  1. Thank you!
  2. Hi, Beware of the flavorings you can choose! I got hit from orthodontic molds a little while ago and found out that wheat was hiding in the flavorings they added to the mold (if you choose a flavor, that is). Of course, every facility is different. Laura
  3. Hi everyone, I have decided to write a paper on Celiac to give to all of the doctors who fought me, said no and prolonged the time I spent sick. I know this is not unusual; we are often left to our own devices which coincidentally seems to bring us good health much quicker than when we looked to the doctors to solve our problems. Therefore, I am wondering...
  4. Yes, I'm by no means an expert on this.. but Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID) can cause villi damage (and other kinds of immunodeficiencies can as well, if I recall correctly). Here's two links: Open Original Shared Link ; Open Original Shared Link ... Getting your antibody levels tested would be a good start, I think. There are subclasses to IGG...
  5. Have you looked into immunodeficiencies? Hugs, Laura
  6. Have any of you tried Renew Life's Ultimate Flora probiotic? Any problems? Thanks!
  7. I was around 5'4" 1/2 when I stopped at 15. I am now 5'6" (6 months gluten-free). The giant uncle is my father's brother.... but my mother's mother was 6' also. I'm not sure about my father, but I think my brother should have been taller (he is barely 6'). I am slowly convincing him to go gluten-free
  8. Still growing!! What is this?!
  9. Squriming!! That's fantastic!!! So happy for you!
  10. Doubt that cannot be satiated by an innate sense of well-being (aka: improvement off of gluten) usually punctures through things that are "accredited" (a formal diagnosis) as well. (Lots of IMO'ing here...) The tests are not 100% specific or sensitive *yet*. Even if they are 99.9% accurate (not saying they are!), doubt still is able to seep through the...
  11. Yes! Like I said, I did *not* expect to grow after going gluten-free. In fact, I never would have thought of myself as being "malnourished." It just goes to show you that a) it is a spectrum (malnourishment) and b ) people have an uncanny ability to adjust to various "normals" even though what they might be experiencing may not in fact be normal!
  12. This is wonderful, IH! Everyone could benefit from a reminder – extending beyond just gluten and Celiac. Thank you for sharing!
  13. The uncle that is 6'7" originally wanted to become a pilot in the navy – he couldn't fit in the cockpit! - couldn't make it through the door! I was a gymnast so the shorter stature worked to my advantage there, but we always wondered why I was so much shorter. Now that I think about it, I stopped growing right around the time that I began having m...
  14. Funny thing is: the rest of my family is tall – Dad is 6'4", Mom is 5'9", brother is 6'0-6'1" and my uncle (the resident giant) is 6'7"...it goes on... but, I have witnessed them all bump their heads numerous times on this stupid chandelier! Guess I've been initiated into the club...
  15. Yes – I am under 21.
  16. I've been gluten-free for about 5 months now
  17. It may have something to do with our current testing procedures
  18. I kept the digestive enzymes in their original container and in a plastic baggy inside my purse. Went through security with NO problems! Thanks everyone!!
  19. I use Taste of the Wild for my dogs (there is a cat variety). It says it is grain-free
  20. I'm drooling. This tends to happen with my blender when I don't add enough liquid.. but have you tried letting the strawberries thaw slightly before blending them?

    ARCHIVED Coping with DH

Inflammation is verrryyy common in Celiac and other autoimmune diseases. Most advise a three month trial of gluten-free and then a gluten challenge if you want to go the elimination diet route. Otherwise, as Squirmingitch pointed out, you must be consuming the equivalent of 4 slices of bread a day for 3 months before the skin biopsy... but there is a pretty...

    ARCHIVED Coping with DH

Hi Ctrain – This rash is very new for me and it seems to vary a little bit every time it shows up (I'm getting more "blisters" now). How was your rash after you stopped the oral steroids? Some people say that antihistamines help *a little* and others say it makes no difference (from what I've read anyhow). Antihistamines specifically target the I...
  23. I know it is scary, but it may help to remember that 30% of the population carries DQ2 but never develops Celiac disease. They've got the predisposition but still never get Celiac. Just because you've got a higher "risk* for these other issues, doesn't mean you will get them! Knowledge is power. Try not to worry about what everyone else thinks - you...
  24. I'm glad to hear it's better. I think I went slightly insane with the itchiness... and my experience was fairly tame! One thing that I cannot believe is how sensitive it is - amazing. Is yours that way? Have you tried doing the gene test? Also: have any of your noticed that your DH is aggravated (slightly) by chlorine (like in swimming pools)?
