  1. I found pool water burned my dh sores...and the wet bathing suit rubbed them. That aside, I was fine. Just see how you feel.
  2. I don't recall stress causing my dh to flare, but the appearance of dh sent me down an emotional and physical roller coaster every time. Steroids can screw with your adrenals, making it more difficult to deal with stress, and also create symptoms. Steroids screwed me up. It's been 2 years and just starting to approach "normal" adrenal function. Maybe....
  3. Digestive enzymes with every meal help me. If I don't use them, I feel like I need antacids. And keep something in your stomach all the time - preemptive eating - I assume it feels acidic? If it feels like your food is just sitting there try Betaine HCL - more acid.
  4. Wow. It's definitely something to watch. I'd like to know more about the drug, how it works....what about other AI diseases? I guess that's for studies - how people with more than one AI disease are affected.
  5. I just saw this. I am not here as frequently as I was. This is very, very sad. Like many others, Mushroom was a great friend and teacher when I arrived in this forum. I will truly miss her.
  6. I have a terrible time with headaches and exhaustion in the late winter/early spring. CEDAR. I constantly struggle with feeling like I'm in the midst of an AI flare - and I may be, but it is definitely linked to seasonal allergies. It's obvious - wind, dust, blooms - more AI symptoms. They are all over the place - generally my body is just more sensitive...
  7. Honestly, at my house, I just went gluten-free except for bottled beer and an occasional piece of candy or single serving bag of snacks for my son. Anything crumbly - no way. You sit in the patio and eat it - I don't care if its 110. Why? I knew that with my family it wouldn't work. Tried it a little, it was a disaster. As far as communicating cc in the...
  8. I'm going to disagree and tell you it could be dh. I'll also tell you how you can sort of test it and see if you get a reaction that may indicate dh. Warning: this could make it flare like a wildfire. When you get it calmed down a bit, off gluten or whatever else irritates it....eat some gluten free high iodine foods:asparagus, whole eggs, potato skins...
  9. Constipation can cause stomach/intestine/colon pain...especially the type you're talking about. My son gets c, and had an X-ray for it. I asked the doctor if c could cause what he's been feeling and he said most definitely. He described some pretty ugly cases. You need to find out why you are so constipated! I agree you should have your gallbladder checked...
  10. Interesting. I don't remember the thread's name, but it's somewhere on here... Edited: here it is https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/101271-how-important-is-an-official-diagnosis/?fromsearch=1 That FODMAP sensitivity is an alternative exanation for feeling better off gluten in patients who test negative for celiac disease. This is coming from one of...
  11. Dani, it's good to see you again. I'm so sorry to hear about your mother. All I can do is echo RWG's confirmation that there is known kidney and liver involvement with celiac disease. Overall, celiac disease is known to cause disruption throughout the body, including the brain. In my family there is known dementia - and has been named Alzheimer's. I...
  12. I think of you know you have a reaction to gluten (based on your experiences over 1 1/2 years ago), that you shouldn't question it now. Many people have posted here saying they've been glutened, no immediate reaction....but odd things started happening they could recognize only retrospectively. Most say eventually they begin to exhibit a more immediate...
  13. Do you know if THAT licorice has gluten in it? Did you read the ingredients? That said, when glutened, you may not react immediately or in a way you would expect. Don't assume you aren't having effects from it. You can't see your villi.....
  14. You do realize that topical steroid use (any steroid use) can give false negatives on Celiac and other autoimmune testing?
  15. That's probably "leaky gut". Or, the part of Celiac that is leaky gut. I found I went through stages where certain things bothered me, then they didn't. I ate junior mints like they were water....then one day, they made me violently ill. I only developed two intolerances during healing, that I can figure out: processed mint flavor and pelligrino sodas. Weird...
  16. Tj's has cupcakes? Pizza? I think I'm slow...I only just now found the waffles.
  17. Probiotics help. Probiotic foods (naturally fermented) help more. My doctor gave me probio max plus df from xymogen ep. I would call it extremely effective, and start slowly. Half a dose per day or less, working up to one dose per day. I mix it into a shot of oj. I've taken various probiotics and none of them compare, IMO, to the xymogen. Probiotics help...
  18. Oh no. Well, you're doing the right thing by keeping a food diary. I'd be more suspicious of the date....was it treated with a preservative? I'd try the pear, peeled, again next time (when you work up nerve). In the beginning, weird things happen. Just keep moving forward.
  19. And medications have their problems. I take the meds for thyroid. It isn't a magic pill. I don't eat gluten-it's closer to magical. You'll get there.
  20. Thyroid meds helped some (thyroid dx was years before celiac). It takes time for gluten-free to help with celiac d - or it did for me. Exercise helps, so yoga like IH suggested or walking... Sugar would make me a bit c'd. Dehydration. I needed LOTS of veggies to keep things steady. Not as sensitive now - coming up on 2 years.
  21. It's possible that the allergy meds are acting on something that was untested. Any allergist will admit they only have tests for a fraction of possible allergens. It's also possible the allergy meds are suppressing her autoimmune reaction to something. I personally get great relief from autoimmune symptoms by taking antihistamines. It's a cheat to keep me...
  22. You are not gluten free if you aren't avoiding cc like toasters. Those tiny bits of gluten are enough to cause an autoimmune reaction. Don't worry about other diseases, etc. till you master gluten-free. Yes, you can get more sensitive over time. What you're experiencing is not "increased sensitivity". What you're experiencing is an autoimmune reaction...
  23. Coming off gluten can be terrible. In the beginning you get into it by accident...and gluten-free items can even set you off. It's a mess. It will NOT be perfect in the beginning. Your body is flipping out and unhappy. Unhappy on it, unhappy off it. Eventually it will calm down. My husband claims to know when I get glutened. I get quiet and a bit...
  24. For what purpose is the Celiac dx? School? Get your dermatologist to write a letter saying your child has celiac/dh and must avoid gluten. Add anything else pertinent. Hold on to the letter like gold. Find any doc as a pcp who will accept the dx. You're just going to have to draw the line and have some docs for some things, some for others. You may end...
  25. Yes. You need a complete Celiac bloodwork panel run. The home test is not definitive to rule Celiac out. Also, you could be NCGI - and the only test is a gluten-free trial. I would also suggest a complete thyroid work up - tpoAb antibodies plus free t3/4/reverset3 in addition to tsh. That doctor was a jerk.
