  1. Could I offer a different opinion? As some celiacs DO react to oats, and as lot's of oats ARE CC'd, I would think the doctor was being thorough and cautious and caring, and sounds well educated about celiac. How many times have we complained about doctors who don't even believe in celiac? This one MAY just be looking to make a few extra bucks on testing...
  2. I didn't toss mine in a salad, I tossed mine in the garbage can. I can't stand the stuff! I'm glad you like it though because it's supposed to be really good for you.
  3. I just found out that our little town will be getting a MacDonald's by September. Although most people in town will probably rejoice, I won't. Not only won't I eat there (whether they have truly gluten-free food or not) because I'd rather eat whole foods, but I am sure there will be people throwing their trash out the windows of their cars.
  4. Testing isn't very reliable. The best way to test is to do an elimination diet. Have you been to Open Original Shared Link ? They give lists of foods with their sals levels. For example, yes, spices are usually high in sals but you CAN have garlic. And although most fruits and all berries have rather high levels, you can eat bananas and pears if you peel...
  5. I'm not sure if my problem with asperin and other NSAIDs is a true allergy or just an intolerance. The last time I had any I was so sick anyway I couldn't tell. (Rash, extreme pain, and a cold verging on bronchitis.) I DO know that my jaw pain (unrelated to celiac) becomes UNBEARABLE when I am exposed and my psoriasis flares badly. It's been a year since...
  6. I didn't give up my coffee. I will NEVER give up my coffee!!!! I miss blueberries so much and I bet if I gave up coffee I'd be able to tolerate them once in a while, but even my beloved blueberries aren't worth giving up coffee for. One thing to keep in mind - after you have been gluten-free for a while you might be able to tolerate more things. Don't...
  7. Well, because I have been so busy working seven 10 hour days a week, I broke down and bought an Against the Grain pizza at the health food store. It was a plain cheese pizza so I also bought some of my Mulay's gluten-free sausages. I cooked the sausage this morning and sliced it thin, then put it on the pizza and baked it. I just ate some and it was SO good...
  8. I have figured out what my "load" is - the amount of sals I can tolerate. I can eat a small amount of sweet potato a day. That would be one small one, one half of a medium one, or one third of a really large one. I can eat broccoli too, but not on the same day as sweet potato. That is about the only high sals food I eat. The rest is meat, cheese, cauliflower...
  9. No, Raven, I have only had a migraine twice in my life. Once was when I was 12, and once was when I was 45. The first time the doctor thought it was related to mumps I had just gotten over. The second one, they thought it was related to my eyes - I was borderline glaucoma and they thought my pressure was spiking. I went in to be examined on an emergency basis...
  10. I just read on another thread that someone smelled amonia sometimes. Well that made me realize that it's been a long time since I smelled automotive exhaust fumes when there really weren't any. Some days were worse than others. I would be here at the shop and it smelled to me as if someone had parked a running car in here. I would go looking and sniffing...
  11. First of all, have you read the Newbie 101 thread? That will help you to avoid cross-contamination, plus a lot of other things. Whole foods are gluten-free. Chicken, beef, pork, fish (as long as they aren't "processed". Potatoes, sweet potatoes, fruits and veggies. Rice. Spices (but not all seasoning mixes). If you must buy processed foods such as salad...
  12. I think scrambled would be stinkier than over easy. Of course personally, I just LOVE runny yolks. I used to make the BEST egg sandwiches. I used cheap hamburg buns with tons of butter on both sides, egg with runny yolk, lots of extra sharp cheddar melted on them, two slices of bacon cooked crispy and crumbled. You had to eat them upside down so you could...
  13. Now THAT'S my kind of recipe! THANKS!!!
  14. Here's the thing - even if you aren't getting any gluten, DH reacts to iodine. If those Frito's have iodized salt, that could be your answer. Have you been over to the DH section here? I think you should go look at some of the pictures folks have posted and compare your rash to those, then read as much info as you can. Ask lots of questions. Maybe it's NOT...
  15. OK, so I have decided that since I got potatoes back, maybe I can eat tomatoes now too. I want to try making a pizza using the cauliflower crust. The problem is, a lot of cans are now lined with the corn-based plastic and I don't want to take a chance on that. (I got sick from a corn-based plastic water bottle.) So, how do I make a sauce using fresh tomatoes...
  16. Did your derm take a biopsy of CLEAR skin right next to an ACTIVE lesion? From what I have read here, a lot of dermatologists don't know how to do a DH biopsy correctly.
  17. OW! If it is along the grain it really won't hurt anything. You could take a couple or three pieces of cotton fabric (not t-shirt material - use the non stretchy type men's dress shirts are made of), cut them with pinking shears, then use some hot hyde glue and put them across on the inside like band-aids. When the glue dries it will shrink the fabric and...
  18. My strongest symptom is psoriasis. All of these (corn, soy, and salicylates) make it flare badly. When I can avoid them (and gluten of course) for a long time, it completely heals. I get "loose" from all of them, but gluten seems to be the only thing that gives me "Get out of the way! Emergency!" D.
  19. I used to be able to eat Udi's bread but lost it again when I lost cornstarch. Right now the only processed food I eat is the Mulay's sausage and a sugar sweetened (instead of corn syrup) vanilla ice cream. Well, cheese and butter are processed too, and I eat them. Other than that I only eat chicken, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower...
  20. Hard cheeses don't have lactose, just casein. Have you tried cheddar? Some of the folks here who can't do milk or yogurt do just fine with hard cheese. I'm in the most beautiful place on the planet, what the Lakota Sioux called "the center of the universe" - the Black Hills of South Dakota. It's where Mount Rushmore is although as spectacular as Mount...
  21. Wow, Lisa! That must be awful! LOBSTER??!!! CRAB???!!! I love oysters too, but they are a lot easier to give up than lobster and crab. My favorite seafood of all is shrimp, followed by crab, followed by lobster. Of course I can't get those here. All the seafood for sale in this little town comes from China, and I won't eat that. But if I drive 120 miles...
  22. Here's the pizza crust thread. Enjoy! https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/101668-pizza-made-of-cauliflower-no-flour/#entry868859
  23. Somebody posted the recipe for the cauliflower pizza crust here on the board a week or two ago. It's probably in the recipe section. I'll see if I can find the link. If you can't eat tomatoes you could always make a white pizza. You can use ricotta cheese or even cottage cheese instead of tomato sauce. Sprinkle some garlic and whatever other spices you...
  24. Hi right back! I'm not going NEAR corn for now. I MIGHT have gotten corn starch back again like I did before, but corn hurts me too much to even think of trying it. I miss the Udi's, but it's not worth the pain. You heard I got white potatoes back? That's a biggie for me. I LOVE white potatoes. Going to try tomato sauce next i think. If I get brave...
  25. I had a full blown allergic reaction to oysters and my doctor told me that if a person is going to react to any shellfish, oysters are the most likely one. He also told me that often, if a person reacts badly to oysters they will then react to other shellfish. Thank GOD that didn't happen to me!
