  1. What other people said; winter means less sun on your skin so you're going to have less D. It's, like, supposed to be deficient in everyone who lives in cold climates during winter. Also I've heard it takes awhile for the intestines to get themselves back, so you will still have absorption issues, in general, until then. I think, also though, in order to...
  2. Well I keep finding the same copy-paste thing about in order for something to be labelled as gluten-free in the states, it only needs less than 200mg/serving, or maybe 200ppm or something, and that those are the standards they follow for labelling themselves as gluten-free. Something like that. I do know that caffeine and sugar were the 2 things that initially...
  3. Aren't parents AWESOME?!! I know the pinch of money and school and parents and living with them, its all still fresh in my mind years later. Your bf sounds pretty nice, is it viable to move in with him? Is it viable to simply move out by yourself? Neither of these options means you have to get a job, you will just have to borrow more money for rent, and...
  4. Yes, it is the worst when family and friends don't understand or accept the way you are. If you know you feel badly when eating gluten, they shouldn't question it. Most importantly, don't question yourself. Yes, placebo's exist, but not, that doesn't mean what you have is 'in your head'. Especially since I'm not sure how much study there has been on long...
  5. omg, I hope you start to feel better! If you can load up on the meat, do it. Even better, go buy some organic liver. Beef I think is most nutritious, but chicken or lamb is supposed to be the tastiest. Pork liver is supposed to be the worse. I like liver best in pate form...which is probably what you'll need to eat it in due to your mouth. A tasty pate...
  6. I don't know how to make a homebrewed rootbeer, but you should look that up. Barring that, there are a number of possibilities that may seem safe, but depending on brand, might not be, like the salad dressing, the feta, and the chicken. Barring that, you may have just encountered some cross-contamination since it sounds like you ate out.
  7. I just called my favorite Tofu company, Unisoya, to double-check if their tofu has any gluten. Unisoya tofu is all gluten free, however their sausages have wheat. I have never bought their sausages, but I suspect wheat would be on the ingredient list for them anyways. It was my first phonecall to a company about their product (there was no email), and...
  8. Not sure about my glutened symptoms yet, still not sure if I actually ate gluten or not. Could either be from a lot of Coke (everyone complains it's not 100% gluten-free, just legally gluten-free), and/or margarine that was lactose free but not labelled as gluten free. (Vegetable monoglycerides were on the label.) Initially I just got bloating and headaches...
  9. Thanks for the post! gluten-free 2 months only, and I think I screwed up in there recently, and I'm also just getting over a nasty flu. Funny thing is that I got the intestinal pain I used to have 90% of the time when I was sick. (Still have some now actually.) I was very worried that the gluten I may have eaten caused the flu symptoms. It seemed kinda...
  10. This thought has occurred to me too, however, mainly in the hopes that I won't have to start eating gluten again! My bloodwork showed up positive for celiac in early Jan. As soon as it was found, I was told to go completely gluten free. However, due to the horrible lack of doctors where I live, I'm still waiting for an appointment (which itself may be...
  11. Yeah I know this is old, but might still be pertinent to browsers. I'm no expert, but coffee and caffeine itself is a nervous system stimulant, so celiac or not, it can cause you to run to the bathroom for #2. If you drink it all the time and then go off it, you can find that you're constipated without it; has happened to me occasionally. Coffee's been a...
  12. Wish I could be of more help, any info I give you is what I can glean from online sources. Firstly, IgA is not the same as transglutiminase IgA. Open Original Shared Link tells the difference; transglutiminase IgA is probably best to be known as tTG. So if you're only seeing part of the tests, or the doctor's mumbling the results, you don't remember exactly...
  13. ... The doctor's mad to NOT be concerned about your thyroid being outside the range. Like seriously...why do they have a range if they don't even pay attention to it? It's not even borderline, it's definitely low. Thyroid problems and celiac disease go hand in hand. I wouldn't be clamouring for all these detox things just yet, not until you get your iron...
  14. How long have you been gluten-free? I certainly was seeing the sheen on top of the water before being diagnosed, still see it occasionally now too, but only been 2 months for me. Stimulants can make you go more often. Do you find those mornings when you're going a lot you've had a coffee, or alcohol the previous day, or a lot of sugar? The white flecks...
  15. So there's lots on here about people associating headaches with eating gluten, but I have the opposite problem. I've been gluten-free almost 2 months now, and I haven't had headaches this frequent since I was a kid. (I'd get them all the time as a kid, especially in summer.) I thought that maybe it was bananas, because I swear I've had headaches caused...
  16. During my blood test for celiac disease, the nurse asked me if I was on any blood thinners. I'm assuming my blood was thin, not thick. After she asked I looked over and it seemed to look kinda watery, but it had also separated a lot. Wouldn't it make sense if you're anemic (or close to it), like many celiacs become while still eating gluten, that the blood...
  17. Because I tell someone about it and they still don't get it. When you tell someone something, you expect that they'd get it. For instance when I was talking about getting an appointment with a gastroenterologist, my mother inlaw was like 'Oh, so you're not certain that you have it?', despite me saying that I had blood tests showing that I did. It's the feeling...
  18. Well, stoli is made from wheat, and maybe you have a wheat issue not just a gluten one. But I don't like that explanation really-the alcohol shouldn't really have much, if anything, from the stuff it's made from. I've only been gluten-free a month, and although my near constant abdominal pain is only an occasional one now, I have been getting some pretty...
  19. Aurora bouillon cubes seem to all be gluten free. You can search all Aurora's products at their website and even though they don't list all ingredients, they do say if the product is gluten free.
  20. I'm a very newly diagnosed celiac, and as such I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to feel like, or what being glutened feels like, and I myself had never noticed any particular reaction if I ate a lot of bread or pasta etc. before being diagnosed. That said, a few years ago when I started feeling bloated the majority of the time, I thought I noticed that...
  21. Well, I went out last night, and I ended up getting egg foo young without the gravy the restaurant usually serves on it. My bf called a couple hours before we went out to ask if a couple of my favorite dishes were gluten free, and unfortunately they weren't. (stupid curry powder with flour, grr) I then tried to order an omelette with potatoes (they make...
  22. So I'm a newly diagnosed celiac, and I love to eat out. I'm not even a particularly shy person either; I'll ask for substitutions for food, have sent food back (rarely), ask questions, etc to my waiter/ress. However, I'm feeling lost as to what to do when I'm at a non-chain restaurant, and there's dishes that I suspect might be gluten free, exactly how do...
  23. I dunno about you, but I've specifically upped my supplement intake since finding out I'm a celiac. Afterall, the fact that I wasn't digesting things properly gave me the idea to be tested for celiacs. I figure if I've had years of nutrients not being absorbed, I should be trying to get as many as I can. Being 'run-down' constantly is my main health complaint...
  24. It makes me crazy too, however that it makes me crazy doesn't mean that nothing out there is accurate. I have an instant distrust for anything that I know is pushed or made by a pharmaceutical company (when you've been on drugs that are suppsoed to be safe and it turns out they aren't and it's clear that somehow someone just 'forgot' to mention symptoms in...
