ARCHIVED Kraft Mac&cheese Topping (Discontinued)

Bulk barn has cheese sauce poweder, but that's taking a risk even if it is gluten free on its own. -
ARCHIVED Should I Be Gluten Free While Waiting For Biopsy?
cavernio replied to JessF's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
'just' gluten intolerance is very real. Poorly understood, not medically diagnosed usually, but it still appears to be an auto-immune disorder. However, getting diagnosed for certain will ensure you get proper treatment later on in life. I don't know how young you can begin testing for celiac in kids, but there's a 10% chance you kid is/will be celiac. Probably... -
ARCHIVED Random Patches Of Skin Pain
cavernio posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've had this issue for a very, very long time. I woke up this morning with it and I thought I should ask the celiacs out there if this is a symptoms you've had. I haven't told a doctor because it is so intermittent and well, pain is 1 or 2 out of 10, so not really a bother and I've, quite frankly, never thought about it when going to see one. Happens maybe... -
Mouth feels like cotton, especially tongue, and general blah feeling. Not sure if it's casein or just general milk protein, but it's all the same in terms of what I eat. I should also note that this comes from sure experience. I haven't been nearly as careful about dairy as gluten, so I have quite a few examples of when I ate something with dairy that I...

ARCHIVED Tips For Switching A Household Of 6 To Gluten-Free
cavernio replied to DinkerGiggles's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dunno where you're from but in atlantic canada root vegetables and cabbage are super cheap in winter. Potatoes, turnip, parsnips, onions, squash, carrots, green or purple cabbage, local apples. Always buy the veggies that are on sale. If you have time you can shop daily or near daily and use the reduced price produce at your local store, since it usually... -
ARCHIVED Certified Gluten Free Oats - How Much Is Ok?
cavernio replied to gluten-is-kryptonite's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Don't eat them won't try since diagnosis. GI actually told me to not even try either. My sister has serious skin issues when she eats oats also. -

ARCHIVED Help! So Many Symptoms, Gluten-Free Not Helping...
cavernio replied to lil'chefy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So many things. I have dx'd celiac disese and I've been gluten-free for almost 7 months. Not, it's not 13 months, but I still feel like crap, but I'm not about to order a regular pizza with cheese. The longer you eat gluten with a gluten problem, the longer it's going to take you to heal. It's taken you 23 years to get the point that you don't make hormones... -
ARCHIVED Royally Screwed Up. Do You Get This Symptom?
cavernio replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I used to get all sorts of weird and whacky lower abdominal pains. Still do, and not just during my period. I used to get pain along left side where my colon is, but I still wonder if it wasn't kidney or feminine part related (ovaries, fallopian tubes, I dunno). It's 90% gone now, but I still get it sometimes. I was dx with IBS, but I think that's BS because... -
Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link A Vojdani, I Tarash - Food and Nutrition, 2013 a few articles that talk about immune or body reactions to corn in celiacs. I've read at least 1 more but I can't find it again. If being gluten free isn't enough for you, then you should really look at other foods, including...

ARCHIVED Could You Help Me Interpret My Results?
cavernio replied to langone7's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Last time I went to the walk-in clinic to get the results they acted like I was an idiot for going there for the results. I have biopsy results. One of the 2 GI's I saw should have them. thanks, didn't know what all the abbrev. stood for. -
ARCHIVED Could You Help Me Interpret My Results?
cavernio replied to langone7's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I got a copy of all the files my doctor had on him, but the blood tests weren't in them. It was probably because when I got tested he wasn't my doctor and it was just one I saw in a walk-in clinic. And it was a pain in the ass to get the copies too. They aren't allowed to just give you your files though, they have to give you copies. You wouldn't believe... -
ARCHIVED Articles Explaining Why Many Of Us Cross-React With Grains And Soya...thoughts?
cavernio replied to Hala's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm nitpicking. The first article you linked didn't say non GMO soy is bad. I have not removed soy from my diet, but I'm not 100% better and is one of the things I have been considering totally wiping out. I know that a lot of people on the forums do have issues with soy, but with my lack of reaction and that I havent found any scientific literature showing... -
ARCHIVED How Long Does Gluten Stay In You Body? I.e How Long Do The Symptoms Last?
cavernio replied to modarem's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Imagine you're sick with a virus, and no matter how hard your body works at killing the virus, it's always there. There's a constant fight, it never goes away, and there's a losing battle. Then, suddenly, the virus just disappears. It's gone. For a few weeks, a few months, and suddenly, this very same virus has infected you again. Your immune system has had... -
ARCHIVED Is Celiac Always Doing Damage Even Before The "trigger?"
cavernio replied to jessthirtytwo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Dunno. It's very clear that in some people damage can occur without symptoms, a known phenomenon called silent celiac. At the same time I've heard that celiac disease can strike at any time, that you don't need to have that same reaction from birth. It's possible you've been a celiac with damage for many many years, or at the same time you started noticing... -
That sounds very serious to me. I'm not a doctor so I don't know all the possibilities, but Raynaud's is the only thing I've personally heard of that could describe what you're experiencing. And while I can undestand why any doctor would not think you have that specific condition, since itself it is fairly rare, it's downright stupid to not test for the rare...
-
Well there's a plethora of tests that can be done which all, of course, have the possibility of being false, just like any medical test I suppose. The current standard for a celiac test is a biopsy of the small intestine, not just blood tests, and you still haven't specifically said you've had that, so definitely consider asking for that test. And false negatives...

ARCHIVED Could You Help Me Interpret My Results?
cavernio replied to langone7's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry to ask about this in your thread iangone, but I've been very confused about all this myself. I never got my blood tests back myself (of course I didn't, I'm canadian, they keep you in the dark as much as they possibly can), however what they tested was positive. When I prodded the GI who did the biopsy about my IgA and if IgA specifically meant gluten... -
ARCHIVED Silk Almond Milk
cavernio replied to jebby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes please at least give us where you got the info about almond breeze being milled through milk. That's what I drink and use for a milk substitute. I think I have it every day. I'm not saying this because I automatically think it's safe, I honestly want to know where/how you heard that for my own safety. -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Weight Gain
cavernio replied to texastricia's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
"Since I've gained so much weight while on a restricted diet, I often cheat on gluten-free. I mean, if I'm going to gain weight anyway I might as well have the foods I want, right?" Wrong. Well wait, are you a diagnosed celiac or have gluten intolerance? Because your look on the outside is really the least of your worries if you are a celiac. I guess if... -
ARCHIVED Losing Weight After 6 Months Of Being gluten-free
cavernio replied to glutenfreecupcake's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Have you actually counter the calories you're eating? Many vegetables are extremely low in calories, so you could, say, eat a giant salad but still only get 200, 250 calories. Have you had your blood sugars measured at all? Weight loss despite eating a ton is a symptom of diabetes. -
I had a colonoscopy the same visit as my endoscopy because I had near constant pain on my left side where my bowel is. It came back completely clear EXCEPT for a few nodules at the very start of my colon. The gastroenterologist said that it could be a sign that my small intestines were damaged all the way through (since endoscopies only see the first part...

ARCHIVED Dairy Free Questions...
cavernio replied to Christine0125's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think I've just figured out that I need to be trace-dairy free too, as most of the foods I've been eating that I seem to not feel well after don't guarantee dairy free status. Of course, chips and chocolate might just not be making me feel well anyways... -
My home is gluten free. Well, over holidays people had some beer. I don't think I could survive any other way. I don't trust restaurants. If I eat out it's always going to be a risk. That my only discernable reaction has come from nuts that should have not come into contact with anything glutinous, but weren't called gluten free, just makes me more concerned...
