  1. AliveAndWell, I think others will back me up on this: I have been very supportive of most every person I have ever posted to. I am always ready to give the benefit of the doubt to people and have gone out of my way to explain things when someone was having a hard time understanding. But if you had read the OP's first post BEFORE she had edited it you would...
  2. Well, I am almost 20 years past 40, so I don't know if it counts, but I would like to learn clawhammer banjo. (I play Scruggs style now.) I'd like to get better on harp. I'd like to take voice lessons. I WILL get my original songs copyrighted soon and then start pushing them. (I would love it if Chris McNulty recorded one of my songs - if you have never heard...
  3. No, Hon, I have not given you "attitude". What I have done is respond to your post honestly. You even went back and edited your original post because you knew that saying he was making your relationship "boring" and that you "couldn't take it" sounded bad. If you look around here at different threads you will find that many of us have had problems with family...
  4. "I have changed my diet to a completley gluten free diet as we live together, and i clean the house at least once a week with vinegar to kill most of the gluten particles, he is that sensitive. I just feel right now he is letting his disease define him and monitor the things he does in his life and I think celiac disease has killed his spontaneity and I just...
  5. Stevia for a sweetener? I don't know about carob - haven't tried it. Chocolate seems to bother me though. I still think salicylates are bothering me so carob is probably out. (I had a Lara bar yesterday, the one with nothing in it but cashews and dates. Had a bad reaction and I know cashews don't bother me so it must have been the dates. The sals forum lists...
  6. No soy and no corn. Oh, and I'm off of dairy and sugar right now too. Let's see, what does that leave? Not MUCH!! Guess I'll have to wait a while until I get some of these things back.
  7. Well, I've never been called psychic although a few people have called me psych-O. How about you send me some of those baked goodies and I'll tell you if I think you can make money selling them?
  8. I'm going to be blunt. If you had a disease, let's say asthma, and he thought it was too "hard" to give up smoking around you or wearing his favorite cologne, if he found it difficult to plan activities for fear you might be exposed to perfumes or smoke, or pollen, or whatever else triggered you asthma, if he thought your relationship were BORING because...
  9. I drink Folgers every day at the shop. (I save the Dunk's for home.) I've never had a problem with either.
  10. Before I opened my shop I used to give guitar lessons out of my home. Made a darned good living too. Mom used to make and decorate wedding cakes before she got sick. Then she started making afgans and sweaters and baby clothes. She made a lot of money once she got going. I have a friend who makes jewelry and sells it on consignment at a local jewelry...

    ARCHIVED Outback

So I went to Rapid City yesterday and ate at Outback. I guess this is my "restaurant review". First off, I did NOT get sick. I explained to the waiter that I also have a corn "allergy" It's actually an intolerance, but I figured he's take it more seriosly if I called it an allergy. I told him my choice of gluten-free was not due to the new trend, but...
  12. Hey Fartypants! It's good to see you! I was about to send out a search party. I hope you were away on vacation and having a wonderful time, but I'm glad you're back.
  13. I'm SO glad I live where I do. Our newspaper's police report is the best part of reading the paper - because it is usually so funny! For example, this week there was a guy who called the cops to report seeing a car that had obviously been in an accident. The police responded and found, "the car had not been in an accident. It was just falling apart." There...
  14. Envelope adhesive MAY however, contain corn. So any of you who have a corn intolerance or allergy should continue to use water instead of licking them.
  15. My feet used to swell terribly. Even though I keep my sneakers so loose I can barely tie them because the laces are too short from keeping them loose, by the end of the day they were tight and I couldn't wait to get them off. That improved a lot, but lately it has come back. That is why I am giving up dairy for a while. I KNOW I am not getting glutened or...
  16. What kind of nuts were they? ALL of their "regular" nuts - salted cashews, almonds, peanuts, pistachios, and even walnuts have only,"manufactured in a facility that processes peanuts and tree nuts". That means they are safe. They are made in facilities that do NOT process gluten at all. I'm not sure about the dry roasted or flavored nuts, but if you want...
  17. Thank you, Addy!
  18. Steph, I'm not sure but I think it costs a lot more to test down to 5 PPM. If they made that their standard the prices would go through the roof and many companies would probably stop doing gluten-free altogether. Karen, I hope that's not the case. I would think from what I read that the only ingredients they would be allowed to serve have to be gluten...
  19. So if a restaurant wants to claim something as gluten-free they have to have ingredients that are gluten-free according to the new rules. BUT, once they have cross contaminated it with their unsafe practices, all bets are off. Kind of like now - oh yeah, the fries are gluten-free, but with no dedicated fryer, they become contaminated. Oh well.
  20. Vegetables, especially raw veggies like salad greens, have so much fiber they are hard to digest. You know how corn usually shows up the next morning in the bowl? Salads used to be the same way for me - I wasn't digesting them at all - not the lettuce, nor the carrots, nor...well, you get the idea. And the reason your body gets "sicker" while you are...
  21. Hon, I never ate many veggies before either. When I started eating a lot of them I had terrible trouble. They are hard to digest compared to the burgers and fries I used to live on. So I just added a few, and I only ate them in small amounts at first.
  22. My Mom wasn't diagnosed until she was in her 50's and I believe she had it since birth. She DID have permanent damage. Her villi were not just flattened, they were essentialy GONE. They grew back somewhat, but not to normal levels. She had to have vitamin injections monthly because she couldn't absorb enough from her food. All my life I thought Mom was...
  23. Yeah, you're probably right. They'll make companies do it, but they'll probably let restaurants continue poisoning people.
  24. 20PPM is standard for the industry. It's really hard to test for less than that so most certified gluten-free foods are labled 20PPM or less. (MOST celiacs are fine with that amount but there are some super sensitives who can't tolerate it.) So what this law will be doing is essentially making all companies who claim to have gluten-free products either...
