ARCHIVED Baby With Gluten Intolerance?
Ollie's Mom replied to Amaya'sMama's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You may have a sensitivity. My hubby eats gluten free at home because the house in gluten free. He can go and have a slice of pizza once or twice a month and not have any adverse reaction at all. I've been gluten free long enough that even a breadcrumb will make me sick. -
ARCHIVED Still Angry Sometimes After 2 Years
Ollie's Mom replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We could continue via PM if you'd like, but I find that open discussions are usually better. Even more so if there are others out there lurking who are looking for this type of information. For me, it doesn't matter if someone labels me HFA or an "aspie" - either way, it is a label, and either way there will be those who think "less" of me because of... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Aspergers?
Ollie's Mom replied to anna34's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have Asperger's. For me, the gluten free diet was a trial to see if gluten was somehow related to my chronic migraines, D, gas, nausea, vomiting, skin issues, etc etc. Eliminating gluten eliminated all of those things for me and, oddly enough, I found it helped me with some of my sensory issues / anxiety. (I was unaware of a link between AS and celiac... -
ARCHIVED Still Angry Sometimes After 2 Years
Ollie's Mom replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Following a gluten-free diet would only exacerbate sensitivity to gluten in those who have a gluten sensitivity. Would you say the same thing about someone who follows a "strawberry free" diet? You don't eat strawberries all year until they are in season... yep, that'll possibly cause a strawberry sensitivity. Or replace strawberry with lettuce. Or... -
ARCHIVED Celiac & Fertility
Ollie's Mom replied to JillianLindsay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Everyone I know who struggled to get pregnant (3 mos, 6 mos, 2 yrs+ of trying) all had a lot of success when they just said, F*** it, I'm not going to think about it this month. I'm just going to relax and not chart anything, etc etc. And yes, have a drink. Or two. The month I gave up (it was a December) I thought, what the heck, and had me... -
ARCHIVED Do You Have Dreams About Accidentally Eating Gluten?
Ollie's Mom replied to srall's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh yes. I hate those dreams. My last one, I was eating a cheeseburger. And when I realized my mistake, I was even more upset because I don't even really like cheeseburgers, and I was like, "WHY am I eating this???" -
ARCHIVED So Does This Mean I'm For Sure Negative For Celiac?
Ollie's Mom replied to chris4845's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Depends if you feel you need an "official" diagnosis or not. I tried a gluten free diet after several doctors were unable to help me. The difference it made to my life was significant. And so, I don't need a doctor's "official" diagnosis to tell me that I need to stay gluten free. BUT, do you think you will want to have any testing done in the future... -
ARCHIVED Why Are People So Insensitive?
Ollie's Mom replied to espresso261's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, as others have said, it does get better. I've been gluten free for over two years now, and those types of things don't even phase me anymore. At first, it used to really annoy me that I couldn't eat what everyone else was eating, or go for lunch with them, or eat "normally" at work conferences, etc. But now, to be honest, I sit there and watch everyone... -
My son was not diagnosed with gluten intolerance (or celiac), but we put him on a gluten-free diet several months ago because of his awful BM's and diaper rash. I recongized some of his poops - they looked a lot like the way mine used to (I self diagnosed gluten intolerance - I'm pretty sure it's celiac) Anyway, my husband and I were just commenting that...

