ARCHIVED 6 years of battling
squirmingitch replied to Mctutu's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
60% of celiacs with dh test negative on the celiac serum panel. This may be why you tested negative. I would agree that a dh biopsy sounds like the best route. They take it NEXT to an active lesion NOT ON one. Be sure that's how they do it or it will come back negative.- 2 replies

Peanut butter on apple slices or bananas. Waffles. Hash browns - shredded potato. Have you tried just giving her egg whites -- no yolk? Maybe she would like them. Why does breakfast always have to be traditional breakfast food? How about a PBJ for breakfast or a BLT? How about tacos or burritos? -
ARCHIVED 1 year of hell...Celiac?
squirmingitch replied to SillyWilly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know it's a b%$@# to go through. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Some people find it easier to eat the bread before going to bed; they find it helps the worst of the symptoms b/c you're sleeping (hopefully) so when you get up it's not as bad as if you ate the bread during the day. Keep calling the GI doc for a cancellation -- call every... -
ARCHIVED 1 year of hell...Celiac?
squirmingitch replied to SillyWilly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You need to keep eating gluten until all testing is complete and that doesn't mean just eat some the last few days before testing. Please don't make the mistake so many others have done & think you can "cheat" the system by only having gluten for a couple days before testing for if you do; then you may cheat your son & future children in the end. ... -
ARCHIVED Alcohol
squirmingitch replied to Missque's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You're safe with Vodka and Rum. Not so sure about the mixes. I'm not much of a drinker either and haven't checked out mixes since dx. You could easily go with Black or White Russians. Nice & sweet! I know you said you're not a fan of wines but have you ever had Plum Wine? If you like sweet you ought to try it. It's not like any other wine you've... -

ARCHIVED Gigi's cupcakes - avoid their gluten free cupcakes!
squirmingitch replied to Gardenmamarama's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
This situation with your daughter is a real shame! On the other hand, it was a lesson well learned for her. I also feel horrible for the mom who thought she was being so considerate as to make sure your daughter had a cupcake she could eat too. It'a a really tough situation all the way around. I quoted Karen's post because she is exactly right about... -
Get your affairs in order
squirmingitch replied to bartfull's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Our dearest Bartful - Alison - went to her heavenly rest on May 21, 2016. She was 61. She was so much more than statistics. She was kind, generous, loving, giving and understanding. She gave everything of herself and never asked for anything for herself. Rest in peace dear Alison. -
ARCHIVED Yep, Gluten Free To Be Skinny -facepalm-
squirmingitch replied to TwelfthLady's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wish I had a nickel for every time someone told me to eat some cake pre-dx! I could out eat 2 grown men, it didn't make any difference in my weight. Neither of my parents were overweight. Genetics & metabolism. -

Celiac Sensitivity?
squirmingitch replied to Zozo16's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm going to amend cyclinglady's comment: Science has determined that MOST celiacs can handle about 20 parts per milllion (size of a crumb) before setting off a reaction. There are some who can't even handle the 20ppm. The FDA had to come up with some kind of a cut off point and 20ppm is what the final ruling was on labeling foods gluten free. That... -
ARCHIVED 85% Chance of Celiac According to DR Does it Explain Everything?
squirmingitch replied to loca5790's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Whoa, whoa, whoa!!!! Did you already get the blood work taken????? If not then you need to get back on gluten ASAP if not sooner!!!!! You can NOT go off gluten until ALL testing is done unless you want false negatives. Secondly, what is this 85% positive for celiac that the doc says the endoscopy revealed. He did 1 biopsy? Or more than one? Normal stomach... -
ARCHIVED Cast Iron Cookware
squirmingitch replied to TheBajan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Many people here are still using their cast iron they had pre celiac. Yes, you put them in the oven on the clean cycle & then re-season afterward. I don't know how hot for how long so can't answer your question. -
ARCHIVED Enteroscopy
squirmingitch replied to Sterling's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sterling, please continue to update when you do your follow up testings. This is indeed fascinating. You are so very fortunate to have doctors who didn't shut down the minute your endoscopy was negative. I'm impressed! -

ARCHIVED DH?? Are you kidding?
squirmingitch replied to TheBajan's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
There are many rashes & skin conditions that are associated with celiac disease. The dh rash has some hallmarks. Bilateral - appears on both sides of the body in the same location ie: both elbows, both sides of the neck, both hands, both thighs. It eerily echoes or ghosts itself. It's the darndest thing I've ever seen! The itch is bone deep. Think rolling... -

ARCHIVED Possible past IBS diagnosis wrong might be Celiac
squirmingitch replied to Awol cast iron stomach's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am a bit blunt when it comes to things like your sister the nurse doing what she's doing. Next time she did that I would flat out look her straight in the eye & tell her to back the eff off! That's just me. Seems like ever since menopause I don't have the slightest trouble telling people just where to step off. I don't get violent & certainly not...- 10 replies

ARCHIVED Possible past IBS diagnosis wrong might be Celiac
squirmingitch replied to Awol cast iron stomach's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Does your cousin know that all her/his first degree relatives should be tested for celiac every 2 years in the absence of symptoms and immediately if symptoms present? I simply cannot understand extended family members who refuse to acknowledge it's possible for you to be celiac in light of the fact that your cousin is dx'd celiac. Are they stupid? However...- 10 replies

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Awol}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} You story sounds so familiar here. Countless times I have read the same or similar from people coming here. Years of suffering because no docs took you seriously or didn't test or poo pooed the notion or didn't know to test. You are so very lucky to have the staunch support of your husband...- 10 replies
