ARCHIVED I Think I May Have Celiac Disease...
squirmingitch replied to Tillygirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
And Tillygirl, be FIRM with the doc about the tests especially the celiac panel. Don't just tell the doc this & this & this needs to be done --- when the doc says, "Okay I have ordered the tests", then you MAKE the doc repeat back which specific, individual tests enumerating each one by name. Otherwise you can find yourself dragging out the testing... -
ARCHIVED Thyroid +Gluten Withdrawl
squirmingitch replied to Mama of 6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can guarantee there is such a thing as gluten withdrawal! I've HAD it. And just read the posts on this board & see how many have gone through it. It's REAL & it EXISTS! If you haven't gone through gluten withdrawal then you are a rare bird & it does happen sometimes. I am overjoyed that you were spared the misery of that. Seriously, I mean... -
ARCHIVED My Initial Results
squirmingitch replied to dani nero's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yay for a magic button! Yeah boy! Unfortunately even if the blisters are surfaced it doesn't mean they will be any help. It's a sucko disease is what it is. Yes! We need more studies!!!!!!! But I will say this Dani & I believe it is true. I believe that it won't be toooo many years down the road before they come up with a way to diagnose celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED Iodine Free Multi Vitamins For Those With Dh
squirmingitch posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm posting this for those whose dh is affected by iodine. Since mine is & I know how hard it is to find iodine free, gluten-free multi vitamins then I have found 2 which fit the bill. 1) Solgar brand "Vitamins Only" which are also free of soy, yeast, wheat, gluten, dairy, artificial flavors, artificial colors, & artificial preservatives. 2... -
ARCHIVED My Initial Results
squirmingitch replied to dani nero's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dani dear, you have been gluten-free too long for a biopsy of the rash to be positive. And just eating some crackers to make the rash appear will not do it. You DO have to go full scale glutening yourself even for the dh biopsy. I'm sorry but just like your blood tests they will turn up neg. b/c you have been gluten-free. Lord knows, I wish that were not... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Today
squirmingitch replied to MistyRG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Misty, SURE looks & sounds like dh to me & I outta know! Go gluten free immediately! You now know you have the antibodies in your skin --- the rash is telling you that. Take it from me --- you don't want it to go any farther! It's going to take a while for the antibodies to leave your skin as it is; please quit gluten now & try to save yourself... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Get Rid Of Bloating!?
squirmingitch replied to Kirstie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
And soy products too if you have not already eliminated them. When I had my colonoscopy I was worried about bloat as I had friends who had terrible bloat pain from colonoscopy. The nurse told me to lay on my left side & draw my knees up as close as I could to my chest. It WORKS! Not your right side but your left side. -
ARCHIVED 5 Year Old Boy, And Possibly Me?
squirmingitch replied to Irishgirl76's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Okay, I found 2 of them. I know I have 3. Will have to hunt further. Here is one. Read dwon just before the chart to where it says" In children, celiac disease tests may be ordered when a child exhibits:" And see it says " Autoantibody levels should initially be ordered when a person still has gluten in their diet. Positive or indeterminate results... -

ARCHIVED Epic Fails: Soggy Crepes And Horrible Waffles
squirmingitch replied to birdie22's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
YVW birdie! We also use the Bisquick for pancakes following the recipe on the box & we swear they are better than gluten pancakes & I'm a pancake freak. Also mash bananas in that too sometimes (we like bananas- can ya tell?). I make the pancakes just slightly thicker than the recipe though but only a tiny bit. I haven't tried to do any yet that... -

ARCHIVED 5 Year Old Boy, And Possibly Me?
squirmingitch replied to Irishgirl76's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
NO! I can provide documentation that you need to be actively consuming gluten for a while EVEN to get the rash biopsy. I'm really pressed fro time at the moment & will be most of the day so I can't locate those medical ref. to support what I'm saying right this moment. Will get to it asap. -

ARCHIVED 5 Year Old Boy, And Possibly Me?
squirmingitch replied to Irishgirl76's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Because your son was gluten-free (gluten free) the crackers won't give him a positive biopsy. You have to be actively eating gluten for 2 months at least & at 3 or 4 slices of bread a day. Even then the biopsies are notoriously negative --- 37% false neg. rate. BUT, that may be why he tested neg. on the blood work. Celiacs with dh tend to test neg. on... -

What a horrid, horrid dream! I was so happy to come to consciousness & discover it was all a dream! Whew! Yes, dh has a mind alllll of it's own.

Aerial, Yes, low iodine for a week or two & then in moderation. We only need 150 mcg per day in the first place --- I wonder JUST how many mcg the ave. person consumes per day? I am li right now & am about to come off it as my 2 weeks is up. I seem to have a continual running dh (not nearly as bad as it was in the beginning!) & need a break from...
