  1. Oh thank you, Addy! Thank you!!! I only have one stainless pan but I love it. (It was Mom's so that makes me love it even more.) I will be doing this tonight! I will be eating eggs for breakfast every morning now instead of my ice cream because I want to try ditching dairy for a while. This is just in time!
  2. He he he...I just looked it up and found the same website you just posted. I'm wondering if it would work on stainless steel. When I worked in restaurants we cooked on stainless that cleaned up more easily then brand new teflon. Don't have any idea what it was coated with but I sure wish I had some. Maybe if I did, I could give "George" a vacation.
  3. Wasn't there a thread a while back about how to re-season cast iron using only a certain kind of oil and doing it in very thin layers several times? I wouldn't think the regular way of reseasoning would work, but what do I know? I used to use cast iron but gave it up a long time ago because it was so HEAVY. I'm a lousy cook anyway. If I can't cook it on the...
  4. I'd give it another month or two, then if you still think there might be a problem, start an elimination diet. In the meantime, keep a food diary and see if you notice gastro problems after any particular food. Sometimes it can be hard to tell because you may be one who reacts right away or you may be one who doesn't react until two days later. But after...
  5. "Basically, if it isn't made of glass or metal (is porous) then it is suspect." Except for cast iron. Cast iron is is pourous so it must be replaced too. As for the cutting boards, if you really want to sand them, make sure you sand them so deeply that ANY cuts are completely gone. Personally I would just buy new ones to use and leave the built-in...

    ARCHIVED Newly Dx'd

There are about 300 different symptoms of celaic and even the same symptom can vary from person to person. What's cool is that your problem should start clearing up after a while, AND you will most likely notice other things you didn't even know were symptoms clearing up. For example, I had no idea that my insomnia was caused by celiac, but it was. So...
  7. Lately I have seen a lot of posts from newbies looking for a way to go quickly. Some want to get past the withdrawal phase, some want to eliminate other foods that they may potentially have intolerances to, even though at first we can get sick from eating just about anything. Some are impatient and want to feel better immediately. Some want to start eating...
  8. Also, when first going gluten-free one usually goes through withdrawal which can be absolutely miserable. It's best to get that out of the way before trying to decide if one has further intolerances because withdrawal can mimic an intolerance.
  9. Give yourself a few months on the gluten-free diet before trying this. Most likely the gluten-free diet will clear up your problems, but if not you can try a candida diet later. By then you will have a clearer idea of which foods bother you (if any besides gluten), and you can tailor your diet to suit your needs and still get enough nutrition.
  10. If you have been eating fish and non-gmo soy all along as your sources of protein, I don't see how it could be a problem. Have you increased the amount of these things since going gluten-free? I suppose there COULD be such a thing as too much fish simply because of the danger of contaminants - you know, mercury, pcbs, and if your fish comes from the pacific...
  11. I'm sure it was the collander. Don't beat yourself up over it, things like that are bound to happen at first. Replace any plastic or wooden kitchen implements and maybe reread the newbie 101 thread. I hope you feel better soon. ((((HUGS))))
  12. Yes, it is common. I have been gluten-free for over two years and I just had a dream about sneaking some pancakes the other night. Last week I dreamed I was asking my Mom's advice about being gluten-free. (Mom had celiac) In my dream she didn't want to talk about it and I was hurt. I think THAT one stems from the guilt I still feel for thinking she was a...
  13. If you type "kissing" into the search box you will find plenty of threads, such as this one: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/100045-first-kiss/?hl=%2Bkissing#entry855186
  14. It's your choice but I will tell you that I had had insomnia most of my life, went gluten-free and it got even worse for about three weeks or so, then resolved. I now sleep like a baby. I never used melatonin or any other sleep-aids so I can't advise you on that.
  15. I'm going to say this again: You're giving up a lot of things at once - gluten, dairy, weed, and coffee. (COFFEE!!???) Your body is in withdrawal from all four of those things. It's to be expected that you feel lousy right now. PLUS, you have gotten glutened three times in the past month and this early into the diet as far as withdrawal goes, you are...
  16. If gluten were just an irritant to your digestive system an occasional glutening wouldn't be that bad, but each time you get glutened it sets off an immune response. It's like the difference between sneezing from sniffing pepper and sneezing because you have a virus. The pepper irritates your sinuses and so does the virus, but the virus also makes your whole...
  17. You could also mention that if you eat gluten he could get sick from just kissing you unless you brush your teeth really well first, and that you want to be able to kiss him spontaniously.
  18. You mean people actually use something other than their sleeve?
  19. I dated a guy once who had lost a leg in a motorcycle accident. If I opened a door for him he would get mad and say, "I'm not helpless!" But if I didn't get the door for him he would say, "I've only got one leg you know, why don't you help me?" I think that sums it up pretty well. Your boyfriend wants your help and attention, but when you give it to him it...
  20. You're giving up a lot of things at once - gluten, dairy, weed, and coffee. (COFFEE!!???) Your body is in withdrawal from all four of those things. It's to be expected that you feel lousy right now. PLUS, you have gotten glutened three times in the past month and this early into the diet as far as withdrawal goes, you are starting at square one each time...
  21. My husband's friend Chuck always told his wife and me that women were MUCH smarter than men. Think about it for a few minutes and then tell me who was smart. I have never sabotaged myself (except in my dreams), but I think we have all had at least a whisper of temptation from time to time. Chalk it up to experience and get back on that horse.
  22. I'm better today. Glad the bug was of the 24 hour variety. But NOW I'm on the hunt for a good gluten-free, corn-free, soy-free pancake recipe!

    ARCHIVED Scared

That soy COULD be what is doing it. I can't tolerate even the slightest bit of soy. And just about ALL soy in the US is now GMO. Besides that, doesn't Ensure have a bunch of corn syrup in it?
  24. I usually break something. OH, you mean how to STOP being moody? I try really hard to zone out on whatever is in front of me. For example, if I'm in a long line at the grocery store and the cashier is moving in slow motion while the person she is waiting on can't decide whether or not to put something back, and I feel like exploding, I just look at what...
  25. Have you read the Newbie 101 thread? It will teach you about sources of cross-contamination you may not have thought of. For example, if you use mayo in that homemade chicken salad, did you know you need a new and dedicated to you alone jar of mayo? (If a knife was dipped into that jar just ONE TIME after it touched gluten bread, the whole jar is contaminated...
