  1. I ate out alot. I think I got cc'd more than once. I know there's something in the air around here. Hub's allergies are bad, too. I've always had bad allergies in the winter, especially when it's dry (and since I'm in the desert dry is really dry)...and it is finally dry. I was just surprised the Claritin worked so well. I can't believe an allergy...
  2. Maybe in eggplant? I made eggplant cooked in Sauternes wine and I'd bet they'd both work. It was an easy recipe, just saut
  3. 1) I have no idea, and you may not need as much now that you're gluten-free. Try probiotics and digestive enzymes. 2) Yes. I locked myself in the bathroom at work and kicked the wall. That was after I almost broke the phone. Get a crutch. Mine was Hershey's Kisses and Junior Mints and Talenti Gelato. And most sausage is gluten-free. Boar's Head is....
  4. I usually don't have that problem, either but my allergies are bad right now so I can only have a little but of alcohol at a time. I usually keep some cheap Presecco around for mimosas. Yum!
  5. Well, my hubs has a cast-iron digestive system, great immune system. He isn't so stubborn that he wouldn't do it, he just doesn't think it happens to be his problem. And he's probably right. The only problems he has ever had are high bp, and swelling ankles when he flies, and since he's gained weight as he's gotten older a bit of acidic stomach from some...
  6. You need an iron/ferritin panel too. Get them all, not just "iron". In the end, the proof is in how you feel off gluten. I'd get a copy of the endoscopy report and see what it says. Just don't take the GI's word for it, and it's just a good idea to have a copy.
  7. Ok, during the holidays I was tired and achey. Assumed it was the holiday craziness. When I couldn't shake it I assumed I got glutened, or had multiple small cc exposures that built (I may have had one big exposure but will never be sure). My hands hurt, muscles ache sometimes, I'm sensitive to scents again (grocery store cleaning items aisle is hell...
  8. Really? Do they make them or are they a name brand? I haven't noticed them - then again it never occurred to me to look at the cookies. I haven't seen anything at mine that isn't "no gluten ingredients" in a long time. I wonder if you have a different selection in your area. I take that back - they added some gluten-free bread that isn't their label...
  9. Yeah, I have had mixed results from their stuff. You'll notice they don't say gluten-free, but "no gluten ingredients". Haven't tried those cookies, but have great luck with the creme br
  10. Sorry about that. I took two Children's Claritin last night and it felt like I took a sleeping pill. Hit me like a pile of bricks and still had to go back to bed with a hangover. I think I'll take 1 tonight. It did help.... But wow I can't believe I'm that sensitive!
  11. The other thing I see is lemon used in place of vinegar (used in place of buttermilk). I have a teacakes recipe I prefer using lemon/milk.
  12. Season soups using bones - they are cheap and plentiful and sometimes free. Use salt, pepper, herbs, veggies like onion, garlic, carrots. You do need protein....beans, meats. Soups are great places to hide inexpensive tough cuts of meat.
  13. First, let me set this up by admitting I've had a holiday meltdown of sorts and decided I hated 80% of my family... And the ones I didn't hate I didn't want to speak to... To understand how odd that is you'd have to know me BEFORE the meltdown. But anyhow, here's my take on the stupid people. Screw 'em. And it wouldn't hurt them to hear it. I'm not...
  14. Only at home. But it sure made him think, especially when my stepson showed up with worsening digestive issues (probably milk but the kid actually came out and said he avoids wheat products).
  15. If you are satisfied with a dx without a scraping, that's up to you. I would have forced the scraping since so much hinges on the dx (scheduled surgery )and you want further proof of Celiac if applicable.
  16. So did he do a scraping?
  17. It's very interesting to put the familial genetics together. Comparing mine to my son's was a learning experience - especially for the doctor and hubby. Hubs discovered HE carries at least half a Celiac gene....
  18. If you're doing genetics LabCorp reports alpha and beta and all alleles on dq2, 8.
  19. Celiacs can have their first reaction to a food 36 hours after ingestion, so you can't automatically assume it was what you recently ate. That's why you need the journal. I advise eating whole foods only for a few weeks, excluding major allergens, and barring any negative reactions to those foods, add back the major allergens one per week. Yes, it's...
  20. If you like mint carry around Junior Mints. They are gluten-free, dairy and egg free so that covers alot of allergy bases! My favorite "bar" is a Kind+ bar. They're semi healthy and all gluten-free. Good news about italian is that by changing pastas you up your chance of getting to eat. Screen the ingredients, and see if you can persuade them to switch...
  21. Have you asked a dentist? Mine and my son's are reasonably knowledgeable about Celiac and teeth. Have you been tested for vitamin problems and addressing those or just guessing which ones you're low on?
  22. Thanks for posting this. I am miserable right now and am resorting to my son's Claritin. I know it's allergies, but am also nervous it's gluten or a new food reaction... Whatever, I'm taking some....
  23. My uncle has a problem with sodium lauryl sulfate (think that's it) - a sudsing agent used in a lot of toothpaste. He uses toothpaste that doesn't contain it. I think SLS gives him mouth sores. Personally, I use Weleda Salt toothpaste and love it.
  24. Ditto - the less salt sea salts are my fave. Same with those dang Crunchmaster 3 cheese!
  25. Just google gluten free recipes and you'll come up with alot. I think there's a crock pot site called 365 or something similar. I think this is it Open Original Shared Link The best advice I have is not to panic, your food foraging and cooking will improve. And quickly, if you're hungry!