ARCHIVED Glutened By White Wine - Really?
Ollie's Mom replied to ndw3363's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It is not a cooler. It is a pinot grigio. From an Ontario winery. I would never have a cooler without researching it first. Like you, I thought wine was gluten free. But after my reaction on Friday, I'm not so sure anymore. -
ARCHIVED Glutened By White Wine - Really?
Ollie's Mom replied to ndw3363's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the replies. Lisa - I do drink wine on a regular basis, and I don't have problems like this. A few weeks ago, I had about 3/4 of a bottle over the course of an evening and was perfectly fine. I did not consume any more alcohol on Friday than I do normally. So, it was not an alcohol thing. Of that, I am 100% certain. And I thought I could... -
ARCHIVED Possible Glutening By Lay's Chips?
Ollie's Mom replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have never had an issue with Lays - but I only have the plain kind. I live in Canada (not sure if that makes a difference?) I have also never had any trouble with the Kettle brand chips - they are quite yummy. I was so happy to find that brand and realize that I could have flavoured chips again. -
ARCHIVED Glutened By White Wine - Really?
Ollie's Mom replied to ndw3363's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know that this thread is old, but I got really sick a few days ago from two glasses of white wine (Crush Pinot Grigio). I didn't think it was possible to get sick from wine, but now I'm thinking that it really is possible. And yes, it was like I was glutened, but no skin rash like I normally get. But lots of vomiting (within a few hours of having my... -
Congrats!! My hubby and I are planning to try for our second later this year... I love hearing about other ladies and their happy news.

ARCHIVED Glutened While Pregnant
Ollie's Mom replied to TiffersAnn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
So glad to hear the baby is ok! -
ARCHIVED Is The Barbecue Safe?
Ollie's Mom replied to DanPatch's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I didn't say that I had an issue with distilled alcohol or canola oil... only that other people who post here say that they do. I have no idea if it is "true" or not, but who am I to disagree with their experiences? -
ARCHIVED Is The Barbecue Safe?
Ollie's Mom replied to DanPatch's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have a definite answer for you, but I personally would stay away from any bbq but my own. My husband and I bought a new bbq last year when we bought our house - no glutenous substance has touched the grill, and none ever will. I have no idea if "burning off" gluten from a bbq grill would work, but I doubt it given some people have sensitivities... -
ARCHIVED Semi-Elimination Diet
Ollie's Mom replied to Strawberry-Jam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If I were you, I'd just skip the rice milk altogether. When I did an elimination diet, all I had to drink was water. imho, there's no point throwing something into your elimination diet that is highly processed with ingredients you can't control... -
ARCHIVED Glutened While Pregnant
Ollie's Mom replied to TiffersAnn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I did not get glutened while pregnant, but I agree with pricklypear - you should go get checked out thoroughly if you are the least bit concerned about the pain you are feeling. They can put a sensor on your belly to check for contractions. -
ARCHIVED Spouse Is Nonsupportive
Ollie's Mom replied to heyteacher's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I completely disagree. I think she should go one step further and actively show her husband her BMs each and every time she has one so that he can see the frequency and actually see how screwed and (likely) smelly they are. It's one thing to SAY to someone "I have to run to the bathroom every time I eat" - it's another for someone to actually SEE it happen... -
Me too. We stopped using it after the first time my husband used it. He was so upset because he thought the brand was safe.

ARCHIVED No Support From Family
Ollie's Mom replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I always eat beforehand, and bring my own food. I understand that sometimes people are trying to be "nice" by offering to make me something "gluten free", but as others here have said, there's no way you can trust that they understand what's really involved.. the ingredients, maybe (big maybe at that), the CC issues, next to impossible for them to understand... -
I bought some Nature's Bounty B-complex sublingual drops, but when I checked the label (I live in Canada) it says that it is "Free of... wheat" among other things. But no mention of being free of gluten. The US label for the same product says "No wheat, No gluten". They are both manufactured in the US (says so on the label), same size, same active ingredients...

ARCHIVED What Does A Normal Baby Poop Look Like?
Ollie's Mom posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
While my husband and I are trying to figure out what may be bothering our son (we strongly suspect gluten, and after today it seems we may have to add eggs to the list), I have been wondering: What does a normal baby's poop look like? Like a 12 month to 18 month old... what is a typical poop? What colour is it? What is the consistency in the diaper... -
ARCHIVED Could This Be The Answer To My Mysterious Illness
Ollie's Mom replied to melissa222's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Congrats on getting an answer. Hopefully this puts you on the road to recovery and good health.
