ARCHIVED Are There Celiacs That Don't Worry About Contaminated Kitchens?

Ok, this shows my ignorance....what are toaster bags and where do you get them? -
ARCHIVED No More Wine For Me.

I didn't notice a difference, either.....until Friday. But oh it was BAD. -
ARCHIVED Glutened By White Wine - Really?
pricklypear1971 replied to ndw3363's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe it is something in the air...I'm still paying for Friday's wine tasting fiasco. I did notice something interesting - when I drink organic wine or biodynamic wine (can't remember the wineries) I could barely feel a buzz. Compared to regular wine (sulfates added, strong tannins), it was very different. -
ARCHIVED Glutened By White Wine - Really?
pricklypear1971 replied to ndw3363's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Is Crush a flavored wine? If so that may be a problem. When we were wine tasting Friday (my horrid day), one place makes flavored ports - and she showed me the ingredients - that particular one didn't contain gluten but it would be easy to encounter one that is. That's why they say stay away from flavored vodkas, etc. -

I charted bbt, watched mucus.... In the end I knew the cm was the problem (if it wasn't endometriosis). I also had TCOYF. Great book. -

Robitussin. Check and see if it's gluten-free. Take it as you approach ovulation, stop after you know you ovulated. Increases cervical mucus. And 3 months really is just the beginning - I hit it on 11 months. When I gave up. And took Robitissin. -
ARCHIVED Child Back In Hospital

No, you are not overreacting. You need a diagnostician. Wonky lab results need to be taken as a whole - which is what a good diagnostician will do. Internists are known to be better than other docs at diagnostics. Perhaps a very good Naturapath. Don't stop pushing. Keep researching. -
ARCHIVED Frozen Meatballs
pricklypear1971 replied to Kelleybean's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ok, hubby is a meatball pro: First, for SOFT meatballs try ground veal. Hubs Recipe: 1 lb. Ground beef 2 eggs Dried parsley Salt Pepper Grated Parmesan - LOTS OF CHEESE Italian breadcrumbs if you want, but not necessary (make your own) Hubs fries them in a skillet, he doesn't bake them. Usually fried in sausage drippings....but any oil will... -
ARCHIVED This Is Getting Ridiculous!

Real quick - potato SKINS are high in iodine, so skin them to help prevent DH flare. Also - pork tends to have additives to keep it pretty and pink. Read the wrapping and see if it has a solution added. They do it to chicken too but un-solutioned chicken is easier to find than pork. I still can't find a pork loin roast that doesn't give me gas or cramps... -
ARCHIVED No More Wine For Me.
pricklypear1971 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sad part is I didn't drink that much - only hit 3 wineries. We would usually hit 7 and then go out for dinner and drink more. Probably didn't help that one was sweet wines. Ugh. Don't want to think about it. -
ARCHIVED Shocked! Don't Know What To Think?
pricklypear1971 replied to lcarter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did they report the genes they found? My tests showed I have half a dq2, half a dq8- one other that is reported as a possible celiac gene, and one that is a bit of wild card.... So, you still may have genetic predisposition...research the reported genes. The other thing - even though I have half genes they still reported it as "negative". Again,... -
Ok, we went wine tasting yesterday - was our first "fun" day in a while. I did all the smart things - ate well and hydrated the day before, ate breakfast, packed a lunch for us.... And I got so sick. The sickest I've ever been from drinking. Ever. It took 12 hours of vomiting to even hold down water. I never want to see or smell or drink wine...

ARCHIVED Halloween Candy - No Binging This Year!
pricklypear1971 replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Snickers are supposed to be gluten-free but I haven't tried one since going gluten-free (whereas I've eaten my weight in Junior Mints). We're going wine tasting tomorrow and I am NOT screwing up now. Just passed on a Manhattan Espresso Soda float because I couldn't source the caramel color. Ugh!!!! -
ARCHIVED Frozen Meatballs
pricklypear1971 replied to Kelleybean's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Meatballs are easy to make and freeze well. Try making your own. I don't know of any gluten-free ones, frozen and premade. -
ARCHIVED Halloween Candy - No Binging This Year!
pricklypear1971 posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
So, I spied a bag of Junior Mint Halloween candy (all the way from the other end of the aisle, no less!). As I cruised by I wasn't even tempted to grab anything else (like Snickers)...nothing like the fear of gluten to keep me straight. And yes, I DID buy the Junior Mints! -
ARCHIVED Brain Fog

I've been going round and round with iron and vit d - blood work shows im low on both. I noticed a big increase in energy and clarity and "wanna go go go" when I started taking higher doses of them. So maybe the iron will help?? Btw - iron does make me a bit sick at my stomach but it improves every day. -

ARCHIVED Welts And Itching Where Hands Hit Restaurant Table
pricklypear1971 posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ok, earlier this week we went out to eat. Suddenly the side of my pinkie and a spot at my wrist started itching, saw a welt - almost like an ant bite pop up. Figured it was an ant or another bug - although I was the only One itching and we saw no bug. Last night, went out to eat at another restaurant (yeah, too much eating out but it's not normal so don... -
I agree; however, if the rash "fades" rather than appears as 1 giant lesion there's a chance 6 inches is the first clear skin. If you looked at my rash under a magnifier I had tiny bumps around the main lesion. That's one reason we were waiting to biopsy - because the whole area had "blown up" and the lesions supposedly destroy the iga - which is what...

ARCHIVED Tired Of Having Frequent "colds"
pricklypear1971 replied to Rebekka's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you had vitamin blood panels run, you probably know your deficiencies. If not, I'd ask to have them run. I am on the side of "fix it and be happy" - so if I suspected thyroid I'd get it checked asap. Remember, some tests have a big range .5-5.5, and the new trend is to lower "normal" to .5-2.5....so get a copy of your tests and insist on the TPO for... -
ARCHIVED Crawfish, Crawdads, Crawfish
pricklypear1971 replied to CNV2855's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Aha! The BAIT!!! Looks like the ponds are primarily fed by plant decomposition. However, The BAIT can be either fish parts (winter) or pelleted bait (contains cereal grains - warm weather). So eat them in the winter for best chance at gluten-free? I wonder if they could ship tails based on when they are harvested? Or call around for a farm that... -
ARCHIVED Crawfish, Crawdads, Crawfish
pricklypear1971 replied to CNV2855's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do farms purge crawfish? Do they feed them during that phase? I know my grandparents would do it for 24 hours if they had the time or if the crawdads/crabs were particularly muddy. Wonder if that would help. If iodized salt was used it would be plenty to make DH flare, especially in the beginning. Would have for me, anyway. -
I have no idea but at least it wasn't on top of it. I think it depends on your rash - DH can vary greatly in appearance. Crossing my fingers you get the results you're looking for!
