  1. Kinnikinnick success story! i found their sandwich bread at this one store in town. i'd been hauling pizza crusts home from an hour and a half away because i couldn't find them anywhere else. so i asked them if they would start to carry the pizza crusts. well, ladies and gentlemen, no more than 3 months later, we have pizza crusts, 3 flavors of donuts, white...
  2. thanks for posting about this! i had thought about ordering them but had never laid eyes on them so i wasn't sure. it's really good to know i'll be able to eat Thai!! Gina, is that your cat in your avatar? i laugh out loud every time i see it! i bought reindeer antlers for my cat the other day and you've never seen such misery. it's hilarious!

    ARCHIVED Sushi

i've been craving sushi lately. what are the questions to ask? and what do i look out for? i know to be careful with soy sauce (and i have my own wheat-free) and i've heard imitation crab meat is sketchy. are there other things to be wary of? and are there any chains that do a gluten-free sushi menu? thanks!
  4. also on my right elbow.
  5. hi, Mike -- i'm sorry to be getting back here so late -- for some reason i never saw new posts on this thread over the last few days. now you probably know more than i do about the reimbursement stuff, but just in case here is what Mr. Horesh told me: reimbursement up to $300 for travel (plane, gas, taxi), up to $100 for hotel stays, keeping all receipts...
  6. the turkey chili has oatmeal. what the crap?! i was upset when i read that in the ingredients. we always made our chili dogs with it.
  7. bless your sweet heart! thank you for understanding. i can't wait to try these out. i've been disappointed with every biscuit i've had thus far, be it from scratch or mix. it's on now!
  8. well, the way my mom put it (and bear in mind this is highly scientific talk), "most of the villi were standing up, waving proud and tall, but every now and then there would be some rounded ones". apparently the damage was not enough to call the biopsy conclusive, but to my mind with the family history there's really no reason to be checking out bacteria...
  9. hi, guys -- i'm sure this has been covered before but i've been super busy lately and haven't had time to search on it. my dad went to get tested for celiac disease because both his daughters have been diagnosed with it. his doc told him to go gluten-free and scheduled the biopsy for a week or two later, i can't remember. while on the diet, Dad notes his...
  10. ok, i'm hoping someone can help me out here. i went to the dermatologist for some bumps on my calves. it started maybe back in feb. with one bump on my left calf, just raised and reddish and slightly wart-looking. it itched in the beginning but not for long, and none of them itch now. so a couple months later i started to feel like crap (celiac disease...
  11. thanks, guys! i had heard that Quaker wouldn't guarantee anything, but i didn't check it out with regard to grits. good to know they are ok. what is the difference with stone ground? i'm curious.
  12. well, i'm out of the study. it turns out that reimbursement would not be in full for me, so that doesn't work for me right now. maybe someone else will keep up posted.
  13. i'm so excited about the way this Thanksgiving turned out!! my sister is newly diagnosed and my dad is waiting on bloodtest results so three out of the four of us were gluten-free and then my mom's family came over and her sister actually modified what she makes so that we could eat it. i was really dreading this holiday when i got diagnosed in August...
  14. hi, all! my family was sitting around discussing gluten-free breakfast items and my sister and dad had been eating Quaker grits. when i expressed serious reservations about Quaker, they asked for safe alternatives. anyone know of any? thanks!!
  15. maybe it could be lactose-related? does she partake of milk products? just a thought. glad to know the other symptoms are better!
  16. any idea why i can't open the file? i get an error message when i try to open the file. is my adobe outdated or something? not really sure. my friend downloaded it and put it in a word file for me, but it's kind of hard to read because of the formatting. thanks!
  17. ok, so this is probably way unrelated, but... i have a lot of bumps on my calves. it started back in march, maybe -- the first bump itched but stopped, then several others appeared (not itchy) and it has now spread to my other calf. it doesn't look rashy other than that it has spread.. the dermatologist did not know what it was, so she did a biopsy last week...
  18. that's exactly why i'm participating in the study. will i take the pill if it is effective and becomes available? i don't know yet. but i think that it is worth a shot to figure out if it works -- and they need people for that. what if it were really wonderful? we'll only know if they try it out. now, if i can just get the @#$@^%@ people from Parexel...
  19. ok, so i have an appointment and now i have a letter... but still no info on exactly what the study encompasses. these people are elusive! still trying to decide if i'm really going to do this... i hadn't realized it could be a long time before reimbursement, but i have to hurry up if i'm going to get a flight! Turtle and i have been in contact, but if anyone...
  20. hahaha that was hilarious! Andi, thank you for writing this post, because it made me think. i, too, am normally a glass half full person as well. i think it is fabulous that you have been dealing with this for such a short time and have such a marvelous attitude. i still really object to the term "whining". i don't really think i've seen that happening...
  21. i'm in! i just got off the phone with Parexel and i have an appointment in Baltimore Dec. 3. is anyone else still pursuing this? i'm a little nervous now, mostly about the $... i know they will compensate but if the compensation is not like immediate, i'm going to have problems! but i hope that it all works out. i'll continue to keep you guys posted, if you...
  22. hi, all! hope everyone is doing well. i have another alcohol question and i'm hoping someone can help me out. the nice man at the liquor store just gave me a free miniature of Kleiner Feigling Vodka "with natural fig flavor added". i am hoping i can drink it and see what it tastes like. can't say i've ever had a fig drink before! the website, though...
  23. ok, don't hate me but i tried these biscuits from 123 and they are not at all like what i remember. the texture was way off and they were sweet... do you think there's something i could do to them to make them more to my liking? would using buttermilk cut down on the sweetness? thanks!
  24. wow... Jnkmnky i think you are totally onto something. is this something y'all would be willing to do?? when i first found out i had celiac disease i wanted to get the word out so that other people could get answers to their problems; i could think of several people that should definitely be tested. but along the way i got self-absorbed and quit worrying...
  25. my support group leader actually talked about this last night! she said progresso cream of mushroom and then she uses potato sticks on top. she didn't mention a brand, though.
