  1. hello, all! just in case anyone is still interested, i'm pursuing getting involved with the study, and after a couple of emails and whatnot, this is what i found out from Alba: "For information regarding the clinical trial that will be starting in Dec. please contact Parexel at 1-800-296-0052. Parexel will be handling all recruitment for this trial. To...
  2. i use Flonase, and haven't noticed anything in the way of symptoms. i called GlaxoSmithKline and they wouldn't guarantee anything since the raw materials come from a variety of manufacturers, but "to their knowledge it doesn't contain gluten".
  3. perhaps they'll keep track of other symptoms that occur. this is all so interesting! dang i wish i could participate! i will have been gluten-free for 6 mos by the time of the study... i say aug bc that is when i got the diagnosis but i was on the diet before all that... hmmm
  4. i use country life -- says on the bottle "NO: yeast, wheat, soy, gluten, milk, salt, sugar, starch, preservatives or artificial color." it also has folic acid in it, and it tastes like cherry!
  5. i think the bloating does take a while to get rid of, also i just simultaneously cut down on dairy and started drinking and taking Lactaid. there is another thread on casein intolerance vs. lactose intolerance that might be interesting to you. best of luck! i know how it feels to look pregant and it is not fun!
  6. i talked to a Lactaid rep and she could not find the info on Lactaid Ultra but said Fast Act was gluten-free. can y'all post the name of the offending Lactaid? i've been taking both Ultra and Fasta Act lately and haven't noticed anything in the way of symptoms. and back to the casein/lactose question: i was feeling pretty crappy there for a while a few...
  7. thank you all for your responses! i had no idea that the whole recessive/dominant gene thing was not in operation with celiac. i'll definitely pass on the information. i had not realized how very lucky i am that my family has been so supportive. my sister actually got her biopsy report back yesterday and her villi were super damaged. i think she's kind...
  8. ok, so here's the deal. i was diagnosed this August, so my sister got tested and she's been diagnosed about a month. my dad just went to the dr. to get tested and he told my parents they probably both had the recessive gene for Celiac, which is why both their daughters developed it. oddly enough, the doc wasn't interested in doing bloodwork -- just went straight...
  9. lizzy, do you know if on those lists you downloaded the whole cross contamination issue is taken into account? i have thought about getting them but held off for a little bit to save some money. thanks!
  10. i'd totally be up for meeting sometime!! i couldn't do it at this point in time, mostly because i live in FL and am way short on funds right now. but i'd love to meet up with anyone in the spring!
  11. i resent the "whiner" name calling on here, and in fact, reading back over the posts in this thread, i see no whining. i see people who are grieving. i'm still grieving too. "whining" is a very negative label and if we can't come here and say what we feel bad about, where can we? and just remember, there are so many facets to this disease, and everyone's...
  12. i just went to our county fair a couple of weeks ago. it was so much fun! i didn't cry over not being able to eat a funnel cake, like i'd thought i might... but i sure do wish i'd been able to try a fried twinkie. they also had fried oreos. i'd never heard of either. they should probably call them "Cholesterol: $3", but they sure smelled good!!
  13. i thought i had moved into acceptance but am now undeniably back into anger. you are right, way too many things contain natural or artificial flavors. labels suck. i do have one bright thought: Envirokidz Koala Crisp cereal. it tastes great to me, doesn't even have that weird whang to it that i've found in some other rice cereals. good luck...
  14. i have celiac disease... and prior to diagnosis my symptoms were kind of inconsistent. my most attention-grabbing symptom was the big D... and it was not everyday. so i actually thought i was getting better there for a little bit but then it would come back eventually. then my dr. ordered the blood test and my Ttg count was high -- 72. so yes, i think that...
  15. this might be a dumb question -- but can you also make the mix with a mixer (i.e. without the bread machine)? i don't have a bread machine; actually, i don't have the mixer yet either, but i'm hoping Santa will be good to me this year! i need fresh bread.
  16. ok, so my gastro wants to follow up my diagnosis (which happened in August) with a capsule endoscopy. in his words, it's to establish a baseline of images of what my small intestine looks like in order to be able to track any changes that might occur in the future. (i.e. it is not for the purpose of diagnosis -- been there, done that.) the problem comes...
  17. reading this thread has done me so much good just now!! i don't want any of us to have to go through emotional difficulties in addition to the physical ones with this crazy disease, but it's definitely reassuring to me to hear them voiced. i've been gluten-free for about 2 1/2 months and i am getting spacier and spacier... i'm pretty sure no gluten is...

  19. i, too, am having occasional "glutened"-like symptoms after being strictly gluten-free for a couple months. most people i've talked to have told me it takes the body a while to heal, and that that is not abnormal. plus, my symptoms are not as intense as they were before diagnosis. however, i notice that when i have dairy, it seems to be linked. this makes...
  20. all Bacardi rums are gluten-free. Cruzan rums are ok. malibu rum is gluten-free (yippee!!) and Captain Morgan original spiced rum, silver spiced rum, parrot bay, and private stock are all good. and i just learned today that Crown Royal is fine. score! this info is all from the Open Original Shared Link list. so drink up!
  21. i'm so sorry, Beth!! just remember, you are a princess and you deserve to have the very best wedding day! your friends sound kind of suspect to me. i hope that you are feeling well and don't have any more gluten problems. i'll be thinking about you! Laurel.
  22. Claire, thank you for posting this! my doc wants to do this but it is stuck right now in insurance verification crap, etc. at least now i know more! thank you!
  23. i had my endoscopy done in late june and all i remember is waking up and feeling very affectionate towards the nurses. and then i had a coke. mmmm... i was scared beforehand, too, but it was painless, and nothing hurt afterward.
  24. i had some symptoms this morning and the only questionable thing i can think of is the homemade corn tortillas i ate. i used Maseca masa harina and water to make them. there's no questionable ingredient, but maybe an issue of cross contamination? i'm not sure, so i thought i'd throw this out there and see if anyone has any experience with it. i can't seem...
  25. Connielynn38, sounds like you've got it rough!! i'm so sorry to hear about your lack of support. good for you for all your efforts, though. thank goodness for this forum, right?!
