  1. I wish I could get my t3 checked
  2. An interesting hypothesis. Have you read about other antibodies being reduced due to tonsils being out, either in conjunction with any other illness or just in general? I have my tonsils, and my antibodies were pretty high. I have no idea what my genetics are. If you are responding to a gluten free diet, you are likely a celiac. If your next endo shows your...
  3. Ibuprofen is my go-to pain killer, which means I used it for cramps and headaches mainly. Works really really well, although I find it wears off 4 3 hours after it's kicked in. I thought Aleve was ibuprofen. Motrin is ibuprofen. Rexall ibuprofen is gluten-free last I looked, or at least no gluten ingredients in it. Tylenol doesn't do a thing for me. Not...
  4. Since you were dx'd as a celiac I take it you had a positive biopsy at the start? What did you small intestine look like then? My understanding is that celiac disease doesn't have to have a visual in order for it to not exist. That's why the biopsies exist and why we all don't get pill cams instead. (well I also think pill cams are expensive) It really...

    ARCHIVED Alcohol

I personally don't think that distilled alcohols are safe. Every different brand of vodka tastes different because of what's in there besides just the alcohol and water, even while they're all distilled. Hard alcohols do get distilled, but they get stuff added back into them, stuff which could be separated off if they wanted to, but often they don't because...
  6. On the topic of candles, does anyone know if run-of-the-mill birthday candles are gluten free? Making a birthday cake here. I'm having a hard time finding if candles in general are gluten free, (not including scented candles). I can always wrap the bottoms in aluminum foil or just eat a non-candle piece for myself, but I'd still like to know. As for scented...
  7. I'm taking my first prescription drugs since being diagnosed, nitrofurantoin for a UTI. The drug only has no gluten added, but it's not necessarily gluten free. I didn't know what to do, the pharmacist was stupidly saying that there's cross contamination in everything and there's always a risk, (I am not eating any manufactured food where the company doesn...
  8. I've heard that the standards for dissolved particulates in bottled water are far less stringent than what the standards are for tap water, and each brand of bottled water will be different, just like each city's tap water will be different. But of course what is in each will be different too, and just because FDA standards or something are less stringent...
  9. oh probably. I really dunno though, I don't have much in the way of skin issues or use many cleansers or make-up etc. I wouldn't necessarily rush to gluten being the cause though. There's a ton of chemicals in cleansers that people are sensitive to, whether they've figured out what that thing is or not. Gluten-free is a starting place though. As with all...
  10. I have definitely read that going gluten free can help hypothyroidism, I think because gliadin is supposed to look like thyroid cells or something (how can gluten seemingly resemble EVERYTHING?). In any case, regardless, if gluten itself can make hypothyroidism worse or even cause it, it makes sense that eating gluten might have helped hyperthyroidism. I...
  11. Very frustrating. I try to just say the idea and hope that someone might make actually get tested properly for it. It's too frustrating.
  12. I want to wait until I both feel better and the endoscopy comes back clean. I suspect this will be more than a year for me, but you never know. I haven't talked about it with a doctor though. I 100% think you should wait, just not sure how long. I don't think your baby will right if you're still not nourished right.
  13. I too worry about what I might eat if I get too drunk or too depressed. That feeling that I'm not getting any better, so it doesn't matter anyways, might as well eat! (And I totally have a poor track record with doing extremely detrimental things like that when depressed; quitting jobs for instance.) Ugh, the dreams are bad too. I'll have taken a bite...
  14. I was missing periods and had like 40 day cycles, a couple months gluten and dairy free and they're 28 days.
  15. Benni: Trying to find some actual studies about single doses of gluten. Open Original Shared Link 30 years old and rather odd, but demonstrates intestinal changes from one dose of 30g of gluten. They find differences in permeability of molecules due to the gluten, stuff that I hadn't realized was studied 30 years ago, I thought that was all just recent...
  16. I think someone didn't calculate the 1/8 tsp of flour properly or something. A teaspoon of flour is ~2.5 grams. 1/8 of 2.5g is 0.3125grams. Flour is ~10% gluten, usually a little less, sometimes more in pastry flour. 10% of 0.3125 is 0.03125 grams, or 31.25mg of gluten. The quote was that 1/8 tsp of flour is around 10mg. 10mg of gluten, from what I've calculated...
  17. Blargh, I can't believe the doctor didn't test you for celiac disease, even bothered to take a biopsy and stuff from you. I take it your other biopsy for whatever it was they were testing didn't turn up anything? I'd get back on him to test you for celiac disease. In the meantime, I hope keeping gluten and lactose out will make you feel better. Good news...
  18. Are your probiotics from dairy and does dairy cause you problems? I think most probiotics are originally bacteria taken from milk. At least many of the bottles I see on the shelf say they contain dairy and should be avoided by anyone with a milk allergy. And I don't feel all that great on them either, although not as badly as you.
  19. Huh. I was gluten-free for 2.5 months and then ate gluten for 3mo (and one week in there I didn't have any either) and my intestines looked so bad he didn't even need the biopsy. I'm certain that some people need more time though, and it seems likely 3 months wasn't nearly enough time for me to heal properly. There's lots of controversy around what time...
  20. I had the same questions as you do about high IgA levels. It's complicated and only very recent research seems to be looking into it. High IgA values is the standard celiac screening blood test, and it is the only one that I received and would receive where I live in New Brunswick Canada. When my IgA test came back really high, my GI didn't even tell...
  21. I can't find the lactose in peanut butter and celery, so not sure about that making you sick. That said I don't think it's too soon for lactose intolerance, you would already likely be lactose intolerant if you are a celiac. Is this unusual for you to have to go to the bathroom, and so it stands out now? Or is it that you expected to only have these symtoms...

ARCHIVED How To Trust Doctors Again?

It's a matter of trying to not stereotype. There's lots of bad doctors out there just like there are lots of bad contractors and bad fast food workers. But there can be really good ones too. Each person is an individual, doctors too. It can also be a relationship with a doctor that's bad too. Like pretend you go to a new one, and you're snarky and already...
  23. That's totally it heathenly, at least for my sister. We're very similar, and I know the feelings. With my sister it's really been her whole life, her generally unhappy mood is like a part of her. Like, if you tell someone things could be better if they just put a huge amount of effort into something when a) the person doesn't necessarily think there's anything...
  24. My sister. Allergies to multiple things in grade school. Has been sad essentially her entire life. (My old nanny calls up and she reminisced about how my sister would come home from school and say 'I'm sad' all the time.) She's never been able to get rid of her eczema. Anyone who knows her knows she's incredibly prickly and unpleasant to be around most of...
  25. Yeah, they really suck. Ibuprofen and coffee were my period sustenants. Funny thing with the chocolate. I've got a relative who was on strong pain meds for years, they messed up her period completely, she thought she went through menopause but it turned out that it was just the meds. Anyways, she got off those meds for awhile, and lo and behold, the day...
