg, salicylamide-222mg. Well, I've been taking it for about a week now and my psoriasis is flaring BADLY...
  20. Hey Bartkid! Did you know my dog? (check out the thread asking how/why we chose our screen names.) Oh, and welcome to the board!
  21. Well, if you go and don't eat at all, people will be sure to ask why. When you tell them you have food allergies, they are sure to ask why the restaurant couldn't accomodate you. Then you can just smile and tell them that your nephew told you not to eat, rather than trying to work with you. That's pribably even better. I know how hard this must be for...
  22. If it had been a peanut allergy, you know, one of those deadly kind, would they have berated you for that? Well, Celiac can be just as deadly in the long run. If it were me, I would bring my own food and drink, and I'd actually make a show of getting it out and getting it ready. When people ask why you brought your own, you could just smile and explain...
  23. I hate corn. No, I mean I really HATE corn! It's in EVERYTHING, and I predict that before too long, the rest of the world is going to wake up to the fact that corn is bad for people. Between the GMO's and the high fructose corn syrup that has replaced the sugar in most of our foods, I think so many people are going to develope issues that they will have to...

    ARCHIVED What To Do

I went gluten free BECAUSE of my psoriasis. It just happened that when I went gluten free I also went corn free without thinking about it. My psoriasis healed. Then I made some gluten free cornbread. The psoriasis came right back. I was eating Blue Diamond raw almonds as a snack for a while, then I ran out. A few weeks later I bought them again, and the...
