  1. You're right in that celiac disease causes malabsorption which includes fat malabsorption which can cause someone to have diarrhea. However I don't think things like stomach pains, headaches, sore joints, diarrhea, brain fog, etc, that celiacs get after just 1 exposure to gluten have much to do with damaged villi. It's pretty clear there are other reactions...
  2. You're 'mostly' gluten free right now? This may be part of the reason you're not getting any better. A dose of 10mg of gluten, around 1/9-1/10g of flour is enough to cause intestinal damage. So while your intestines might begin to heal, (slowly), almost immediately once gluten is out of your system, even minute amounts of it added will just damage them again...
  3. Know is thread is old, but it's still the first hit in google for 'is bacon gluten free' and I do have some input. BF recently bought the Maple Leaf Naturals bacon, which has Naturals gluten-free weiners, so he thought the bacon was also gluten free. Unfortunately the ingredient list was unclear, go 'spices'! I emailed Maple Leaf and they said that the...
  4. When I was gluten-free before getting biopsy done, I was lactose free. I would actually notice when I had products with lactose in them by accident and have stomach cramps (dark chocolate with butter fat, oops). But all the same, my lactose free milk made my tongue feel super dry and a little swollen. I also didn't notice a whole lot of difference once...
  5. Wish I had any advice. Sounds scary. Let's hope it's just migraines and not MS.
  6. You should probably be off dairy anyways. The IgA in celiacs frequently react to caseins in dairy, not just gluten. (From what I've read it isn't a 100% for certain thing though...still trying to get proper science data on it myself) Open Original Shared Link First hit I found in google. Its much like going gluten free, really. Lots of things you wouldn...
  7. 'Suffer' through gluten-free food my ass. Oh noes, roast and potatoes! Sooooo terrible! Vegetables not deep-fried in batter? How could you! Geez, even when I was eating gluten and had no idea I had celiac there were days I wouldn't have ingested any. Especially for supper foods. At least you can be thankful that he's NOT cooking and possibly making cross...
  8. The only testimony I've read regarding candida that revolved around a doctor and it clearing helping was someone on yahoo answers who had an external yeast infection on his privates and he also didn't feel that great. His doctor diagnosed it as candida, gave him some pills for it, and he felt better again as well as clearing up the outward candida. Whiteness...
  9. So I'm dairy free, and I've finally done a bit of my own research about why casein is bad. This is the type of trustworthy info I've come up with. Open Original Shared Link Unfortunately I can't read the whole article (although I did get to read the first page on the right over there), and it really makes me wonder about ever being about eat dairy again...
  10. 1. You aren't the only person to complain about celiac disease showing up positive in blood tests and symptoms but then have negative genetic results show up. 2. Your doctor is the first I've heard say that there's a 100% agreement with genes and celiac disease. The wikipedia article disagrees with your doctor. "There are seven HLA-DQ variants...
  11. Well, *I think* where you're describing is where the start of your small intestines are, the area where the doctors take biopsies from, and where villous atrophy is supposed to first show up. If you're getting the antibody reaction strongly from glutening, then your intestinal flora can get all messed up too, and I see no reason why only some sections of...
  12. Wow, that's freaky and must have been terrifying, but also fascinating! (I was on my way to being a cognitive psychology professor before my mental and physical health declined from what I now know is celiac disease.) I have never heard of things like this before beyond, as you've said LSD/other hallucinogens or brain damage, so I'm guessing it's not very...
  13. Yeah, despite all my rambling about hypothyroidism, plain old nutrient deficiencies seem far more likely to be the culprit of shortness of breath.
  14. Hmmm, I had no idea that gluten could make such BAD memory problems...sigh, yet another sign that my dad is also a celiac yet he won't get tested. I haven't been gluten-free long enough to get better. 2.5 months before starting it again for my biopsies (well, I probably had CC then anyways) wasn't enough to lift my brain fog. Day 2 of my REAL gluten...
  15. Mammoth post! I had a lot to say :-p Bottom section is about hypothyroidism if you wanna skip all the crap about my life. I am one of the lucky ones with understanding parents, apparently. (Well, not necessarily completely understanding, I'm going to have to go over with my mom at least once more just how sensitive celiacs really to avoid CC when eating...
  16. And, to answer my question, I called up Canadian customer service regrading Butler products and the woman on the phone said none of their products contain gluten or latex. I enquired specifically about their Prophy paste (what my dentist uses that I was questioning), but she answered me generally.
  17. I'm a nub, I found info on their website.
  18. I know this is an ancient thread, but I can't seem to find info anywhere else. My dentist uses Sunstar, Butler brand toothpaste or toothpaste-like stuff to clean my teeth, and the ingredients have artificial color and flavour so they might not be gluten-free, and their website, sunstar.com, doesn't appear to have any contact info. They also provide...
  19. As said before, chocolate's a big thing. I thought that most dark chocolate would be dairy free, but apparently the vast majority of it isn't. Anything with with whey powder, used in smoothies and a lot of protein/energy bars that have muscled men on the packages, but also just put into regular foods too. Lactose, skim milk powder, casein, are all that...
  20. Sorry for posting here first, this was just the first website where it cropped up, but I do realize now that it's something on my computer only as all the websites I'm going to have it.
  21. I too don't get noticeably immediate symptoms from eating gluten. Unlike you, however, I had positive bloodwork and now I have a positive visual. I didn't even really notice how much better I HAD felt being gluten-free until I started to eat gluten again for my scope. And even then, it took at least a week for me to really notice. Some common celiac...
  22. So in a couple of posts I've read and made, words are becoming links. Is this a new thing endorsed by the site? It's really, really awful, but you think that the person actually made their own hyperlink to something pertinent and useful, but it's actually just spam that has nothing to do with anything, they aren't even gluten-free or celiac related. I...
  23. But you said he doesn't even listen to other dietary restrictions, so I don't know why trying to change his diet in other ways will suddenly appeal to him. I understand stubborn parents. My dad refuses to get tested for celiac disease (despite his various symptoms of it and him being my dad and all), especially since my mom's tested negative for it, and...
  24. So I just had my biopsy today. Before even getting the biospy samples back the dr concluded I have celiac disease. On my sheet it also says I have 'nodularity of ileum', and I got a sheet about IBS. The doctor said he talked to me, and I vaguely remember talking, but I was doped up and short-term amnesia's common with the stuff I was on, and when I came...
  25. For flours there's a number of different options that are grain free that you should be able to buy from a store: Tapioca flour, potato flour (both are pretty blank in taste). Also a couple different chickpea flours, but these have a flavour and I would be careful in what you use it in. All of are very fine, and so could be used in place of cornstarch or...
