ARCHIVED Recovery Tips Please?!
AVR1962 replied to GFH33's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You mentioned your stomach is upset every day. Sounds like you need to do something to protect the stomach. If it is a burning use a reflux med eventhough you might not think you have acid reflux. Look at a low acid diet, that will also help med the issues in the stomach. If it is a matter of feeling food is not digesting properly, take smaller portions,... -

ARCHIVED Really Scared- Please Any Advice/experience!?
AVR1962 replied to bny06's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bea's advise is excellent. To me it sounds like your body is depleted of vitamins and minerals and I would say that probably something else is upsetting your system. If you have not gone off dairy it would be a good idea until your body heals. I went to a low acidic diet which follows the low salicylate diet which really has helped me with my healing process... -
I found this in a search, one paragraph from the link below: Cerebellar ataxias including the genetic ataxias however do not have any definitive treatments. Some of the disorders have been reported to be slowed by taking antioxidants such as vitamins A, E, B12, idebenone, and Coenzyme Q10. Vitamin E is the treatment of choice in ataxia caused by vitamin...

Glutout & Reba32, do you both find you are more dizzy (off-balance) when you have been glutened? Does it then slowly fade? Are you repeatedly getting glutened? The reason I ask is this has been one of my hardest symptoms to get rid of for me as well. High fructose does the very same thing to me. It will take me 3 weeks before I feel like I am not floating...

Bartful, congratulations for your find and coming such a long way! Everytime I hear someone say something about a lump in the throat I just have to ask if you have had your thyroid checked? I had a growth on mine which I am on meds to shrink. Approx half of Americans will end up with one before the age of 50 but many go their whole life without knowing. They...

Oh yeah, looking back now I know I have been sick for years. Ths stress I endured as a stepmom to two boys who wished I were died compunded the anxiety and depression I went thru. I was very weak then. I am actually surprised I didn't have a nervous breakdown actually. I feel so much more alive, just an odd alertness but it is like reality dawning in...

ARCHIVED Strict Elimination Diet
AVR1962 replied to New Community Member's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know this sounds very tasking but really it is not. You actually open the door to much healthier eating and it opens your eyes to new ideas. Go back to the basics and it really is quite simple. I made a pot roast last night, no gravy, cooked in it's own juices with water, loaded with veggies. Homemade soups are so simple and can hold so much nutrients.... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge For Diagnosis?
AVR1962 replied to glutenfreemamax2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gastro doc who wanted me back on glutens for 2 months to retest told me that if I went back into their office with symptoms that they would want to repeat the process all over again, I made it to day 12. Went to new doc, he then told me that when I got too sick to do the testing my gastro should have called it then. Hope that helps you. -
This stuff between hyperparathyroidism and celiac gets real tricky. If you are experiencing high calcium levels it could mean that you have a growth or it could mean that your gland is swollen from toxins in your diet (gluten being one of them). In either case the glands that regulate the calcium to the body go kind of nutty trying to keep body working but...

ARCHIVED Sick To Starving/can't Break The Cycle
AVR1962 replied to DianeSeekingInfo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What are you doing to encourage your immune system? Protect your stomach? Are you taking any probiotics? Sounds like more healing needs to be done and being on a very limited vegetarian diet you might not be getting all the nutrients your body needs. Have you thought about visiting a nutritionist? -
Goodness! I do feel your pain and ONLY those who go thru this REALLY understand, I have come to that conclusion. I think your mom is only trying to help but she doesn't walk in your shoes so she doesn't know how. My adults daughters actually started having trouble before I did and I could not understand. Now that I have been diagnosed, they still have no...

ARCHIVED Reaction To Bananas And Pears?
AVR1962 replied to AVR1962's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks, I will take a look at the link. -
What can happen though is during showers these products can get in the mouth. Anything on the lips can easily get into your mouth. And what has happened to me, and sounds like it happened with the original post, is that you can have a reaction on the skin....bumps, swelling, itching. I was having it and realized it was my eye make-up. Detergents could be...

ARCHIVED Gerd Vs. Celiac
AVR1962 replied to Duhlina's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Congrats on the diagnosis! There is so much associated with celiac and he probably wants to see where your vitamin counts and antibodies, all of that are at. My doc had me do a test for diabetes after I was diagnosed. Good thing is you are on the right track. Are you taking anything for the GERD. One thing I can say to keep in mind is do what it takes to... -

Oh sorry.....when she gets these attacks she has trouble beathing and has to take a asthma treatment. Her skin also gets red blotches. -
I had this happen a few months back. Does your face get real red too? Scary! Are you taking ANY herbal supplements or eating herbs of anykind including kelp? Are you having more heart palpitations than usual? Kelp can cause warm flushing in the skin and certain herbs can raise the heart rate and blood pressure much the same way ingredients in the energy drinks...

ARCHIVED Recovery Time After Glutening?
AVR1962 replied to annegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I will be off-balance and sick for a minimum of 3 weeks if I get any gluten of high fructose. Activated charcoal tablets have helped to hurry up the process a bit, by almost 2 weeks. Activated charcoal is an internal cleanser which basically goes in and absorbs randomly. The bottle says to take 2, I take 6 if I fear I had just eaten something like a crumb... -

My 11 year old grand daughter who is gluten-free with asthsma had a reaction to a pear. This is the same reaction she gets from bananas and lemonade. Would anyone have a clue what is in these that could be causing the rection?

First of all, you're not an idiot. I felt like a fool too when I found wheat flour in my cooking spray, had not even thought to look. I use Pantene products for my hair, Nivea for chapstick (another one you have to watch). "Free" detergents like Tide free should be good. I have family members with skin sensativity issues and they do not use fabric softeners...
