  1. **oops, didnt realize this wasn't the OP - Ponygurl. On my phone...*** Well, the prednisone can be an issue with testing. That said, up to 37% of biopsies for DH are negative. It isn't an easy dx. Since you are already gluten-free, you may look into iodine sensitivity as a DH trigger. Google "thyca" for info on a low iodine diet. I was gluten-free ...
  2. There are gluten and corn allergy medicine lists out there - google it. Of course, you should always use it as a starting point and verify with the manufacturer. I know corn is worse to work around than gluten. Perhaps a compounding pharmacy could help?
  3. Saw this at Walgreen's. Says gluten-free on the bag. No wheat in the facility. Bought a bag of the Cinnamon Sugar. Not bad!
  4. Its 59 and climbing! Feels great - it was cloudy and rainy for a few days.
  5. I find them with the canning stuff and home plastics - Saran wrap, foil, etc. I put my son's "vitamin smoothie" in them. Blender makes 5 cups. Pack of containers =5. I take one out per day, let it thaw in the fridge, he eats it when he gets home. Yay yay. Love those things.
  6. And potatoes get a weird texture, too. Maybe cream if potato would be ok, but chunks of potato are ick. I like to freeze ziplock bags flat. My second favorite is the Ball freezer jars. They are plastic but so secure and easy and they measure 8oz. If you run them under hot water a few minutes the contents fall out and you can microwave the contents in another...
  7. I wonder if he means something like this? Open Original Shared Link Perhaps key here is to remember "autoimmune" covers alot of territory??
  8. For almost six years I asked to eat at Lucky Wishbone (local fried food chain in Tucson). Never, ever ever ever got it. Hubs always made an excuse - no...too heavy, too greasy, will give him indigestion. Mind, he RAVED about eating it as a kid/college. So, a few weeks before I MOVE TO TUCSON AND COULD EAT LUCKY WISHBONE WHENEVER I WANT I'm told to...
  9. It's really hard to know anything when it comes to DH testing. The rashes vary in appearance greatly, sensitivity to gluten varies, frequency of breakouts varies....it's all over the place. A new rash is better to biopsy than an old one, one with clear edges is best, and if you are actively eating gluten its said to be better for testing (UK sources...
  10. Here's one bit about WBC and steroids:Open Original Shared Link And another about why WBC can be elevated: Open Original Shared Link I'll paraphrase what doctors have told me about CBC's - several things can cause variations and when in doubt test again.
  11. Synthetic dyes -red, are salicylates if I remember correctly. I can't do topical wheat or oats. I get big knots under my scalp and red blotches on my face and itchy skin.
  12. I have a problem ingesting them...especially red. Gave me bladder infections, and irritates my bladder (in absence if infection). Haven't noticed topically, but it may be hard to test since I avoid chemicals for the most part (although some have worked in going gluten-free when looking for a fast replacement).
  13. Another thing - did they check her vitamin and iron (complete panel)? My mchc was off and that was part of my anemia. Anemia can throw off a few blood tests. Pre-diabetes can also. BUT, if the tests were run after the steroids it could be the steroids affecting her system and throwing off the tests.
  14. Two steroid shots? I had two steroid shots. First one was like someone slipped me something - whacked out for about 5 hours. Second one left me screwed up for days. And that was just the obvious effect. My blood work was messed up, can't remember exactly the weird combination of "off" but my ND asked if I was on steroids - this was 3 months after the...
  15. Yeah, I get it. You feel out of place and a bit awkward like a giant "C" is blinking on your forehead. Everyone wants to know why you aren't drinking? Just carry around a drink - a cheap can/bottle of something or a cup of mystery stuff (soda, whatever). Learn to deflect the questions. Counter with remarks that turn the convo around to the questioner....
  16. Sorry, got them reversed, and referenced my own mistake. Point is people respond to different types. Try both of them before you give up. I'm not here to argue with you IH. I'm attempting to support the info you gave the OP.
  17. Zantac is a type 1 blocker. Claritin is a type 2 blocker. People are responsive to different blockers - as Trish Trish found out. I believe she had been on type 2's only and they didn't work for her. Personally, I've tried 1's, 2's, and combos and funny enough none worked well at all for me until NOW. I am going to assume going gluten-free...
  18. If you have enviro allergies they can make you darn miserable. I resorted to Children's Claritin a week ago because I was desperate to figure out if I was experiencing a glutening or enviro allergies....and guess what, it helped alot of my problems! Now, I'm wondering what to DO with the info (antihistimes help me) but hey, I'll take the relief! Try...
  19. Yep, got to scroll to the bottom to find me - I need very little of the stuff.
  20. I know...they really aren't any different than traditional recipes except I switch flour out in the roux. The bread stuff...that will take a few years to figure out I'm sure!
  21. If you are staying somewhere with a kitchen you could cook - but that's hard to find there unless its a cottage or a liberal B&B. That's why I have hope of going back soon. My uncle still lives there....so he has a kitchen!
  22. Google gluten free New Orleans and I'm sure you'll find hints. Please post about your experience!!! It will be as hard as your choice of restaurants, I think. Stick to high-end ones and you'll fare better. There is a Whole Foods there. Do call ahead to your hotel and see of they can offer help.
  23. I had/have some puffiness that isn't all fat. About 2 months gluten-free my eyes started swelling from Devita skin care products that are labeled "gluten sensitive safe". They use regular oats and de-germed wheat germ oil. Was fine for years until 2 months gluten-free then whammy. So, you never know.... Btw it wasn't just "puffy", it was obviously...
  24. I think its great, and you are certainly deserving of his time.
  25. I had just mastered muffaletta bread for perfect sandwiches. And had my King Cakes down. I could have sold those things. At least I still have raw oysters.... Makes Mandinas a bit tough, though. And let's not talk about Brocato's. I bet CP could do gluten-free, and Emeril's and other high-end restaurants. I'm betting I can figure out gluten-free...
