Since my last glutening at a restaurant over a dish I was uncertain of and getting terribly sick, I have been preparing myself for what happened last night as it was just a matter of time. I normally get a a salad but all this place had was side salads. As I read thru the menu I saw only one dish that didn't list a sauce with it which was lamb. I asked the...

ARCHIVED Gut Healing Support
AVR1962 replied to meinelse's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you really want to concentrate on healing your gut, you really do need to avoid dairy. Realize it is not forever, it is only temp. I would definately invest in a good quality probiotic, not the stuff that sits on grocery store shelves. You need to build the good bacteria and the probiotics will help you with that. Are you taking vit supplements for your... -
ARCHIVED 6 Months After Gluten Free Diet - Misdiagnosis ?
AVR1962 replied to eazyeazy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would say that the diagnosis is probably good. It sounds to me like you could be dealing with a vit deficiency. Vits b and c contribute to our skin. Vits B12 & 6, magnesium, iron, and d can cause fatigue. -

ARCHIVED Losing My Mind
AVR1962 replied to Tame82's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just read you are deployed. This is going to make my advise a bit harder. You can still avoid gluten in the chow hall and if interested in the supplements perhaps a family member would be kind enough to send them to you. No need to be concerned about your random urine tests with the supplements. My husband was AF 27 years and was scared to death to take anything... -
ARCHIVED Losing My Mind
AVR1962 replied to Tame82's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tim, your symptoms are very much what I was experiencing. I had some digestive issues but what stood out was the lack of concentration and memory, the pain in my feet (pins and needles), vertigo, blurred vision/double vision, bug crawling sensation on the skin, muscle spasms, etc. Sound familiar? This is nerve damage from a lack of vitamin and mineral absorbtion... -
ARCHIVED What Am I Eating?!?
AVR1962 replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There's several things there that may be giving you issues. Coconuts are on the salicylate list and coconut milk has xantham gum which can give a person issues. I do not do well with coconut milk. The mayo more than likely contains soy. Unless the cereal is labeled gluten-free that coud be an issue. And I would give up the Splenda for save measures, too... -
If I were waiting on advise from my doc, I would still be sick, seriously. Sounds to me like something is creeping into your diet still either thru CC with something.....kitchen, food items you're not aware of OR it is something new. One thought is high fructose. For me it gives me the same symptoms as gluten. Also, check out a high salicylate food list....

ARCHIVED Gluten Enzymes - Experience/reviews?
AVR1962 replied to Leper Messiah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have tried a couple different products. They are to be take them just before a meal like you would with lactose pills. For me what it did help was the digestive issues but it did not stop the dizziness that I get from gluten. -
ARCHIVED New Here.. Results Tomorrow!
AVR1962 replied to Yvette1205's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yvette, try not to panic about the results. Testing is not real reliable. If the results come back negative you can still try a gluten-free diet as an experiment on your own. This is what I did. Like you, I was sick but docs could not figure out why. So many tests were ran. Good thing about all those tests is it eliminated alot and eventually the docs were... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be A Gluten Reaction?
AVR1962 replied to birdie22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, this is what I get but I will normally get the dizziness about 24 hours after I have consumed gluten and then it last for 3 weeks. It does feel like I have been drinking as far as the balance is concerned. I had terrible burning in my stomach from gluten. Doc put me on Nexium which helped alot. The burning is acid in the stomach so you will need to protect... -
Don't panic, really it is good they are running the test as a precautionary measure. I had so many tests ran. One that blew me away was diabetes but that is something that could be possible with celiacs. Good thing is you have the diagnosis and you move fwd from here. Are you also avoiding dairy right now too? That's a thought on why you might be having...

ARCHIVED Healing... Bowels, Neuropathy, Etc Etc
AVR1962 replied to bny06's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me the digestive issues were not as bad, that cleared up very quickly. I had terrible GERD which took me 5 months to heal from. LOTS of nuero issues which I have been been mega supplementing with vitamins which has helped a great deal. Toughest ones to tackle have been the Ataxia (off balance), buzzing in my ears, vertigo and jumpy eyes which have been... -
ARCHIVED How Much Vitamin D Are You Taking?
AVR1962 replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Weight and degree of deficiency makes sense, something I didn't think about. I too have bone loss in both legs and spine, age 48. I just upped my vit D to 8000. Interesting what you read about high blood pressure and vit D defienciency. That may explains my high blood pressure back in Feb/March, I had never had high blood pressure before. -
Just curious from those who are supplementing, how much vitamin D you are taking in? Have you found a connection to supplementing with vitamin D that has helped with any of your symptoms? Could you specify which symptoms? I think I may have found a link for myself and just curious. I recently increased my D and I actually think it is helping my ataxia. This...

ARCHIVED Anyone Here Live In Germany?
AVR1962 replied to AVR1962's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Wow, really? You are going on gluten right before the trip? Good luck with that. Doc wanted me to do the same, I made it to day 12 and was in terrible agony. 5 weeks, you are a real trouper! Your trip plan sounds fun, enjoy! and best to you with your testing when you get back home. -
You mentioned your stomach is burning. Were you given anything to help that? If you are not taking a prescribed med, try an antacid 20-30 minutes before meal. Even if you have never had acid reflux issues before. It is acid in the stomach that is causing the burning, I had it real bad. If you ahve to take Pepto in between meals do so but you need to protect...

AVR1962 replied to Alex163's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am most certainly more irritable and at times I have wondered why I have gotten so frustrated. To me it is almost like having a slight flu bug in a sense and the energy you expend to do whatever is every ounce of energy you have. You don't feel well and then things, maybe little, can come along and it's too much. How are his vitamin levels? It's not... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free All Purpose Flour
AVR1962 replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Egg noodles are tricky, not all of the flours are the same. You are going to need a mixed flour with xanthan gum in order for your dough not to crumble when you knead it. I have used Bob's Red Mill Pizza crust flour for my noodles and it works well because of the mix and it has the xanthan gum. If you use the all purpose you will have to add xanthan gum.... -

AVR1962 replied to Greg Rappaport's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Greg, did you find out what was cauing your pain. I had a situation recently that I think I connected my issues with. I also had the pain like you were describing. I was the first time around using hot packs on my leg and hot soaks on my foot which actually offered relief and in a few days it went away so I thought that was it. Recently, it started back... -

ARCHIVED Four Months In And Feeling Alone
AVR1962 replied to mollydee88's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think what you are going thru is a very common and understandable feeling. I am 6 months out and have been glutened so many times with mistakes (which teach me to be more careful) that I too have feared that anything I eat could be potentially dangerous. However, while we all aim to never have gluten in our life and to never have to go thru the pain of... -
ARCHIVED Question About Lactose Intolerance
AVR1962 replied to BeFree's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Have you tried aged cheeses? There are alot of aged cheeses that lose their lactose during the aging process. Where I live they are labeled in the cheese section as dairy free. Some cultured yogurts are the same although I think more lactose stays in the yogurt than in the cheese. -

Got to agree with the previous posts here. I too have learned so much from everyone here. It is nice to be able to brainstorm thru my health issues with people who have experienced them first hand. The support and understanding, being able to read others dealing with the same frustrations is all very helpful. 6 months out and I have a way to go. I had been... -
