  1. I get it once in a blue moon, usually when seasonal allergies are bad. I think I had it along with DH for a while. Talk about confusing... Anyway, I noticed that putting any sort of skin-turnover cream on the areas made it worse...at the time I was using Devita. I tried to keep cosmetics and other stuff off of it, except basic moisturizer. The turnover...
  2. I have good luck with TJ's gluten-free stuff that is "no gluten ingredients" and made on lines NOT shared with wheat. I have terrible luck, however, with all of their processed/flavored nuts (you know, all the yummy stuff) regardless of lines. Don't know if its gluten or something else but every time I feel terrible after I eat it... whereas I used to...
  3. I'd try chia seeds. I've read to sub it 1 for 1 for gums (dissolve 1 tsp. in 2 tsp. water). Every time I use them I look for them in the finished product and can't find them. I'm sure they are there but I don't see them enough to be bothered by them.
  4. Typically, people are so buzzed at those things they can't see past their noses. I am sure you'll handle it very well!
  5. Nope, it's not psychological. The nervousness it causes is, though. Kind of like playing chicken with a train... My itching was strong at the times of day my DH would normally weep (evenin, morning). It slowly subsided.... Probably was the scabs itching, too. But it did itch after the scabs healed - felt like welts were imminent but never popped up. ...
  6. Yeah, eat before you roam and bring some snacks to carry along. Good news is that it sounds fun!
  7. I eat at BJ's - no problem, and Amy's Organic Oven- no problem. Both have seperate prep lines for gluten-free pizza (BJ's in post above). Amy's has a seperate line for all gluten-free. If you're ever in Tucson definitely stop by, great food.
  8. I had sushi last week for the first time since going low iodine (ive eaten seafood but not that large of quantity). Woke up with a red warning spot. Not a major outbreak but a little spot. It was the clearest indicator yet that it's iodine (and not dairy, etc). The only food I'm not eating now is gluten.... I know what you mean about the temporary itching...
  9. You're right. I tested mine in several places to hit stuffing and meat. Most people stick the thermometer in the leg area but not the stuffing.
  10. No. I just made a turduckporken roulade and can tell you that crap (stuffing) gets on everything. On top of that, I'd bet there was basting going on...and that would have stuffing drippings in it. And it is quite possible to cook a stuffed bird without killing people (use a thermometer). Cooking an unstuffed bird is easier, IMO.
  11. Yum! I think pies are excellent gluten-free food. Crusts are flexible and lots of options. I live pecan pie...makes me want one.
  12. That's what they say, but who knows...since they tend to dx DH with biopsy (and we all know how often that happens) but NOT do a GI endoscopy if positive. Once in a while I see bloodwork mentioned as an indicator TO biopsy.... And they wonder why I'm in no hurry to get tested for any if it. Geez.
  13. Oh goodness, all I've been cooking is stuff for tomorrow! Hubs threw together some quickie chicken and bean nachos. Worked for me. And the TURDUCKEN has been "created"!
  14. GI damage is supposed to be patchier and therefore less severe, but assumed present in 90% of DH cases. I think the rationale is the majority of "damage" is seen on the skin. I saw something the other day where DH Celiacs also trend more to the neuro symptoms.
  15. I've read all bloodwork is more likely to be negative with DH. I don't know why, never seen an explanation.... It's also said DH people are more likely to have neg biopsies...of the intestines. And, DH people are more likely to be "silent" Celiacs except for that screamin' hot rash....
  16. I can't even post it correctly - filling is APPLE. See...it'll be a miracle if I don't poison everyone. Oh, and my smoke alarms just went off....
  17. I understand completely. My body is reshaping itself in some strange ways, without a lot of work (other than completely revamping my diet, duh!).
  18. ....you do too many things and forget to add the gluten-free flour! If this works I'll post it.... Supposed to be an almond crust tart with custard, topped by cinnamon-sugar pecans. And I forgot the flour in the custard.... Which may be great for graininess peeps...if it works! Ah well, Thanksgiving adventures!
  19. I've eaten there quite a bit (one location repeatedly) and they are the most knowledgable restaurant re:gluten-free I've been to. The only gluten is wheat tortillas....and so far I've had good luck. Tell them you are gluten-free. They change gloves and get clean utensils to scoop the food. I always get a burrito bowl.... They will heat corn tortillas...
  20. I lucked into an excellent massage therapist. She was experiences in sports massage and also a doula...the lady knew the body. She worked me over - used acupressure and pulled and poked and beat me up. I slept for two days and felt like I had been in a wreck. But it worked. I vote for the acupuncture, or Rolfing, or a good massage therapist. My mom...
  21. Evil torture devices that primarily feature underwires. They go aaaaalllll the way down to the front strap, and snuggle up to the girls. Got to go, my skin is starting to crawl....
  22. Yeah - it can make you feel nuts. I never thought one thing could do so many weird things to my body... Yes, you're reading a lot. Yes, you may flip a bit. But you aren't nuts...and you will get through this. I thought sinus pressure was normal. I thought dry skin was normal. I thought C was normal. Guess what, it ISN'T! I've only given up ONE...
  23. Yep. 8 tsp. Someone else may tweak it more but it works for me. I'd be interested in trying a vinegar, but not if I have to add soda.
  24. To the OP: I have self-dx'ed DH (well, my ND thinks its DH, too). Anyway, I was on steroids - topical and oral prednisone and it did help; however, coming off them was HIDEOUS. The rash was worse after the steroids (and after withdrawing them) than before the steroids. See if your mom can get a biopsy from a dermatologist. In the interim, go gluten...
