  1. You're welcome! I throw them in while it's heating, so you can start timing when it all comes to a boil and you turn down the heat and cover it to simmer. There's also a thread in the Recipes section of the forum titled something like 'I'm tired of cooking!' where a lot of people contributed good ideas, including crock-pot recipes. I'll even look it up for...
  2. It certainly sounds like it very likely could be related to gluten. I agree with what ravenwoodglass said. Do you have the actual test results with reference ranges, or can you get them, and then post them here? I know there's one test (IGG I think?) that is most specific to gluten antibodies, so if it's elevated at all (equivocal I think they call it)...
  3. All I wanted to add is that I agree with rosetapper23. Don't wait until you get insurance to start eating gluten-free, and after you're eating gluten-free any test (except genetic) would come out negative. And many of us (including me) can look back and wish we'd have known sooner...but we're on our road to health now. That's what is important.
  4. Are you in an apartment or a dorm? Do you have or can you get a crockpot? A lot of folks on here swear by them, I'm in a small apartment / kitchen and budget, so a crock-pot is on my wish-list! My one easy tip is putting frozen veggies (such as peas or green beans or whatever you like) in with my rice while I'm bringing the water to a boil. I don't add any...
  5. Hi, it looks like I got to this thread a bit late. And you've already gotten some great relies. I did want to suggest that perhaps you could get a DH diagnosis easier than being diagnosed through the blood tests and GI. I'm not sure if that's possible in England, where it sounds like you're from? Basically DH = celiac, from what I've read. Also, if the...
  6. It's also quite possible there's some other ingredient that's bothering you, which might take a bit of detective work to figure out. You might want to keep track in a food diary, along with ingredients of what you're eating. Or check the items you eat frequently and see if they have one or more ingredients in common. The best bet may be to figure out...
  7. Not to mention, it even states in the article that they created a hybrid that would grow in high arsenic soil, so obviously they know about it. The more I study, the more I seriously question the morality and ethics of many of those who supply our food. Wouldn't it be nice to make sure those growers of rice in high arsenic soil are required to eat their own...
  8. Thanks for sharing, that's very useful info.
  9. For your growling tummy you might want to try some digestive enzymes. They help me with gas, and I sometimes take them after I eat if I'm getting gassy. I use the Source Naturals, and just got a new bottle in a vegetarian capsule (I'm not vegetarian, but I'm trying to avoid gelatin caps). It says they contain no yeast, dairy, egg, gluten, corn, soy or wheat...
  10. Not I, except when I was experimenting with Henna many years back. Otherwise, I'm currently what is termed 'salt & pepper' I believe, brunette with a little more grey than I'd like! I have some new 'sprouts' right in front that appear to be coming in brown!
  11. I have found myself being gassy with probiotics. I had been taking Udo's choice for a few days, but since they didn't specifically say they were gluten-free and due to the gas, I found another one to try; futurebiotics Acidophilus. The label says contains no added milk or dairy, sugar, salt, starch, wheat, gluten, soy, artificial colors or preservatives....
  12. I hope you can get to the dermatologist soon! In the meantime, in another thread squirmingitch mentioned using Orajel to stop the itch. I also found that some lotion with tea tree oil helped stop the itch and add some moisture, long enough for me to sleep. Keep us posted.
  13. That was actually my thought, also. The nuclear plants at Fukushima are still emitting large amounts of radiation, and from recent articles I've seen (Open Original Shared Link) the status of 'cold shutdown' may be questionable. So, it may depend where in northern Japan you are, check out this site: Open Original Shared Link My personal suggestion would...
  14. Your being on a gluten-free diet for a month prior to your tests could make a big difference in some of the testing, it sounds to me like your doc is on top of it. Celiac can actually cause elevated liver enzymes, I think there's a recent thread on here with some details about that. If you're having an endoscopy soon, continue to eat gluten!
  15. PPM = parts per million. The 20 ppm is the FDA proposed standard for testing in the U.S.A.. However, some people are sensitive even up to that threshold, so it's hard to say. I personally haven't tried those crackers but I've seen several comment that they're fine with them. Generally, the gluten level if you want to be 100% gluten-free, would be 0%. That...
  16. I did a ton of searching on here when I was searching for possible recipes for making bread. It's a work in progress. However, I made some text doc's with links to a couple of threads -- here's a blend by RiceGuy with his blend that doesn't have starches: And here's a link for Open Original Shared Link, haven't tried them myself though.
  17. After about the first 2-3 weeks, I started getting minor headaches. They weren't really bad, it was almost like the ones I've had after having a fever. I suspect it was from reduced inflammation. And they only lasted about a week or so, I think. And for a few days somewhere around that time, I would get very tired in the late afternoon. That also didn't...
  18. It sounds like it could be either one. Does the probiotic specifically say it's gluten-free? Some people do react to tomatoes, too. (As mushroom said above.) The only way to really know is to eliminate one or both of them for a few days, and then try one or the other (but not both), and wait a day or 2 before trying the other one. Whatever it is, it may...
  19. LOL, y'all are funny. Thankfully my cup that used to have tea in it is empty or I'd have STK ? I wanted to add one more possible meaning for GI, I realized it might be used on here too after I saw it on the Wheat Belly Blog. Open Original Shared Link (aka GI)
  20. Also, have you tested any of your intolerances after a few months on the gluten-free diet? Frequently when you're well along in your healing, some of the foods that bothered you should be o.k. now. At least that's what I've read and heard. I'm just a little over 3 months gluten-free myself and still testing some things. I just added sorghum to my diet. I...
  21. Yes, and Yes. Anxiety following a whole wheat bagel for breakfast is what led me to realize I had a problem with wheat. It was several years before I realized I needed to totally quit all gluten, though. And being as tired as I was much of the time was very depressing! Also, I sometimes do some coaching for emotional stuff, and have suggested to some...
  22. Dear Mushroom, doesn't OP mean original poster? (as in, if I hijack this thread and take it off topic, we might want to get back to the OP's question...) And while we're talking about acronyms, I've discovered that the software for these forums will automatically spell out a couple of them, so you can save some typing and just use the abbreviation. One...
  23. Do you take any supplements? There might be something in one of them contributing to the brain-fog?
  24. I'm sorry you feel so icky. I'm also sorry they didn't have what you needed at the store. Hope to hear you're feeling better in the next few days!
  25. You might want to try eliminating soy, also, if you haven't already? Easier said than done, but I've even gotten pretty good at making my own mayo, though I think you can sometimes find a soy-free mayo too. Soy does have some estrogenic effects. Open Original Shared Link
