Coffee is one of those things your body may "see" as gluten. Some people have the same issue with tea, or decaf tea. Try it and see. I almost freaked giving up coffee (I was in the try anything stage). I dont think coffee is a problem, but strangely enough I lost my taste for it. But oh wow do I have a chai habit now!!

If changing ratios doesn't help, you may consider trying a different med combo. I know you are limited due to intolerances but some people respond better to one over the other. Open Original Shared Link I used to respond to Armour, but didn't after the reformulation. I did better on Naturethroid. Then I went to thyroid usp (remember the supply issue... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results -- Gene Tests
pricklypear1971 replied to rutkowski517's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, she is at a higher risk to develop celiac disease, based on genetics. Yes, you are at a higher disk (some say 50%), based on autoimmune thyroid disease. You should both have full-panel celiac panels run. I have had blood work labs run (LabCorp) to test for vitamin deficiencies, genetics and am awaiting results. I also have an Enterolab kit waiting... -
I second what mushroom said. I have had FABULOUS luck with a Naturapath. Generally, they listen and are willing to look at the whole picture - and they will treat with vitamin, diet therapy. I suggest looking for one with an endocrinology specialty. There's a licensing board for ND's - go on there are search in your area. Good luck!

Generally D. O. Means doctor of osteopathy. Generally, they are supposed to be more open, friendly but sometimes they are not.

Are you hyper??? Hmm. Have you tried different types of thyroid meds? Some people respond better to natural (Armour, etc), and some respond better to synthetics. The other thing to wonder - are you getting glutened somehow? My gluten symptoms were Tge same as hypo symptoms - brain fog, tired, major c. -

Well, my furry baby is much better today. His shoulder/neck is very tender from jumping up/down out of the SUV but doggie dope is helping with that. We still catch him staring or trying to listen once in a while... are thinking it's his eyes and not his hearing. I hope he didn't have some brain seizure, etc. that suddenly decreased his vision. We're just... -

Thyroid problems run in my family (yeah, could be celiac/gluten intolerance runs in my family). A lot of females are on thyroid meds in our tree. I'm the only one dx'd so far with gluten issues. I'm also the youngest to go on thyroid meds - my aunt was dx'd with goiter and had half of hers removed about 30 years ago, now she's on low meds. We're a thyroid... -
ARCHIVED What Symptoms Did You Not Even Realize Were Symptoms?
pricklypear1971 replied to smeej's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My brain fog and low stamina went away. I knew nothing about celiac - except it was a "stomach thing". I attributed those symptoms to Hashis. My hands got steadier - had no idea gluten did that. Ironically, I struggled with C a long time (again, assumed thyroid) and now I'm having a hard time determining normal potty routines because I have no frame of... -
Nightshades? Salicylates? Both are common in Celiac populations. I have a problem with chemical sals - if it's an initial it doesn't like me - food colorings, preservatives, etc. Carbonation gets people sometimes, too. Google salicylate, nightshades and see what you think.

ARCHIVED Is This Even Possible?
pricklypear1971 replied to MJ-S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would assume anything is possible. What is more likely is the crumbs ate getting on you or your stuff. Door handle? Are they walking out and touching other things that you later touch? Are they going to your desk later and touching your stuff? And the other question, is it anything else? Is it that you are just tired from the work week, and your body... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Ataxia - What's Your Experience?
pricklypear1971 replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really dont have gut symptoms (unless I develop them now, which would truly suck, but that seems to be par for the course around here). I do probably have absorption issues... But thats hard to gauge. I do have what is apparently DH, and since I've been on a low iodine diet I've had very good luck keeping it in remission. I appear to be chemical... -

pricklypear1971 replied to burdee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
That's interesting. My ND told me I will probably always be on meds since I have ALREADY been on them so long...even if my antibodies drop. It may reduce, who knows. I'm at a high-normal dose now. -

pricklypear1971 replied to KiwiBrit's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If its individually wrapped plastic coated processed cheese slices who knows what's in it. I don't call that cheese, personally. If it's white block cheese - white cheddar, Monterrey jack, etc. it was probably ok. You've got to learn to say no to food you can't verify or read ingredients on. It simply isn't worth the risk. -

Thanks. We've tried glucosimine and didn't see progress with him. He's a rough and tough guy - he has run head first into glass doors, rolled down hills, pulled gates out of cement. We're pretty sure he has some pinched nerve or something like that which flares periodically. That said, maybe it's worth a try again. I'm thinking he has sensory failure and... -

I would seriously keep up the low iodine diet along with gluten-free and take photos to show your second opinion doc. And document what happens when you eat iodine, gluten. It may very well be Prurigo - caused by DH. Also, try that cromolyn cream. If mast cells are involved it may bring relief. Good luck! -

pricklypear1971 replied to Flasaltwater's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It's also associated with DH. Open Original Shared Link If you try a low-iodine diet and it works it would be a strange coincidence. Mast cells and neutrophils are seen in higher-than-normal levels in prurigo nodularis, so the cromolyn cream recipe on the chronic urticaria site may help. -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Baked With Smart Balance Light

Spreads usually have more water in them, that's why they spread. Salt, too usually (if you bake with unsalted butter/margarine). -

Well, we don't know. Nothing obvious jumped out except full anal glands so they expressed those. No infection there. Now his neck/shoulder is sore and I gave him the usual doggie dope for that. Also gave him some homeopathic calming drops. He wouldn't get out of my SUV. And he wouldn't stand up. He didn't want to jump, don't blame him with a sore shoulder... -
