ARCHIVED To Sals, Or Not To Sals!
squirmingitch replied to dani nero's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You know what's weird? 99% of the time that I eat a meal --- no sal, low sal, no iodine, low iodine --- whatever --- I get some itchiness for about 10 or 15 minutes. Then it goes away. Not bad itchy just "little tingles". My hubs noticed the same thing. We were talking about it yesterday. We were wondering if it might have anything to do with the food hitting... -

ARCHIVED So Confused About My Skin Condition. Could It Be Dh?
squirmingitch replied to ugoglenncoco's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It could very well be dh. It looks like what dh looks like at some stages for lots of people. Your ethnicity doesn't matter. The stats on the ethnicity are based upon DIAGNOSED celiacs. And we all know that doesn't give the true "big" picture. Not even for those of northern European heritage. We've had numerous African Americans on here who were told by... -
ARCHIVED To Sals, Or Not To Sals!
squirmingitch replied to dani nero's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm delighted to hear this but would give a word of caution Dani. Sals ARE cumulative. So take it slow & easy. Don't push the limits too hard. That was my problem with sals in the first place. I was eating everything sal! I was doing fine too. And then one day --- BOOM! Sal overdose b/c of the accumulation. I went low sal & was doing good again... -
ARCHIVED In Hindsigh, Maybe It Wasnt A Good Idea
squirmingitch replied to KMMO320's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I will echo what Jestgar says. Whine away. Sometimes we rant pretty good too! I know it's shocking at first. All I could think of was all the foods I could never have again. My favorite foods. The comfort foods. But it's weird --- I don't think about those things at all now. In fact, the thought of them turns me off. I've read quite a few who have said... -
LOL Marilyn, I picked up that avatar from public domain. However I am a gardener & used to be a beekeeper so it "fit". I'm between gardens right now --- moved & selling the old house & bought property & have to build a new house. Renting now. No gardening. Itching to dig in the dirt. I do love purple flowers though. I had purple thoughts...

ARCHIVED In Hindsigh, Maybe It Wasnt A Good Idea
squirmingitch replied to KMMO320's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's not happening out of nowhere. You said yourself : "The stomach thing has been going on for years" You have now progressed to the next stage where it has done so much damage to the intestines & is now doing damage to other parts of your body. And even that has been in progress --- it's just deteriorated to the point that you FEEL it now. -

ARCHIVED Feel Weird- 3Rd Week Of gluten-free Diet
squirmingitch replied to xxikayixx's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I call what you're feeling gluten withdrawal. I felt like that & then some. It lasts different for different people. But you will find plenty of discussion on it here in threads. Use the search box & put in gluten withdrawal or just withdrawal. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free-Now What?
squirmingitch replied to Twoxxmom's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, give the gluten free some time. Make sure you've cut all the gluten though. Then after about a month you can see how it's going. Keep a log. Take photos of the rash to help you judge at different stages. Then I would only cut the iodine if needed. And cutting the iodine is a temporary thing --- you don't do it forever. I will mention that you go LOW... -
Marilyn, I would wear a purple shirt if I had one I swear. I don't have a single thing purple colored, nor violet, nor lilac. I have a skin tone which is weird --- I put on any shade of purple & it literally makes my skin appear a sickly green shade. So no purple clothing comes in this house. But I will be thinking purple if that helps!

ARCHIVED Unclear Test Results
squirmingitch replied to SweetDream's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I needed a gluten-free, iodine free, soy free, multi. No iodine b/c I have dh (celiac rash). I went with Solgar brand "Vitamins Only" but they don't contain the minerals. Look on the board here --- use the search box & you'll come up with lots of Vitamins celiacs are using. -

They pretty much or a lot much mean Celiac. That's why everyone is saying welcome to the board which I will echo. Ask anything, anytime. And now is a good time to start reading a LOT of posts on here so you'll be ready after the endoscopy. Read the newbie 101 & everything you can read on here. You can start making lists now. That way you won't freak... -
ARCHIVED Unclear Test Results
squirmingitch replied to SweetDream's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to get a copy of the test results --- the written test results. You have a right to them under the HIPPA laws. You will have to sign a release but they can not keep them from you. I suspect they did not do the proper tests; not ALL of them. Get your copy & come back & post the results. People here can tell you what they mean & if they... -
I'm SOOOOOO glad you decided this! I think they will be happy to refund you especially if you can find something else to purchase for the same price or near so. Just explain to them that you missed the writing on the pkg. when you bought them. I'm sure they will understand. I can rest easy now. Sheesh! I was getting itchy just thinking about you eating...

I wouldn't give them away. I wouldn't try to wash & eat them either. I would take them back to the market & get my money back. Not worth the risk eatsmeat. Not worth the risk. You have done SO well lately. Nah, don't risk backsliding.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free A Little Over A Week And I Will Never Go Back
squirmingitch replied to Kallismom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
And I meant to say that your story is an inspiration! I have not improved as rapidly as you have but I have improved. You give me more hope. You hit the mark with the shoulder pain as I have the same condition. And I can't sleep on my side b/c it kills which ever shoulder I slept on. Oh I long for the day I can "roll over in bed" --- such a simple move I... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free A Little Over A Week And I Will Never Go Back
squirmingitch replied to Kallismom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Odd. I called Listerine & they were kind of wishy washy on the subject of being gluten-free. But Crest claims their mouthwashes ARE gluten-free. So we switched to Crest Pro Health but we got the alcohol free & are very happy with it. Maybe it was one of the flavorings in it or something which upset your tummy? My hubs especially likes the alcohol... -
Marilyn thanks for the post. Now I will know what to look for.

ARCHIVED Children With Dh

Thank you Prickly. She was only 32. Her liver shut down which in turn caused her kidneys to shut down. They made the decision to take her off life support. -
ARCHIVED Children With Dh
squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks you guys. And SPJ&E you did help so don't say you aren't. I just got word today that my nephews daughter had a bad episode which they had to take her to the hospital for. She broke out in a blistering rash & got a high fever so bad that she had seizures from it. My first thought was is this related to celiac? My nephew was offline for a while...
