  1. Tostitos don't agree with me, like other corn chips. I'm off refined corn products for now.
  2. If you are only gluten sensitive and not celiac, anti-inflammatories might not even work for you anyways. Be thankful your period problems are only 1 day a month. And 2 months isn't even enough to be called a pattern really. Another 2 months and you might be a lot better, just wait and see.
  3. Trying to find a dietary remedy for something that may not be dietary seems dumb. As woodnewt says, there are a lot of medical conditions that cause muscle wasting. It's nigh impossible to not get enough protein in one's diet. The only way I could see it being an issue is if he ONLY ate fruits and veggies and rice/other low protein grains. I mean, if he...
  4. B12 is the only nutrient I know of that you have to supplement if you don't eat meat. (Well, provided you eat a good balance of other foods...not that I know what that good balance is.) And in fairly large quantities. Little to no worry that you'd be not eating enough protein. Personally, I wouldn't go meatless until I'd be relatively celiac-symptom free...
  5. I have some sort of presumably nerve pain in my hands and feet that are worse when I eat gluten. However, I wouldn't call them a glutened symptom for me, because I wouldn't feel it right away.
  6. So this is just me wondering about all the things I've read, not anything official or anything like that. It's in regards to zonulin. Open Original Shared Link In a nutshell, this doctor, over the past 10 years, (and I've read at least one of his published journal articles, so he's outwardly practicing proper science), has discovered that in celiacs...
  7. Get the bloodwork done, but make sure you have your appointment booked so you know when it is. ASAIK, there's no blood test for IBS, seeing as they don't even know what causes IBS, but there is definitely bloodtests for celiac disease. Plus she's telling you to go back on gluten, which would be necessary for positive bloodwork for celiac disease. Does...
  8. Oh there's downsides to the healthcare wanting to keep costs down though. Like the lab not doing all the tests the doctor orders for you because someone there 'feels it's unnecessary', or the fact that I haven't had a proper history taken, well, ever.
  9. Yes, I still want the endoscopy to rule out other things. (Before thinking of/considering celiac, I thought I might have a parasite(s), and when I took herbal Paragone pills, I saw white pieces in my poo that weren't there before.) So often internal problems go undiagnosed (in general, not just celiac or gastroentestinal), so the chance to have a camera inside...
  10. I was told by my GI that 4-6 weeks was all that was necessary which was why I was upset when after 6 weeks I hadn't heard anything. But yeah, reading some posts here just recently made me realize that, oh, he was just waiting 3 months like many people here have had to wait.
  11. heh, my bf just said "the 'I think that doctors are jerks reason' is a good reason for you to eat the gluten", because I constantly b%$@# about doctors. I hadn't considered that I might get subpar medical care FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE if the biopsy comes back negative. And I DO want the biopsy anyways, gluten-free or gluten-eating because I want to track...
  12. I just dunno how much I trust a biopsy in comparison to the bloodwork. If my biospy comes back negative, I'm still going to be gluten-free because I've realized I have improvement being gluten-free (although I wasn't sure of that earlier when I said I wanted one). I'm Canadian so I don't have to worry about health insurance not covering me or something....
  13. An elimination diet is when you avoid certain foods for a period of time (a couple of weeks maybe?) and then reintroduce them. You know you have a problem with that food if you notice it get better when you're off, and then get worse again when you're back on it. Other alternatives include only eating something you're certain you're alright with (rice or...
  14. So, I FINALLY got an appointment for an endoscopy and biopsy and colonoscopy, just today; 2 weeks AFTER I've given up on eating gluten because I had been eating it for 6 weeks and I had yet to have an appointment scheduled. I stopped eating gluten because even though I thought I hadn't noticed much difference on vs off gluten, I did notice when I went back...
  15. You could still be gluten sensitive, however, I would expect in that case you'd have a fairly noticeable difference when stopping gluten. Maybe I'm wrong about that though. Rashes can be due to many, many things, and even if it's the gluten dermatitis thing, I think it's still a histamine reaction, which doesn't involve the same category of antibodies...
  16. Because our digestive systems are proven damaged and most nutrients come from our food. Besides which, many doctors approach supplementation in much the same way, in that they won't actually test you and instead 'try things out'. If I could measure my nutrients daily I would, but I can't. I can't get them measured monthly either. If I feel bad and I cajole...
  17. The connection between autism and celiac disease could easily be a genetic linkage, which means that they might not have anything to do with each other at all. In other words the genes that are necessary for celiac disease may be physically close to the genes that are necessary for autism to develop. Note that being physically close together doesn't mean...
  18. I was gluten-free for almost 3 months and I didn't notice much change. Well, I did have a couple screw ups, or likely screw ups, and I think I should have laid off dairy, not just lactose. Since going back to gluten for biopsy, I notice now that I am more bloated and peripheral nerves feel so bad they hurt sometimes again. Unfortunately, my energy and ability...
  19. hahahahahaaa, I'm gonna start using that with my bf when we talk about people and how annoying/dumb they can be
  20. I plan on fasting once I get my biopsy done. I fasted for 4 days a month or so before dx with celiac out of desperation. Didn't help, but I broke it out of habit of snacking at night while watching tv, not from hunger. I read a ton of stuff about fasting before doing it. Now that I know I'm a celiac, I think fasting might be even more helpful than I thought...
  21. I was just wondering this, how picky I should be with food manufactured where wheat is. My thing is that I don't have any sort of immediate symptoms of eating gluten (that I can tell at least), but I still know that I will be getting damaged. I almost wish I had an immediate reaction to it so that I would know for sure what products and restaurants to avoid...
  22. I go into the walk-in clinic (Canadian and had no family doc) complaining about pain and tingling in my hands and feet. I was sent for orthotics, nothing else.
  23. There's info online that says instant coffee has flour in it. Maybe it was wrong. Maybe a brand of instant coffee did/does that. Regardless though, there's clearly some sort of processing done to instant coffee, and that puts up alarm bells to anyone trying to be gluten free. If I owned a company, I'd label all my products as gluten free if they were.
  24. If you'd pay closer attention to the article, you'd find that Dr. whatshisface neurologist is only name-dropped. It's clear that he is not the person responsible for the research that Moose is concerned about. Of course, neither is there a link to that research or even the person who conducted it which is a shame. But that doesn't prove it's a sham either...
  25. You can't expect the inlaws to understand if you don't tell them. You know it, I know it, but they don't. Keep in mind that for some people gluten can cause emotional problems, maybe you're not as weak as you think you are. :-) Try reminding yourself that your health is what's at stake. You wouldn't let yourself die for social niceties, right? Well, don...
