ARCHIVED Neuropathy
AVR1962 replied to JanaC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I finally got enough in my system, and I think that's why the others were not working for me, it took about 10 days before it went away. For me, I have tried twice now to cut back to half of the amounts and within 7-10 days the symptoms are back. The arthritic pain in the knuckles? Is it a sharp quick pain or a swollen, inflammed pain? I have found... -
ARCHIVED Depression/anxiety/brain Fog

You may have just nailed it......if your momn was doing the cooking and she was not aware of how careful she needed to be she could have easily CC the food or even put something in that she wasn't aware wasn't good for you. -
Actually I did explain to her that I could not eat bread or wheat, that I had an allergy. She acted too busy to care quite honestly. If she would hve been more receptive I may have pressed further but it was obvious to me she knew nothing about th roats and had no interest in finding out for me.

Last night we had my husband's office Christmas dinner to go to which was a buffet, always prepare myself mentally for eating outside the home. In line I see this pork roast but something is in it so I ask the waitress if it had any wheat or bread and let her know that I cannot have wheat. She looked at me, told me she wan't sure what was in it and then said...

ARCHIVED Neuropathy
AVR1962 replied to JanaC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I have had TERRIBLE burning in my feet, had these pins and needles poking feeling in between in my toes and fingers and even in my eyes which were very painful. I tried B12 that you can buy at the grocery store, no help. Tried a stronger B complex with no results, kept reading. Found out that B12 is hard to absorb into the system without mythl (which... -

Are you still coming into contact with gluten? It takes awhile being totally and completely gluten-free for these symptoms to go away. I have been on a gluten-free diet since April, made lots of mistakes and kept finding myself yoyoing.....it felt like I was taking 2 steps fwd and 1 step back for along time. Along with the exposure to gluten I was having... -

ARCHIVED Neuro Signs
AVR1962 replied to red island's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If the ataxia is directly associated with the gluten you really need to clean up your kitchen, the diet and speak up when going to restuarants or places outside your home. For me, it took getting past 4 weeks with no gluten fopr my dizziness to go away. Unfortunately, that was 9 months after my symptoms started and 6 months on a gluten-free diet....made alot... -

ARCHIVED Update On My Daughter
AVR1962 replied to AMom2010's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sounds like you were seeing improvement on the gluten-free diet. I would suggest trying to be stricter with the diet but the other thing I would suspect is the lactaid milk. You might try taking her off both for a couple weeks and then introduce the milk while off gluten and see if she reacts to milk. Meantime I would not sub the lactaid milk with a lactose... -
I was in the same position as far as not absorbing and then when I did I found myself taking too much D....I was also taking 5000IU daily. Was feeling a little kidney pain but not uncommon for me as I do have issues with my kidneys. I was urinating more frequently and thought I might have a bladder infection but it really didn't feel like an infection. Then...

AVR1962 replied to Hailiesmom08's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I feel for your frustration, it is really hard to deal with these situations. I would ask if you really wanted to put your child thru all of this? I have 4 grandchildren ages 5-11 that are all gluten-free due to the issues that they were having, all doing well off glutens. None of them had the scopes, none of them tested for celiac or gluten intolerance.... -
Could you post the link to the blog?
-
Really? Wow! That has to be rather difficult to deal with. I really hope your husband comes around one day. And I suppose he won't even read about it? THe only thing my husband reads is science fiction or news headlines but anything to help his mind of body, short of crossword puzzles, forget it. He lets the doc continually write out prescriptions for him...

We have had it planted in our heads that whole grains are healthy, eat whole wheat....after a lifetime of these messages it is hard to think that wheat can actually be causing our problem. I am glad you decided to try a gluten-free diet. I think you are correct, my husband is still very much in denial for himself.
-
I would request a vit test from your doc to make sure where your vit levels are. I was having problems with hair loss and found zinc and BioSil drops worked for me. I know someone who used Evening Primrose oil tabs that worked. It is possible you have more than just a need for these as far as nutrients though.

Goodness, I guess we all have those "fun" family situations. I know if I say too much my family is going to think I lost my mind but like you, you are living proof of what life can be without gluten. You have been such help to me and so many here with all your knowledge and experience. I hope you won't let your family bring you down with their negative thoughts...
-
Good for you!!! I will continue to try and implant info to my husband. I really beleive wheat is probably more of an issue than he wants to even entertian at this point. It's great to hear a success story with the asthma and diabetes. My dad has asthma and athritis so I passed the link onto him as well.
-
Sorry to hear about your dad. Change is hard, definately! Those of us that get sick enough from our symptoms and have become desperate are the ones forced into our changes.
-
My point really is more about the shocking amount of denial. My husband knows exactly what wheat does to meand he has seen the improvment in my health. He just doesn't feel it applies to him. I don't prepare anything that is not gluten-free so all our desserts, pastas, etc that I make are without gluten. No one in the house has a problem with that. Husband...

ARCHIVED Are Spanish Olives Gluten Free? Love My Dirty Martinis!
AVR1962 replied to Nichelob's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Olives do not have gluten!!! However, if you find yourself itching, they do contain salicylates which make some people itchy. -
Yes, infact when all my symptoms came to a head and docs knew something was wrong they first (after being told it was stress and age) doc had me reading on parathyroidism, my blood calcium was high, I have existing kidney stones and he thought that probably one of my parathyroid glands was bad. Simple right? Remove the gland and all was going to be okay again...

You are so on target with your response. And I think that is something I have to remind myself of....when they facts are layed out and their is still a refusal or denial, all you can do is accept. Thanks for your reply!
