  1. I completely agree that if you eat out, aren't extremely careful with what you eat, then that's a choice the person makes. And I know I try to read the latest research about celiac disease, but I also have a university degree and still consider myself smart (even if I can't always follow a movie plot) and know what to look for and can understand most of the...
  2. It is possible to ingest gluten without any side effects. Each person is unique in what their symptoms are. I have yet to experience running to the bathroom as a symptom of gluten ingestion, diarrhea or vomitting or even really bad cramping or pain. Being gluten free for such a short period of time, you aren't likely to experience any sort of severe reaction...
  3. " If I can heal this well and live a normal life and show up for work everyday, most people should be able to do so too." You realize that you're making rather baseless presumptions that everyone's like you, right? Those same assumptions that make our friends, family, co-workers, etc, think we were/are just 'being lazy' when we're actually sick? I...
  4. I'm with Notme. I haven't even tried looking for work in over 2 years. Before being dx'd I started and quit probably a dozen jobs because one day I'd wake up and just couldn't hack it, and calling in sick doesn't really do it because I wasn't 'getting sick', I rarely felt good. And when I did it'd last for a couple hours, max, so I'd just quit the job. Doesn...
  5. -You could have a whey allergy or intolerance. You can buy whey by itself in the health section. It's used for body building. Harder cheeses have more of it I believe. -The different culture thing makes sense too. Do you react to medium or hard cheeses when they're melted? I'm not sure the cultures would live through heat, granted really high heat for a...
  6. Bt corn kills corn borers by interacting with a bacteria in the gut of the corn borer which then kills it. If that bacteria isn't present the corn borer doesn't die, but that bacteria is pretty much always present in them. If you include rates of 'new' diseases like IBS, depression, anxiety, Crohn's, fibromyalgia and CFS (the last 2 have research that...
  7. My last eye exam my eyes also improved, not a lot but a little. I thought it was just a curiosity really, but now I'm hoping in a years time they'll have improved more!
  8. Google scholar. You could spend an eternity finding research papers about celiac disease on there, and you always have access to abstracts even if you don't have access to the full article, and that's all you really need because they tell you the imporant part of what they've found anyways.
  9. If you have a dry mouth your food won't have as much taste, and dry mouth can be caused by vitamin deficiencies in a few of the B's and A. Vitamins take a long time to build back up if you're low, especially if you have damaged intestines. Also, I could only find a local gluten-free buckwheat flour, everything else had cc.
  10. Have you tried eliminating candy, or other sources of artificial color and flavour? I don't do well with skittles or nestle kwik, but I did alright with organic candy canes. Does psyllium fibre help at all? It's possible you have SIBO or a parasite or crohn's or probably a million other isses. I'd consult a doctor, sugar free or not.
  11. I have never heard the difference between casein and whey being liquid and solid. However, whey and casein are separate things but both are proteins in milkd. I've read articles that seem to be calling whey casein and vice versa. The wikipedia article on lactose intolerance says that lactose is water soluble but not fat soluble, so it's not found in high...
  12. Doesn't IgA need gluten to react to your own body, dh or villous damage or neuronal damge? I'm under the impression that IgA in the skin wouldn't do anything negative unless it reacted with/got reacted by gluten.
  13. Very glad to hear you stopped the oat bread. I'd check for oat cc too (not just in your house but all your gluten-free products) since she isn't getting better. -Make sure you have a talk to her about who she might be kissing or otherwise making out with too, don't want her kissing her bf after he eats his sandwich or ingesting flavored lube. Along the...
  14. 8 months gluten-free still waiting for my depression and fatigue to go away. People get DH, skin issues from gluten for years after having stopped it, something about your antibodies getting into your skin. Same might go for your brain. Also, neurons seem to heal differently than a lot of other parts of our bodies, often takes longer. And as for it being...
  15. Designerstubble, I'm not vegetarian, but I think that healthy people who are vegetarian/vegan are doing the right thing. But the more restricted diet becomes, the more worried I would be about restricting my diet so much. If you're considering trying meats, but the thought of eating fish disgusts you for ethical reasons, you could try things that are well...
  16. Did you tell them that celiac disease IS an auto-immune disease?
  17. " I have Sjogren's Syndrome and I have problems with my eyes from time to time because they are dry and I have allergies which directly affect my eyes" Sorry for double post but this is a completely different topic, but I feel like I should say that you should make sure you're getting enough vitamin A. If you delve a little into vitamin A deficieny-related...
  18. " "DH is very erratic. Since the skin may not be rid of IgA deposits for more than 2 years after starting a gluten-free diet, flare- ups occur without obvious gluten ingestion. It may take patients a substantial amount of time to erase years of IgA buildup in the skin." " Sorry haven't read this thread in awhile and I see there's new responses,...
  19. "Thanks. It is nice to know why I have kept reacting to packaged gluten free foods. One thing that is bothering me is that I run a low grade fever while glutened and he really didn't know anything about that which concerns me. Do you know anything about that?" Nothing offcially diagnosed or any articles to draw from, but I used to feel my body temperature...
  20. }:-( I hate that oats are in everything. Thanks for the heads up, I just discovered kind bars a couple weeks ago (rather, I finally caved into their high price because I found I couldn't eat the nuts had been eating.) My vitamin E is from non GMO soy, and it's just a regular Jamieson vitamin, labelled gluten free of course.
  21. Sounds like that could be DH. You may not be able to do anything about it, but I'd go through a mental list of possible gluten sources you might still be getting. Noticeable reactions to gluten will likely get worse the longer you're gluten free. I got a rash on the back of my neck, head and ears from what I can only guess would be CC, despite having never...
  22. I'd never really considered a noisy stomach to be indicative of any stomach problems, they just make noises sometimes, but then again I'd been undiagnosed for quite awhile. Regardless, the process of digesting food is going to be noisy. Maybe the differences you notice have something to do with how much water or liquid you've had, if you swallowed a lot of...
  23. Sorry bartfull, I too get called a he when I'm a she. Cavernio's just Veronica and was a dumb name from school days that no one actually called me. Comes from having your name on things where letters can be rearranged. But I like it because it's pretty unique, no adding random numbers for me.
  24. Not a stupid thing doctors say, but maybe? I'm really bothered by it and I just need to vent anyways. So I had my second biopsy yesterday and I was drugged up and this is what I remember. Vomitting fluid a bit (I drank water after I washed my hands a few hours before procedure, I shouldn't have but it was automatic and I hadn't even realized I had done...
  25. Nose is lined with mucous membrane, makes sense to me that it could be celiac connected. I have issues with mouth sores. I think a lot of my issues are from vitamin deficiencies, but I also had what I think was a gluten reaction and my mouth was immediately burny, like I had small sores over it and then decided to swish lemon juice around, when I ate the...
