  1. Well, a lot of the fruits and veggies you are eating may be CC'd with corn. Bananas are gassed with ethylene gas to make them ripen. (They are also grown with so much pesticide that I would never eat one again, even if I could!) Bagged salads, bagged baby carrots, and some other veggies are washed in a corn based "citrus" wash. Frozen fruits and veggies are...
  2. My family used to add the suffix -age on to a lot of words, ala "drainage". If it's snowing, there's a lot of snowage going on. I got sick at the local pizza joint because there was a lot of glutenage in the air. I'm having trouble healing because there is so much cornage in our food supply. I have kept my sanity through all of this because of...
  3. I honestly don't know yet. So far I have been corned by accident, but not glutened. I ASSUME I have celiac because my Mom did, but I'm still not certain. Once I have gotten over this last corning (and if I can avoid it long enough), I'm going to gluten myself intentionally to find out.
  4. Back in the days when I could eat corn, I always used corn starch instead of flour. It worked great, and no lumps. But I found that you can't MICROWAVE the leftovers. So what I would do is make my gravy or sauce, and pour it over only what I was going to eat at the time. Then I'd store my gravy/sauce in a seperate container. When I wanted to have it again...
  5. You folks are the best! I can't thank you enough. I don't actually drink milk. I have never liked the stuff. To me it tastes like rubber. I was just mentioning the type of bottle I get my gallons of water in. I knew that older potatoes were gassed with ethylene gas to keep them from sprouting (Bananas are too - to help them ripen.) So from what I...
  6. Yeah. I tried tequila a while back. I had two drinks over the course of about three hours. Then I went home and threw them up. Never again!
  7. When I look at the list of all the foods you already don't eat, I am hesitant to even mention this, but I have discovered that almonds cause my psoriasis to flare too. I'm CERTAIN that food is what causes psoriasis. Mine has completely healed so many times since June, only to come back when I get into the wrong foods. Maybe try giving up nuts for a...
  8. I don't know which comes first - the glutening and resultant psoriasis flares, or in your son's case, the sinus problems. I have noticed with me, that if I have any OTHER health problems, they always get worse when I have been glutened or corned. I think our bodies have just so much healing power to go around, and as our Celiac can be life threatening in...
  9. Thanks for all the tips! The water I drink and use for coffee is reverse osmosis. I get refills out of the machine in the grocery store. I use the cloudy plastic jugs that water or milk come from, so I know they don't have corn. I'm doubting that the filters or anything in the machine could have corn because I've been drinking it every day, but then again...
  10. Thanks, Darn. And I love your avatar, by the way. That's the thing, though - my psoriasis and insomnia WERE completely cleared up. My digestive symptoms are minor. Do people with DH still get flare-ups after it has healed WITHOUT being glutened? If so, maybe it's just a coincedence. I DO know though, that each time I have healed and then had a flare...

    ARCHIVED Shrinking?

When I was 30, I was five foot nine and three quarters. Now, at 57, I am five foot seven. Yeah, I have a degenerating spine too. The last doctor who xrayed my spine actually laughed, then hurriedly appologized. He said I had the crookedest spine he had ever seen. Now that I live in a dry climate, my back doesn't really hurt much, so it's no big deal....
  12. I was that way before I went gluten free. I had terrible insomnia most nights, but I'd finally just get up and start my day at one AM. After a while I would get hungry and eat an english muffin. About fifteen minutes later, I couldn't keep my eyes open and I would go take a nap. I even tried eating before bed and yes, I could get to sleep! Unfortunately...
  13. Thanks for the encouraging words, Lisa. On good days I feel like I could take on the world. My goal is to feel that way every day, but when things like this happen, it feels like I'll NEVER be well. I know that maybe someday I'll be OK. It sure is hard though, getting a glimpse of good health only to have it ripped out from under me at every turn.
  14. Well, I have only been eating chicken, Yukon Gold potatoes, and cauliflower or broccoli for the past couple of weeks. And I don't sing so I never touched the mic. The only things I touched were my guitar and my banjo. (Maybe I'm allergic to banjo's!! ) Other than that, I touched the door handle and my chair. And I NEVER NEVER touch my face unless I...
  15. I hope you all don't get sick of me complaining about corn. I know this is a forum for Celiacs, but I have both corn and gluten problems, and frankly, there isn't a corn intolorance forum out there that is as good and informative as this site is. Anyway, last night I went and played at an open mic at a local restaurant. I knew there would be nothing...

    ARCHIVED Psoriasis?

My Mom had psoriasis, and for thirty years she was under a dermatologists's care. Then in 1985 or so, after years of digestive problems, she was diagnosed with Celiac. After she had been gluten free for a while her psoriasis cleared up completely and permanently. And she had it BAD. So, when I started with psoriasis that kept getting worse, I went gluten...
  17. I'll be closing the shop a little early so I don't have to dodge the little monsters on the way home. Then I'll go into my "sanctuary" with the cat and a good book. I'm a bit claustrophobic, so I keep the back bedroom empty of anything but a table and chair. Peaceful in there. And it's at the back of the house so no one will even be able to see that there...
  18. OK, here's the lowdown on Kettle Brand - no gluten, and no cross contamination worries, as their chips are made in seperate facilities from any gluten containing products they sell. So, see if you can find them, and ENJOY! Open Original Shared Link
  19. I crave bread. Because I am also corn intolerant, and now it seems almonds bother me too, I have not been able to find bread that doesn't bother me. The last time I TRIED bread, it was one I know was gluten free, and even though I didn't see anything in the ingredients list that looked like corn or almonds, there was something (probably corn cross contamination...
  20. If you can find them in your area, Kettle Brand chips are YUMMY, and they are both gluten and corn free. Michael's Seasonings are good too. And I have discovered that my old favorite, Cape Cod, are also gluten and corn free.
  21. My symptoms are mostly skin related too. Well, that plus unbearable insomnia. I have found that when I get glutened or corned (corn is a BIG problem for me), by the next day my psoriasis is already flaring, and by the NEXT night, I can't sleep. Once the source of the "poisoning" is removed, within about two days my psorasis STARTS to heal (takes weeks before...
  22. The lump is on the jawbone itself, halfway between my chin and the hinge. It is hard as a rock. The doctors said is wasn't a gland, they believe it is a growth, or possibly a bone infection. When it first started they put me on some really nasty antibiotics. I was on Clyndamiacin (sp.) for two weeks, then a different one whose name I can't remember, for an...
  23. I saw the thread on TMJ yesterday but didn't want to hijack it. I have had (for the last five years) a very swollen and painful jaw. I have seen two different dentists who both said it is not caused by a tooth, three different MD's who had no idea unless I get an MRI (no insurance so that's out.) plus several holistic healers and some assorted quacks that...

    ARCHIVED Eggs?

I have always loved eggs. I was very sick when I was born and the first three years of my life were touch and go. About the only thing they could get me to eat was eggs. I figure my body needed the nutrition that was in them and that's why I craved them. Since starting the diet, it seems I don't LIKE them anymore! They don't make me sick or anything. I...
  25. I threw my TV away back in the early 80's because of how insulting it was to my intelligence and my moral values. But I just chimed in to CBS, and I attatched a link to this post so they will know how we ALL feel!
