  1. There's been a lot in the news about micro biomes lately. Here's a link I found a while back.... Open Original Shared Link
  2. Yes, the GFP and King Atthur are mixes. For crustier French Bread buy little loaf pans, and make 4 mini-loaves instead of 1 big one. I did that with the Gfp. Worked great. When I make gumbo I'll post the recipe. It's naturally gluten-free as long as you make the roux from gluten-free flour. Just meat and veggies otherwise.
  3. Ener-G bread????
  4. Try a French bread like Gluten Free Pantry/Glutino or A super white bread like Kingarthur Flour. I ground some of each up for crumbs and they worked great. Someone suggested that one brand...can't think of the name....but it's dry and horrible and it's premade and shelf stable....said it is great for baking. Someone help me here.....orange/yellow package...
  5. I've made the interesting discovery that gluten-free bread bakes very well in stuffings, casseroles. Don't fight it. We've got enough crappy luck, take that and run!
  6. Lots of Hashis and gluten symptoms overlap. At first t3/4 helped alleviate 75% of my problems...but at year 4 or so I started getting them back, plus some new ones. When I went gluten-free they started disappearing within a week. I had heart palpitations which started about the same time my other symptoms came back. When I added vitamin d and iron supplaments...
  7. I read sweet brown rice flour makes an excellent roux - also read that gluten-free flour mixes work great, too. I've tried King Arthur flour mix and it was ok - I noticed a slight difference in flavor but was heard to tell since etoufee is a "whatever I've got" meal for me. I did notice when I made steak and gravy (round steak dipped in seasoned flour...
  8. There's a huge portion of that label that is unreadable. I'm betting it's ok based in the allergen warning on the label saying "contains egg ingredients", and doesn't mention wheat.
  9. Ok, I can't say enough good things about this gelato. I've tried four or five flavors, and they are all great. The Sea Salt Caramel is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE. I could crawl in a vat of it and eat my way out without regrets. They do a great job labeling - and have many gluten-free flavors. The ingredients are simple and no HFCS. Looks like they make...
  10. It can be tough at first. It's hard to learn all the sources of gluten, and in the beginning expect to make some mistakes. Second, you may have an additional food intolerance - milk is the most common. But allergies here range the full spectrum. Third, have you tried probiotics and digestive enzymes? They can really help your system get going.
  11. I thought about you last night. All of The Guys (FIL, BIL, Hubs, Kid) had gluteny pasta and I was The Gluten Police at my house last night. Hubs finally lost it when I got irate when he put the freshly scrubbed pots on a section of a cabinet I hadn't scrubbed 3x with soap and water. Ironically, they all would have been ok eating my corn/quinoa pasta...
  12. I understand, it can be alarming. I don't own a scale, so I can't say how much I've lost...but it's like my skin is shrinking back onto my body. At first it was like I was deflating - not so much weight but puffiness went away - arms, chest, especially. Now I know I'm losing weight (I'm 4 months in) despite having hypoglycemia (apparently) issues and eating...
  13. What about lamb????
  14. I second Starbucks! You can make homemade ice cream - milk, sugar, vanilla....put it in a freezer. Cheap and you know the ingredients! If you want a great experience try Talenti Gelato. Holy Moley!!! I found some salted caramel flavor today and can't wait to try it tonight !!! I'll be beating the hubby and kid to keep them away from it....
  15. Safflower will probably be easier than grapeseed. Canola should be plentiful.
  16. Wow. I don't know what to say..., Are you ok with beans? That could be a protein source for you. Peas?
  17. Everyone likes something different..,I like safflower. No strong taste and high smoke point.
  18. Ok, whoa. The broth in the chicken may or may not have gluten in it. Call the company that markets it and ask what's in it. We all mess up. The last year has NOT been in vain. This won't be the last mistake - so just keep doing what you're doing. We all make mistakes eating gluten-free.
  19. You need to stop letting other people cook for you, especially in a restaurant/deli setting. Buy some beans and cook them at home. And you may have another food allergy. Eating out will NOT make it easier to figure out. There's a time for restaurants, but now isn't it unless absolutely necessary.
  20. If the point of the pot is to relax it sounds like using it now is counterproductive. You need to find a new way to mellow out. And while gluten may have a part in triggering allergies or intolerances, it sound like you are having an allergic reaction to the pot, not autoimmune.
  21. I was thinking today... Perhaps a part of what makes the gluten-free diet a success is the willingness of the patient to DO something, and not have the "pill" mentality. My mom keeps saying stuff like "but it makes everything so hard", and going on about how difficult it is. I agreed that it is difficult, but being sick is MORE difficult. I think she's...
  22. I mad a good loaf of their French bread (Gluten Free Pantry). Better than other loaves I've baked but I like French bread over anything else. Their pretzels are great. Donuts, Krispy wafer cookies are heinous. I think I'll feed the cereal (like Cheerios) to the birds.
  23. These coolers are great, I looked into them when we moved to AZ. Unfortunately, they aren't great in AZ since it gets soooo dang hot. When its 110 outside, you can imagine what happens when the car is closed up. Oddly enough, ice packs work better here... I take a cooler with (lots) packs when I go shopping and toss perishables in there when going from...
  24. Geez. So, I haven't heard a thing back from the one family member I notified a week ago. I didn't expect her to call asking for info, but did expect she'd acknowledge the email. So, just as I thought... I'm a leper. Can ya'll believe as I was perusing Facebook my cousin from the OTHER side of the family (aunt was Mom's, cousin is Dad's) said she's...
  25. That was twisted, funny, sad and informative. Makes you wonder about tge creator, hmmm?
