ARCHIVED Share Your Culture
AVR1962 replied to navigator's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am an American. My family heritage is Swedish on my mom's side, Scottish (Watt) on my dad's side. My great grand parents lived in Sweden, moved to the US and met, married and settled with their 11 children. They didn't want their children (my grandmother) to learn the Swedish language and left everything in Sweden behind them. Having been raised by Swedish... -
The pain that you are referring to in your back sounds like it could be the sciatic nerve. Have you spoke to a doc about this? The sciatic nerve can make your legs and feet go numb, you can have numbing in your bladder/bowel area. If you find yourself losing feeling in the bladder area though you really need to be seen by a doc. I'll have nerve pain all the...

ARCHIVED Still Itchy, Sad, But Hopeful

I so do understand. Those very words and very thoughts have been in my own head. A diagnosis really does change the way a person looks at life now and how they see their past. Good thing you have done is realized it, grieved and released and I can tell by your post you are planning to move fwd with a new life, once that you have not had before, this is awesome... -
Don't let this go. Assuming you have not had a recent back injury that could be causing your issues, it does sound to me like you may have nerve neuropathy issues, more than likely due to a lack of absortion. Makes sure you ask for your lab results if doc says your vit levels are good. I would be concerned about the B12 especially. I had terrible burning...

ARCHIVED Twitching In Fingers - Neuro Or Ortho?
AVR1962 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Doctors
Hi Marilyn, it was me with the signature (instead of Prickly) that has the issues with guar gum, carrageenan, high fructose and xanthan gum. That was actually why I targetted the candy, they all mess me up for about 3 days....vertigo, digestive issues. Thanks for sharing about the nerve damage and the tests you have undergone. Sounds like you are doing... -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed, Looking For Hope/help
AVR1962 replied to lesquee's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Erin welcome. It does take awhile for the system to get back on track and most times alot of healing has to take place. You mentioned heartburn and that could mean that you had alot of acid in your stomach which does alot of damage. If that is still an issue you will need to take steps to protect your stomach. If not on meds, use Pepto before ou eat foods... -
Tough questions and I am not expert but I have dealt with gluten ataxia for 9 months, and amazing as this may seem I am a piano instructor. The part of the gluten ataxia that I feel the article may be indicating was how the muscle for balance are affected. I would walk into a room and hit my shoulders on the doorjams. Or I would get out of bed and try to...

ARCHIVED Twitching In Fingers - Neuro Or Ortho?
AVR1962 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Doctors
Oh boy, Halloween candy! So many things in candy you could be having a reaction to, unfortunately. I've pretty much had to eliminate it. It could be the sugar that'd causing the shaking. Could be high fructose or lactose in the candy that's upsetting your stomach. The hands really sound like they might benefit from either potassium and/or Omgea. The forearm... -

AVR1962 replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You mentioned you are not eating spicy foods but what are the herbs you are using, if any? Oregano gives me terrible issues. Are you taking in an bell peppers? That's another one that can cause issues. Sounds like you really need something to coat your stomach. If Pepto makes you sick I think I would look for something else. What about Tums or Rolaids? Something... -
ARCHIVED Your Celiac History :)
AVR1962 replied to eborzecki's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For me one of my first symptoms that something was not right was my vision which was blurred and sometimes double. I was also getting progressively more tired, then stomach issues (not real bad but I know something was bothering me). I did a liver cleanse to try and boost my metabolism and that's when it revieled itself. I had gone off gluten before I was... -
Goodness, our situations are similiar. Hard to look back sometimes, isn't it? I am glad we're both doing much better!

ARCHIVED So How Did It Start With You
AVR1962 replied to Chad Sines's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I knew something was wrong 2 years prior....vision was blurring, sometimes double. I was also having digestive issues and could not figure it out, very tired and docs thought it was age. However, it was an overnight WHAM that got me. Because I had been so tired I did a liver cleanse which basically revieled my underlying health issues. My body finally... -
ARCHIVED Fatigue In A High Amount
AVR1962 replied to beautifulmemories's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Common problem and I did not read all the responses here but lack of proper amounts of magnesium, iron and vit d can cause also fatigue along with your B12. I was having a real hard time with it and my vits were helping but I found a big difference when I started putting foods high in vit D and B12 in my diet and spending more time outside. If you ahve not... -
Wow! As bad as it sounds, it's nice to know that someone else knows exactly what I have dealt with. I was running into doorjams. I would get out of bed and instead of my body tracking straight it would track left as I was trying to make it go right. I mentioned this to my doc and he acted baffled. You hang in there too IrishHeart!!

ARCHIVED Suspected Celiac
AVR1962 replied to driekus's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You asked how important the diagnosis is.....with your own medical knowledge, you probably all ready know that tests are not real reliable. Many of us here that had more neuro issues than digestive did not get the diagnosis the traditional way, myself included. I knew gluten was my issues and I wasn't needing a doc to tell me what I was or was not feeling... -
Yes, it does feel good! Nine months, every day all day long, my balance was off. My eyes are improving with the help of the cod liver oil so I am no longer blinded by the bright yellow leaves on the ground. I actually have energy and have been in the yard doing clean-up before weather gets too cold. It feels absolutely awesome. Be strict with your diet...

ARCHIVED Soda/caffeine
AVR1962 replied to aking3028's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Soda, no matter who makes it, is the most acidic beverage you can buy, with a pH of about 2.51, about the same as vinegar, but the sugar content disguises the acidity. To put that into perspective, consider that battery acid has a pH of 1 and pure water has a pH level of 7. Experiemtns have been done where you pour soda on the posts of a car battery and it... -
ARCHIVED How Soon After Eating Dairy Do Lactose Symptoms Start?
AVR1962 replied to pretordan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For me, I know it is lactose as soon as it hits my stomach which is within a half hour.....stomach starts gurling and popping and making awful noise. What is in Lucky Charms? Is there no wheat? Yu could be ahving issues with both luten and dairy, not uncommon. -
I'm not doubting that it could be soy but check the other ingredients also. In some of the nondairy milk they have carrageenan and xanthan gum that really do a number on my system. Sorry you're feeling bad, hopefully it will pass soon!

ARCHIVED Twitching In Fingers - Neuro Or Ortho?
AVR1962 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Doctors
This is a good question, one I have asked myself. For me, my issues are on my left. Do you ahve any cramping in the fingers/hands or sharp pains in the joints? My hands will cramp up sometimes and I find burpless Omega 3,6,9 helps. I was getting terrible sharps pains in the joint where I had an old fracture and started taking BioSil drops which helped that... -
Is your diet completely gluten free? Are you reading labels and know all the wrods to look for? If you feel the gluten is not the problem and still having issues with the stomach I would suspect dairy.

ARCHIVED Help
AVR1962 replied to collgwg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Chicken soup is a life saver. There is something in the chicken broth from a boiled chicken that really helps. Boil you up a chicken for about an hour, save that broth and us it for your soup. You can put in what you can eat. Sometimes when the body just gets the icks, I find this as my solution. I hope you get to feeling better.
