  1. If you have one with a dairy/egg problem, there's a good chance you have two. Seems to go that way, unfortunately. Keep eliminating til you figure out what works. Good luck, I know it's awful to watch them not feel well and not know how to fix it.
  2. I love quinoa in place of rice or in a salad. Love quinoa/corn pasta. I tried quinoa breakfast cereal (flakes) and almost threw up.there's a bitter undertaste. Ick. Almost ruined the pasta experience for me. So, stick without as a whole grain used sparingly? Perhaps destroying the whole grain brings out a bitterness?
  3. Excellent links. Thank you!
  4. You can always leave the sugar out. But it probably won't taste like ketchup. I did see one recipe using Bragg's Amino's...don't remember if it was that one or not. Some vinegars would be milder - apple cider, etc. Funny, I remember someone telling me ketchup used to not be so sweet...perhaps my grandmother?? If you regularly go without sugars...
  5. I guess you could make your own? Open Original Shared Link
  6. Maltodextrin should be fine unless it declares (wheat derived). It's the natural flavors that give me pause.
  7. I understand there are other skin problems linked with gluten. What I would like to know is if there are others that resolve specifically with withdrawal of iodine on top of gluten withdrawal. My rash would get "better" on gluten-free diet, but withdrawing iodine was like smothering the fire. Now that I'm over a month low-iodine I can add iodine foods...
  8. Funny. I was looking for a breath mint yesterday.... I found maltodextrin in almost all - which in the U.S. Should declare wheat if it's wheat derived. I finally settled on regular Altoids. The small sugar free ones have wheat derived maltodextrin in them. Wintergreen has natural flavors, without clarification. Most other mints I picked up had undeclared...
  9. Irish, Scot, English, Italian, German, French. My ND just read the results over the phone, I go in Thursday to get the details - as in how many copies...but apparently those two were +.
  10. Dirty rice, corn on the cob, sliced heirloom tomatoes.
  11. So you don't use less liquid?
  12. I found gluten-free Graham cracker crumbs, haven't used them yet. Before I found them I was thinking of using a lemon or shortbread gluten-free cookie for a crumb crust. I also found gluten-free ladyfingers and plan on tryingan Italian style cheesecake this week.
  13. Do you have a moisture issue with your cornbread dressing? gluten-free breads tend to stay moister, IMO.
  14. Most mixes can be substituted with oil (instead of butter), and water instead of milk. You may want to try King Arthur gluten-free flour mix since it is free from soy, milk. Their recipes give hints on substitutions.
  15. Ok, it was made abundantly clear to me today that people have preconceived notions that anything I cook over the holidays is going to suck since it will be "gluten free". So veterans, please roll out the killer recipes for us newbies, please!!! Suggested blogs, articles?? I need a killer pie crust recipe, and suggestions on how to mimic the french bread...
  16. I just came from my FIL's house where he informed me he wants a "real" Thanksgiving with potatoes and dressing. I reminded him he ate bread at my house last night (gluten-free). I also informed him potatoes are gluten-free. Seriously? Is it like this ALL THE TIME?? or do holidays bring out the Crazy Questions??? For GFreeMO, there are lots of gluten...
  17. Ok, I haven't tried any decorating post gluten-free - so if you could share your sources for fondant, royal icing, etc. Id appreciate it! And what cookie recipe do you use? As I typed this I realized I can't make my grandmother's teacakes anymore. Ouch, that hurts.
  18. Well, I assume you are gluten-free. If the rash is still active, try going low iodine in addition to gluten-free. If that shows relief of any type, there's a high likelihood it's DH. Some people scar, some have white spots, some gave it disappear completely. For info on a low iodine diet, google "thyca". A low iodine diet short circuits the...
  19. I saw something like Nilla Wafers at Whole Foods. I don't know the name...just saw it and remember it. Goldfish type crackers don't ring a bell, but there are lots of cheesy rice-based crackers out there.
  20. And you aren't a head case.
  21. Ok, well that sucks. I would look into independent blood testing - where a doctor doesn't have to order it. I have no idea where/how in the UK. Do you have alternative practitioners like Naturapaths there? Could one (if you have them) order the tests? Fortunately, you don't need anyone's permission or RX to go gluten-free if it comes down to it...
  22. What I've been reading, if I understand correctly, is that dqa1, dqb1 combine to make HLA DQ2.5???? I'm not sure - just see the 1's in parentheses next to 2.5's.... I'll get a copy of the test. Don't know how the lab interprets it.
  23. DH can spontaneously appear, disappear while ingesting gluten. Don't know if it happens like that if you are off gluten. I hope not for my sake.
  24. If you read under the first link, there is a pretty detailed description, I believe. You may need to find a dermatology textbook, etc. Try a library or start googling.
  25. In addition to the above, if you aren't already taking a good multivitamin add it now. Add a cal/mag/vit d in addition. I have had the same heart thing - which was helped by gluten-free. Comes and goes regardless of type of thyroid med; helped by supplements, specifically when I added more vit d and iron, which I am very deficient in. I also take a good...
