  1. It sounds like you've been through an awful lot? Be assertive about the Celiac testing. I had all sorts of symptoms for years! I was given a few tests here and there..but nothing was diagnosed. i got that label of hypochondriac. Even when I got so sick I couldn't eat my Dr. told me to "eat Tums".. Finally, I started dropping weight and a lot of additional...
  2. I take Calcium Citrate with D a multi-vitamin 2 Fish oil capsules B complex with C CoQ-10 200mg Folic acid Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc combo pill Glucosamine Chondroitin with MSM L-Glutamine Probiotics Digestives enzymes when eating anything I think will be hard to digest Melatonin to sleep some Hmmm..that looks like a lot doesn't...
  3. I've felt like there's something really wrong with me. My GI and PCP told me that I should eat gluten-free and I'll feel fine. I don't feel fine. It's been about 3.5 monhs for me. I still get gallbladder-like pains, tingling in my right shoulder blade and burp ups after eating. I know I'm not eating gluten, but those symptoms remain. Most of the time...
  4. I'm so glad you're feeling better! You should continue to gain good health if you stay strictly gluten free. I know at first one of your worst symptoms was anxiety and racing heart. That's scary. I'm glad that's resolving.
  5. For me it depends on the amount ingested. If it's soy lethicin..D, pain in lower right side of abdomen followed by joint pain. Higher amounts can make me dizzy, nauseated, get a migraine, makes me severely sleepy(like I'd been drugged)the day after, followed by the other symptoms listed above. It's sneaky too! I find it in all kinds of things that would...
  6. Bubba's Mom, I did have an endoscope with biopsy. I have patchy areas of atrophy in the duodenum, but the pathologist said the villi were fine. I had no other testing done, including genetic because my GI said it couldn't be celiac. She never explained the atrophy and isn't even concerned about that or the malabsorption. She just said IBS and wrote me a prescription...
  7. I'm happy to see that you can go after all! Have a great trip.
  8. We are still learning here 3.5months into it. I dish my food up first from the stove and walk away while my hubby gets his bread and butter, etc. I made breakfast for supper last night. I had sliced up an orange and had the plate sitting on the counter. Hubby made his toast and ended up with crumbs all over the oranges. Once I had eaten my eggs I went out...
  9. I told my grown sons they should be tested. They both have symptoms..and both refuse. My sister has Crohn's disease which cannot be put into remission. She has to get IV therapy every 6 weeks. I told her she should be tested. She mentioned it to her Dr. and he said "there's no special diet for Crohn's." I've sent her links that I've found about...
  10. There's a Celiac Treatment Center in Sunnyvale Ca. Maybe you could contact them and see if they know of anyone in your area? Open Original Shared Link
  11. Were blood panels drawn to test your vitamin/mineral levels? If yes, get copies of the results so you can track your levels and see if you need to suppliment. If the tests weren't done..ask for them to be. Ask for a copy of the biopsy report. How bad is your damage? Should you be taking digestive enzymes or probiotics? Ask for a written RX to be on...
  12. I was on the food.com site earlier today looking up recipes and this topic was there. They suggested using a 6oz.can of tomato paste diluted with 2 cups milk.
  13. You can get a false negative with blood tests..but not false positive. If your numbers show that you are having an immune response to gluten there's no need to go through an endoscope procedure for a biopsy. You are Celiac. My Dr. gave me my DX after doing the endoscope (my blood test was negative). She said "you have Celiac Sprue. Don't eat gluten. Look...
  14. I'm sure as you read the posts here you find that most of us have had issues for years. We have been given some tests..but not the important one..the test for Celiac. OR some people test negative on the blood tests and aren't given the endoscope (the gold standard for DX). In my case..my blood work came back negative. The endoscope showed villous flattening...
  15. I guess my feelings would be more like Takala's? I wouldn't attend the shower after getting such a berating for simply wanting make sure you could attend and not be poisoned by the food. I *might* attend the wedding, but would bring my own food.
  16. We like a combo of zucchini, summer squash, and mushrooms sauteed in a bit of olive oil. Sprinkle generously with garlic powder and pour over cooked pasta. Another good one..brown some bulk sausage breaking it apart as you cook it. Toss on a heavy layer of sliced cabbage, followed by a heavy dusting of garlic powder. Put a lid on the pan and let the...
  17. I'd be suspicious of the soy. Once I went gluten-free I found I was reacting to even very small amounts like soy lethicin. If I ingest it I get bad pain in my belly, GERD, too. I've cut that from my diet and the pain went away. Your Dr.s DX might be correct, but in a lot of cases they don't have answers as to why something happens. They seem to prefer...
  18. Drink lots of water too! You want to flush your system. Write what you had and from where in your food log, along with symptoms. This will pass.
  19. I would recommend you go to your Dr. ASAP and ask for the gluten panel blood test. Your Dr. can advise you from there. Yes..acid reflux can mean Celiac, but there can be other causes as well. I had it bad for several years. I went on various RX meds and one by one they quit working. Once going gluten-free it stopped. Now if I accidently get cc it's...
  20. Yes..there seems to be some gluten in the gluten-free flour. I've seen quite a few people say they react to BRM products.
  21. I would recommend trying to just eat whole foods like fruit, vegetables, non processed meat, and dairy if you tollerate it well to start with. It's best not to go out and get a bunch of gluten-free versions of things, like baked goods and such at first. Those have some hard to digest starches in them, and can contain some small amounts of gluten, along...
  22. I think there's a typo in that link? At one place it says 200ppm, rather than 20ppm. Even with that in mind the poster is saying the amount would be similar in size to 1/4 a grain of rice. That's for the entire day! If small amounts are consumed several times a day from various gluten-free replacement foods, it's easy to see that most of us are going to...
  23. I went to a gluten free bakery called Organic Bliss. My first time having anything not made by myself since my DX 3.5 months ago. I had been sticking with whole foods mostly. I got a variety of cookies, and 3 scones. I had a scone with tea that afternoon, and after supper I had 2 cookies. A short while later I started getting hyper and spent a whole night...
  24. That "acceptable" 20ppm is a tricky thing. Does anybody really know what that amount would look like? I don't. If using a cutting board or scratched cookware or colander that was previously used for gluten AND has been washed can have enough gluten to dose us..it makes it pretty clear that we have to be VERY careful? We wash our rinsed dishes in a...
  25. I hear ya! Look how long it took to realize trans-fat was bad for us. It went into the food system in World War II and it's just been a couple of years that they realized the human body couldn't process it properly. It's inflamatory properties caused a lot of heart disease and diabetes. I'm sure they'll come to realize that so much corn and corn/syrup...
